I’ve just had a nose job in Turkey - AMA

Maybe no one will have anything to ask me 😂. But I’m flying back tomorrow having had a rhinoplasty in Turkey on Tuesday last week. I didn’t tell many people I was doing this, and anyone I did tell was absolutely horrified and said I was mad to do it. I wasn’t even sure right up until the last minute that I was going to come, I was very close to chickening out.

But it’s done, healing nicely and I’m so glad I did it. AMA.

Surely routine travel insurance wouldn’t have covered you if there had been complications of surgery and you needed repatriation?

What are you doing about time off work?

I’m a dog walker and I’m taking the rest of the week off when I’m back, but I’ve been walking around a lot here so I probably would have been ok. Gentle walking is meant to be good for the swelling so I’ll go back to work the following week. And the dogs don’t care what I look like 😂.

GOOD FOR YOU!

Did you watch the Olivia Atwood show first? It was ey opening and I’m glad you are recovering well. Was it scary being alone?

No, I didn’t and by the sounds of it probably lucky I didn’t (haven’t heard about it). It is mad the scale of the numbers of people they have coming here for surgery, it’s certainly a well oiled machine. I’m not alone, my friend came with me.

Did they do anything else while you were under?! You look years younger in the after photo.

Possibly not, I didn’t read the small print there! I was so sure I was going to bail on it until the last moment. I guess if I’d snuffed it either my parents would have paid to get me flown home or they’d have chucked me in a bin here. I’m in a group chat with lots of others who have been to the same surgeon and none of them died so I felt my odds were good.

No that was all! I don’t think I’ll be back for anything else either. I’m the oldest by far out of the other rhinoplasty patients I’ve either met here or been talking too, they all seem to be in their twenties. I wish I’d done it while I was still young but having said that I’d still have broken my nose last year so that would have been annoying!

Your old nose was lovely and your new nose is very cute! I hope you are delighted with it.

Im glad it’s gone well, would you get anything else done now you’ve done that?

Very happy! I will post my before and after photo. Swollen as hell still at the moment but I can see it’s going to look so much better and my breathing is already better than before the surgery, even with the swelling.

Your old version was nice and the new one is ace, well done, I’m glad you’re really happy. It’s a big deal.

I’m fairly certain I won’t. Although DP was suggesting I get my boobs done while I’m here, cheeky sod.

I have an annual policy so I didn’t get specific travel insurance for coming here.

Your travel insurance invalid if you travel for medical treatment

Hope all goes well between now and your return trip...

It is a big deal, I feel very lucky that mentally I haven’t found recovery hard, sleeping has been easy, and I loved the result when my cast came off. I know others I’ve been talking to have found things a lot harder. So although I look like shit with my bruising I feel tip top, and I’ve had more sleep here than I get at home!

Assuming you are deemed fit to fly by the airline and unless you end up with complications the NHS won't treat (which is any non emergency complication)

I have my fit to fly certificate, so I should be fine. No one else I know that’s been here has had a problem getting back or had any complications requiring treatment once home. My breathing is fine, my stitches are healing really well.

Thank you. I’ve always been a bit of a risk taker but even for me this felt quite out there, but when you get here and see the volume of people getting things done it doesn’t seem so wild.

Mine was a septorhinoplasty as I had breathing issues due to a previous break, so mine was more expensive than if it was just a first rhinoplasty. I paid £2890, which included flights, 2 nights in hospital, all meds, then 5 nights at a nice hotel including breakfast, and all transfers. Definitely a lot cheaper than the UK, I’d have paid around £12k for a septorhinoplasty there. My surgeon here is a ENT doctor too, not all of them are.

If it was a first rhinoplasty it would have been £1000 less, so the package would have been £1890, forgot to say that bit!

The certificate doesn't apply if you're visibly unwell

I’m not visibly unwell, unless bruising counts as being unwell?

I agree with these points.

OP your naive or wilful ignorant approach is scary.

You don’t seem to have gone into this with any thought about being in a foreign country where you don’t speak the language having a medical procedure without health insurance.

Many would have no complication but there is no way to know that until after surgery.

You went to safe money and could have had to have paid thousands if anything went wrong.

I’m not even going to start on putting additional burden on the NHS if you come home and there is an issue.

Seziah · 13/09/2026 20:08

Did you fly out for a consultation first before you booked it in or do you meet the surgeon and go through what you want just before having it done?
