Just mucked up with our holiday booking, and it’s cost us a few hundred. I’m so annoyed with myself as we were literally scraping the top end of our budget without this mistake.

please share your recent expensive mistakes to help make me feel better! Or at least help me get things in perspective!

Bought concert tickets for 2 bands, same night, different locations.
Can't resell or get refund.
£150 worth so bloody annoying but not disastrous. Anyone want to go? It's January 2027

Grrr, sorry to hear I wasn’t the only one. I’m sure there were loads of us. But it still stings. My friend who was less organised didn’t have to pay. 😬

Quite few years ago now we were going to Edinburgh and had been discussing dates, deciding to go for the first night of the Tattoo, staying a night on the way rather than belting up the A1, a booking for the Da Vinci exhibition at Holyrood House and afternoon tea at a city centre hotel. On the Friday of the week before our daughter rang at midday from Edinburgh, Are you booked for the first night of the Tattoo, because it's tonight! Oh Hell! Then she suggested we jump in the car and come up, not an option from here! My heart was thudding as a checked all the bookings and luckily everything else was for the following weekend. I rang the Tattoo office, eventually they accepted a photo of our tickets and refunded the majority of the cost. When I asked about tickets for the following weekend's Tattoo she was very apologetic that there weren't 2 seats together, which I accepted saying it seemed a good idea as the error had been mine!

Not recent but had booked a hotel on flex; thought I’d keep watch and look for a cheaper deal
nearer the date. Found one, cancelled the original and rebooked on the cheap deal. Great, I thought.

Got to the hotel, no booking! Turns out the booking I’d made was for the DAY BEFORE. So, I had to book again - still got a deal but wasted the booking from the day before so ended up quite out of pocket.

Still kicking myself years later - pratt!

This thread is making me feel better! So easy to make mistakes!

We've just returned from holiday in France. I bought a return train ticket from City X to City Y in the south, thinking it would be like a period return, but in fact it was a day return (though this was EXTREMELY UNCLEAR at the time of purchase) and so I had to fork out again for return train tickets.

So frustrating as I effectively paid twice for our return journey! (The price of the period return journey was exactly the same as the day return, but I couldn't use the day return tickets.)

If anyone is ever travelling with TER tickets in the south of France, please buy your tickets for each day of travel individually!

DD went to uni in 2015 and had the vaccine before starting back then, it was done at the GP and free. Did they stop doing it and then reinstated it?

I have ADHD and earlier this year I booked a flight home… a week before my departure flight 😅 It was non-refundable so I had to book a flight for the right date. It was coming up spenny so I found another route with one stop. Pretty cool I thought, as it meant we got to spend the day in Italy en route home. Well, the first flight to Italy ended up getting cancelled, so I had to pay an obscene amount for a last minute flight so we could still board the second flight home. Couldn’t claim as I’d booked the flights separate of one another 💀 Effectively, what was meant to be 1 flight, I had to pay for 4… and only got to board 2 of them.

Take the bastard to small claims court.

Forgot to take passports to airport. Had to rebook flights for everyone, travel home, travel back again. £650 mistake and lost a day of holiday, and everyone was grumpy.

Not me, but my husband this weekend. He booked 5 tickets for Jesus Christ Superstar for last Friday night as we were in London for a 25th anniversary party on the Saturday. Arrive at the Palladium to find out he’d booked for the Saturday, when we couldn’t go.
Only managed to sell 2 tickets.

Your pen will be fine. My fridge broke when I was on holiday so my pen wasn't refrigerated for 2 weeks. It was absolutely fine

Yeah, as other pps have said, you don't need to refrigerate it if you're going to use it in 30 days

A CC balance transfer cost me best part of £900 in unpaid OD fees....
Had about 10k on my CC and needed to do a 0% balance transfer to another. Did that fine but completely forgot that I hadn't changed the monthly DD on the new card to the minimum payment and it took the FULL amount from my bank account on the first repayment! I only found out when I received a shitty message from my bank account telling me I had until 2pm to put some money in my account otherwise they would freeze all payments 🤦‍♀️
To rectify my mistake I had to do a cash transfer from the original CC that I cleared the month previously to put over 10k back into my current account! The charges I incurred to di a cash transfer, plus the usage of an unplanned overdraft cost me just over £900......

My husband has just done the same thing. £200

Our son plays hockey, the kit is really expensive, I got the date of the resale wrong, so we’ve had to buy all brand new gear this year. Second hand would have been about £4-500, new has cost us £1,300 and he’ll only get one season out of that, assuming he only needs blades sharpening and doesn’t break too many sticks.

We had this on our living room walls up until we last repainted, for me it absolutely was a perfect duck egg blue but I know that’s subjective!

A car hit mine so I have a courtesy car. Came back to it in a car park with scapes down the front wing. I don’t think it was me! It’s brand new. More money!

I have so much stuff due to constantly thinking I'll be well enough to ... put the flatpacks together and sort out my chaos, redecorate, install this new light and that new kitchen thingy. All now adding to the insane piles of cardboard boxes cluttering my flat. Same with hobby stuff: it accumulates because I like buying it, but rarely have the energy to see a project through.

Most recent mistake along the same lines, around £200 of clothes that aren't right for me. Having forgotten to check their exact return procedures, found I'd have to walk to the post office. So I waited until I felt well enough and missed the bloody window!

New resolution: Assume incapacity, plan accordingly 😬

So why are people told it needs to be in the fridge?

Builder 10K to render our 3 bed smi detached house, apparently it has a 10 year guarantee, paid the final balance before we did the snagging checks, left with a few areas not fully finished, he totally ignored me.
Neighbours got it done for 3K front and back olny as a terrace, cannot see any difference in quality.

I bought a house with a man last year I now need to leave after he showed a different side last weekend. I paid most and we won't get out money back if we sell now meaning my cut would be at least 200k less than I put in.

This relationship has cost me a lot... And I'll end up worse for it.
So I'll be here in hope prices improve so I don't lose too much. I've already lost myself.
