Girls/ Women, how much do you spend on yourself in average per month on beauty treatments, makeup, hair, clothes etc…

Not sure if this makes a difference, but I am from Essex so have been bought up around imagine being quite important and I do love to look good, I was about 16 years old when TOWIE started so I have been bought up with that sort of lifestyle in a way, but I’m not to the extreme. I am still very natural looking, I’ve had 2 children and let myself go a little so I have decided I want to get back to how I used to be as I just feel so down about myself.

So currently I take mounjaro which I plan to only use until January, I no longer get my nails done as I prefer them looking natural now, I only get my hair done 3 times a year, I get Botox twice a year, I get nice makeup but I don’t wear a lot and use it rarely, I buy good hair products and I have just decided to get 1ml of lip filler to make them a bit plumper but this will only be once a year as I don’t like the fake look, I just like to look fresh and new! I don’t get any facials, I don’t spend on expensive face creams, I don’t wear designer, I get a lot of my clothes from vinted, body stuff etc, I don’t tan, I don’t have extensions either, apart from one time I tried them and they went horribly wrong, but working it all out I probably spend approx £200 a month on myself, probably a bit more at the minute because of the mounjaro which is temporary. My husband thinks this is outrageous and always comments on how much I spend, but I do work full time, I earn my own money but he is the main earner and earns very well but thinks I overspend.

The reason I am asking is because I am hoping others can say how much they spend each month on theirselves in hopes I’m not that bad!!! I get I don’t need Botox, don’t need lip filler, don’t need my hair done, but then I would just feel so unhappy in myself, and I enjoy pampering and I like to feel good!

Also not asking for judgement here as I know some people will just be dead against this. So just responses from those actually responding to what I have asked please. Thank you x

Hard to cost it monthly but buy boots protect and perfect sets when I need moisturizer which I use morning and night. Supermarket body moisturiser and shower gels. Slightly posh soap a fiver a month.Haircut about three times a year at 21 pounds and box dye for a fiver every six weeks or so. Make up is minimal and pretty cheap.

Biggest expense is arguably my vitamins and supplements but probably no more than a tenner a month. Don't buy new clothes much now but did when younger. Buy from vinted most months.

I agree with a poster upthread, the difference is when you are going to work or not.
When you go to work, you buy and spend far more on ‘stuff’. Hair, clothes, bags, cosmetics. It is a sort of armour you have. You have look the part.

When you stop you no longer need to so much. You get a bit peeved at how much the hairdresser costs rather than ignoring it. Although if I still lived near the best hairdresser I have ever known I would actually pay more for her haircuts and colour. But she was a one off. And I don’t live near there now.
You use what you have more. And only buy what you need or run out of.

Depends what you do.
When I’m working, I’ll be in a uniform so less need for new/ different clothes. I’ll be in minimal makeup, practical footwear etc. So it’s pretty much the opposite.

TheSmallAssassin · 05/09/2026 10:56

I spend about £600 a year on clothes (surprised to work that out as I didn't think I bought new things very often Blush])

I spend £50 to get my hair cut every 8 weeks. Contact lenses about £55 per month. I use Boots moisturiser and rarely wear make up these days, my skin is pretty good (I'm in my 50s)

TheeNotoriousPIG · 05/09/2026 11:02

I am your age, OP. I will be honest in saying that my appearance is not particularly interesting to me. I will also say that I work on a farm, so what I look like is generally irrelevant! I have friends who have Botox, lash lifts and frequent hair treatments. If it makes them feel better about themselves, it's fine; most of us work in or around farming, so it's nice to feel like a lady sometimes!

My hair has been cut once by a hairdresser in the last four years, for around £30 (it's normally worn up, so I just trim it myself). I'm currently considering splurging on a Japanese conditioning treatment, to tame it, as it's naturally wild and hard work to control. I apply lanolin and scent-free moisturiser (very sensitive skin) that is around £3 for a giant pot that takes months to get through. My SPF 50 (£25) takes forever to get through, too. I buy shampoo and conditioner in 5L containers and soap in batches of 60, so don't spend on those very often! Make-up and nails only get done for special occasions, but I prefer bare nail manicures or French BIAB at a push. Fake tan hasn't touched my skin since I was about 18, for prom. Clothes shopping is infrequent (my employer pays for some of my work clothes), but I do try to buy quality items that will last. I've been through phases of trying to pay more attention to my appearance, but aside from laser hair removal, it never lasts! (I'm currently on a break from that due to long-term antibiotics for rosacea).

If you earn your own money, you're happy, and £200 on beauty treatments isn't having a detrimental impact on your family's lifestyle, then it's fine.

friedaklein · 05/09/2026 11:19

I don't do any of the things you mention except get a haircut. So maybe £20-30 a month? I buy clothes but not frequently and mostly only twice a year in the sales.
I am 100% natural, as it happens.

Crunchymum · 05/09/2026 11:22

It's hard to give a monthly figure as I just replace things when they run out and have never had any regular beauty treatments.

