How often do you find money - and do you keep it?

I was out walking today and musing about the money I've found over the years. On average I find about £15 per year ( this year so far it's about £7, still a few months to go).

I tend to keep anything under about £5, but for big amounts I hand it in to the police, who give it back to me after a month if it's unclaimed (which it always is). I once found £60, and last year I found £40 - both of which I got to keep.

Does anyone else find money often?

I sometimes find the odd £20 in DH's wallet which I'll keep.

I have found money in the past, not big money, maybe just a pound or whatever but I tend to put it in the nearest charity box.

I’ve never found anything bigger than a coin out on the street.

i once found 900 I forgot I had stashed away in a drawer several years prior. That was a pleasant surprise even though it was my own money.

Normally in the street or on the pavement or car park.

Hardly ever. If I found a note I’d be inclined to keep it, unless it was say a shop or cafe or just outside where someone might hand it in. A bundle of notes or a wallet/purse Id hand in if it was a shop, cafe etc or take to the police otherwise

Actually my dad did find a three stone gold diamond ring once he took it to the police station and it was given back to him. My mum kept it but she never wore it and SIL has it now.

I’ve never found anything bigger than a few coins, unless you count money left in trousers in the washing basket washing (DH and DS). I feel I should claim it as payment for actually checking before doing the washing but I’m too nice.

I once found £20 randomly lying in the street. No one was around and I did keep as it was more hassle to travel 3 towns over to the police station.

I found a £10 note in the gym changing room once & handed that in, because I thought there was a fair chance the owner would know where she’d lost it.

In about 1998 I found four $20 notes on the floor of an Australian supermarket, and gave them to one of the shop assistants saying someone must have dropped it. She looked at me as though I was mad!

I found a 20 pound note on the pavement on the way to the bus stop. I kept it. I've found a couple of fivers in the past and kept them.

I tend to find around $50 a year in notes and coins. People tend to be quite casual about cash where I live! I always give it to the next homeless person I see.

My husband is a pain in the arse for leaving coins in his pockets and then they find their ways to various surfaces when tidying up these become mine. All money in the household is ours but I do feel a bit of a thrill taking it 😆

I've only found paper money once, as a teenager my friend and I spotted £20 on the ground next to the cash machine. We split it between the 2 of us.

I will pick up coins from 50p and above but don't keep them for myself, tend to throw them in the charity box.

I found $45 on the floor in Vegas a few weeks ago. No way of finding the owner so I gambled it and won quite a bit more.

I found £60 in a library and gave it in to the librarian and I am 99.99999999% they just pocketed it from an interaction the following week when I asked about it.

I was stood behind a few pensioners and I still feel sad that one of them lost it and it never made it back to them.

Found between £80 & £120 last year on the side of the road just laying there as we drove past. Went back for it, then further down the road saw a very harassed/stressed lady on the phone... We pulled over and asked if she had lost anything and she told us her money had fallen out her stupid pocket. Was nice to be able to return it.

I'm pretty sure that's what happened to the money I found in the Aussie supermarket! I have sometimes thought of the number of Mars bars I could have bought with that 🫣

Whenever I find money, I hand it in. Like if it’s in a car park, I take it to the building the car park is for. In my mind, the loss of it could be awful for someone so I could never keep it.

Bunch of times, money in my local spar on the floor, hanging out of a cash point, dropped in Aldi. I just hand it to staff. Why wouldn’t you, it’s stealing otherwise 🤷🏻‍♀️
