Our sofa has died. Where shall we buy a new one from?

Our sofa has died. Absolute pile of crap it was, I couldn’t be more delighted to be getting rid of the bastard. Only 8 years old and a leg has broken, and the upholstery has a massive rip in the seat.

So we need a new one. Hurrah! Any recommendations of where to buy a sofa these days?

Our last one was from Heals: we will not be going back there.

Would £1,500-£2,000 be enough for something genuinely decent and long lasting?

Exactly what I was coming to say. Ours was absolutely shite, the recliner function broke just after the guarantee ended and the leather was all peeling off.

We need a sofa have been going down rabbit holes of looking for what we want. I only recently learnt that some have inner springs, like a bed, some have strapping and others foam and other supports. The feel within the seat if quite different depending on the type.

There are multiple articles that fire safety regs in the UK mean they have to have fire retardant chemicals, many of which are forever chemicals. Not something I want to be sitting on daily or even have in my home. No advice re where to buy from, because I'm still on the search.

Ours are from Harvey’s not sure if they’re still going cos our local one isn’t there now. Had them 10 years and look
good as new

Worth taking at look if you’ve got a Next Clearance shop near you. We bought a good one at 70% off, but had to act quickly when we saw it as turnover is quick. Find out when they get new stock in, take your room measurements along & also ask if they have a local delivery person who can shift it for you, it’ll need to be done that day or possibly the next. We’ve had decent ones from DFS. We’ve had decent ones from Next and M&S, although I don’t know that M&S are still doing them. A friend has one from Sofa Workshop, but not my style.

We have one from Darlings of Chelsea. Their range of styles, fabrics, leather and colours is extensive, but they are more expensive.

I had one from IKEA that lasted almost 15 years, with two sets of removable cotton covers in off white and mushroom. Was fantastic. All covers washed at 40* and saw us through from baby sick to teenage parties. Only updated as it was too big/changing the covers was difficult for me/too big once kids left home.

My pair of Harvey’s sofas were £60 from eBay in 2006 and I love them. A bit scratched by the cats, inexpensive enough not to be precious about pets, teenagers, and now grandchildren! Always covered either multiple throws but I love the textured fabric, a bit like chenille but flat pile, they’re the exact colour I’d choose if I were to buy new (which I never will, because I don’t want furniture too precious to live with)!

We got ours from James and Rose - was a massive splurge for us and the most money we’ve ever spent on furniture (rest of the house is Facebook marketplace or ikea!) but it looks pretty much exactly the same 5 years later and we are rough on it.

Ours is from Darlings of Chelsea and they last very well, had one before which survived 2 kids and multiple pets (leather) but need to get in the sales and they are a bit over that for leather.

Also, their delivery and customer services are crap when delivery goes wrong. I have heard they are owned/linked to DFS so maybe look in to that too!

Tetrad sofas are really good - very well made. Various retailers sell them - but they have an outlet shop in Preston. They have a facebook page - Tetrad Factory Outlet that you can buy through. I have bought 3 sofas and 3 chairs - they have a delivery man you can contact.

We bought new sofas this year. After trying multiple shops and sitting on approximately 3,764 sofas, we bought from Next. There was a problem with delivery and their customer service was superb. Now that our sofas are here, they are incredibly comfortable and feel well made.

Alston's. I've got one that's still going after 15 years .

Ours are from Next. Had them around 3 years so far and still look and feel good.

Go to a local independent, tend to be much more interesting and well priced. Stokers is good if you are in the north.

Fishpools if you are anywhere south East