On a regular basis I use soap, shampoo and conditioner (I have psoriasis so use a medicated shampoo and buy the Aussie haircare conditioner when on special), a retinol eye cream (tenner on Amazon), Oil of Olay (£6.50), a firming neck cream (again about a tenner on Amazon) and whatever body cream is on special so it's always under a tenner - I like Nivea Q10 but currently have some Vaseline cocoa body mist that smells like Baileys. It's actually gross but makes my skin nice and soft. In the summer I use spf50 but tend to just use what I get for the kids! I don't use make up and I use vaseline for my lips.

I have never had a fake tan, never had my eyebrows done. In fact barring fake nails once and never again I've never been into any kind of beauty salon (so no facials or botox etc). I have my hair cut when it looks awful and even then I go to one of those walk-in hairdressers and pay £25.

I do use Mounjaro and have done since April 2025 (5st lost and have been maintaining for months now) so that's my one and only real expense. After a lifetime of spending very little on myself its something I now prioritise. I've also spent a fair bit on new clothes - staples in high street shops (M&S / H&M / Primark) and lots of stuff on Vinted.

My one vice is perfume. My fave scents are £100+ but I use sparingly and replace approximately once a year.

I am not one of those "I'm not worthy" type. I have never spent the time and money on beauty products as I've never felt like I wanted or needed to. It's just never interested me. When I was younger I preferred to spend my time and money on gigs / dinner / trips / nights out etc.

Sadly the beauty standards seem to have shifted. When I was younger there was no botox / LED face masks / SM ramming this shit down our throats so I am concerned for my DD. At almost 12 she has more interest in beauty regimes and products then I ever did so I'm trying to be mindful of managing this.

Edited

I am revising this to maybe £40-50 a month for clothes and makeup as I have bought a good coat and boots this year. They will last me years though.

NorthernBelles · 05/09/2026 11:36

I also like to feel good, but not too concerned about whether I 'look good' because who knows or decides what that means? To some people, I probably look really good, but to others I must look awful. I get a hair cut about every six months at around £25, never have it dyed as I don't like how that looks. I wear mascara most days and that costs about £12 every six months. Moisturiser with SPF approx £10 four times per year. Lip balm or occasionally lipstick which costs about £20 - maybe I buy one of those per year?

Occasionally I go for a massage to ease my aching shoulders and that makes me feel really good but doesn't make a difference to my appearance. No botox or injecting stuff into me, I could afford it but don't see the point, it doesn't matter to me if my face has creases or not. I spend on exercise (£200/month on my naice gym membership) and nutritious food (no idea of the cost but I do not scrimp on nutrition) as that all makes me feel wonderful, and is good for my long term health and wellbeing.

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · 05/09/2026 11:39

mounjaro is going to improve your health so an investment in you. Same with any money spent on fitness.
the rest, if you can afford it while saving too - carry on

JoyousWriter · 05/09/2026 11:40

Maybe £2 on shampoo and soap.

Up to £10 on charity shop clothes.

A bit more on random things like emery boards.

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · 05/09/2026 11:43

fitness £67
face cream / makeup £30
clothes £60 I guess would be an average
Botox twice a year
not much else in regards to beauty treatments but a few treats a year maybe £250 over a year
kids £££££££££

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 05/09/2026 11:48

So I do (pluck, dye) my own eyebrows and cut my own hair (my hair is curly and I just have a simple cut so I can do it myself, have since I was 14).

I get my eyelashes done sometimes as a treat and that’s £75 (my niece does them so I get a discount). She also does my nails which is £30, sometimes free if I’ve been driving her around a lot. I normally have a fun seasonal design on them so I think to get them done like that is actually quite expensive.

So probably £105 per month

momager22 · 05/09/2026 11:48

£10 month av hair cut
£10 month box dye
£10 month cheap skincare products (inc face hair and body)
£50 month sinking fund for Botox
very little on make up - I can’t bear foundation or mascara these days though I do curl my lashes with heated curlers or I look like a pig
£50 ish month on vinted but I sell a lot too

I have a shark LED mask which was a gift a few years ago and I use that religiously
I also have a very pricey gym membership with sauna - exercise keeps my body and skin looking its best!

Avie29 · 05/09/2026 11:49

Most months £0 i have clothes so why do i need new ones every month, i haven’t gone to a hair dresser in years, i don’t wear makeup often enough to buy new every month, its not that i couldn’t afford to do it i just don’t 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Jerrybalanitis · 05/09/2026 11:52

If i am honest, about £2k if I factor in pilates one to one which is £150 a week. I have something cosmetic most months, botox, lips, fillers, laser etc. Cosmetics and perfume, treatments, nails. I probably buy one piece a month clothing wise, usually Burberry or Gucci. Either shoes or clothes. I earn a reasonable amount and dont have a huge amount of outgoings, corporate job pays rent and expenses and utilities so I am making the most of it while I can.

Anotherdayanothernight · 05/09/2026 11:57

Hair maybe £10 per month as I cut and tone it myself. Beauty products including make up maybe £30 per month. Clothing it depends, I’ve recently spent over £300 mainly on Vinted, got some amazing new designer bits, but I’ve also sold things there, and some months I don’t spend anything on clothing so don’t really know how much it adds up to

DelphiniumBlue · 05/09/2026 12:09

Average spends
Haircut £25 every 4 months = 6.25 pm
New nail polish approx every 6 months @ £6 each = 1.00 pm
Gym membership =£49.00 pm
yoga £40 pm
daycream including sun protection £70 pa = approx £6.00 pm
dyeing eyelashes and brows £20 every 6weeks or so = £14pm
threading eyebrows £4.00 pm
That's £120 pm and I haven't included shampoo ( normal and special swim shampoo) conditioner, body lotion, handcream, foot cream, nightcream, or antiperspirant, or scent, which I wear every day.
I buy most products from TK Maxx, ( so relatively cheap)I don't do facials, waxing, spas, hair colouring, nail salons, fillers, botox etc.
I don't wear much make-up, but have an eyeliner pencil that is £25 and lasts about 2 months, and and lipsticks that are about £20 a time, along with Burt Bees lip balms that costs about a fiver.
I am much older than you `OP, but am currently spending more than I have ever done on self care, and it probably comes to not much less than you are spending. If you are having any treatments or highlights I can see it would easily add up to £200 pm +, and that's not including clothes.

pollydollydoo · 05/09/2026 12:16

Im 37 and admittedly get a fair bit done on a varying basis, but breaks down monthly and yearly as:

Root tint every 4 weeks - £60 (£720)
balayage and cut twice a year - £250 (£500)
gel manicure every 3 weeks - £35 (£550)
pedicure every 2 months -£40 (£240)
botox every 3 months - £270 (£1080)
weightloss jab every month - £280 (£3360)
facial every 6 weeks - £50 (£400)
eyebrow threading/top lip wax every 3-4 weeks - £10 (£120)

I’ll also throw in a few olaplex treatments for my hair and a 90 min massage every couple of months too. Adds up to around £7k a year, so about £600 a month ish.

I don’t spend much on clothes and my makeup is so old it probably needs a total refresh, but i don’t wear it more than a few times a month really.

I didn’t really bother with any of it really until a couple of years ago. Started the WLIs, lost 6 stone and started to feel so much better about myself and feeling like I was worth the investment. Then I had a couple of close friends pass away really young and suddenly, so I figured life was too short to not do things that you want to do.

Girlwithavibe · 05/09/2026 12:18

The thing is with your question your asking is everyone is different !!
Obviously not everyone has high maintenance hair and some people are ok wearing clothes on repeat !
Then others probs spends tons on fillers nails fake tans
Then u get us oldies I'm 50 I like to look good I'm a Hairstylist but don't pay for hair I keep nails natural I don't fake tan but in my earlier years I bought clothes galore nowadays I buy key pieces then some woman of my age spend loads some don't it's really strange how u feel I have to justify your spends
Sit down and tell you DH it's your money u spend it on what u want ! End of story .

Savvysix1984 · 05/09/2026 12:27

Probably averages about 300-350 per month. That doesn’t include clothes though.

pepayfelix · 05/09/2026 12:28

Oh man, I spend loads I think and it’s not even that noticeable! I bet most people would be shocked as I am usually just bumbling around in leggings with a mum bun.

I get my hair done twice a year but I go to a fancy salon so it’s £360 each time
Eyebrow dye and wax once a month, plus bikini wax at the salon a few times a year
Botox x2 a year
Spray tan before a holiday
I spend at least £100 a month on skincare and hair care products
I have various gadgets like a Dyson hairdryer and an LED face mask
plus stuff like contact lenses and dental hygienist appointments which I consider more medical than beauty. Plus supplements and Mounjaro maintenance prescription.

I do my own nails and don’t really wear make up apart from mascara.

I’m also potentially about to lose my job so will need to rein it in a lot. Eek.

friedaklein · 05/09/2026 12:30

Just realised my biggest personal expense is theatre tickets.

sunandpeonies · 05/09/2026 12:38

Colour my own hair. £10 with professional products.
Started cutting it myself a few months ago. It’s long and I watch a few insta stories to see how to proceed. £0
Good shampoo £25
Don't use conditioner
Mani and Pedi at salon £90
Clothes etc mainly Vinted so probably £50 a month.
Make up is probably around £10 a month working our the average annual cost.
Botox 3 times a year so £50 averaging it out.
I think that’s it. Under £250 ish on an average month.

Lanaa · 05/09/2026 12:39

PT - £280
Massage - £130
Mounjaro - £200
Clothes - £100ish
Skincare/Toiletries/Makeup £50
I do my own nails I guess I probably spend about it £10 a month on professional supplies.
Occasional splurges on lashes or thing like my red light mask.
My hair costs a fortune. I’m have afro hair and it takes time and £££. I probably average £150-200 a month.
I’m losing weight so I have to buy a lot of clothes too.

I guess it’s all relative. The amount I spend to look and feel my best is outrageous to the bar of soap brigade, but it’s important to me. What Turkish Shepherd said is right though. He has no right to moan about what you spend.

grinandslothit · 05/09/2026 12:44

Are we counting WLI in total cost as that seems more for health than for beauty?

I would say maybe 25 per month as I'm older and finally started using a face cream. I color my own hair I do need a cut though
