So sad to hear this 😪

What a total loss to the world. She was such amazing lady. I’m so sad 😢

Papyrophile · 25/08/2026 19:26

Loved Dolly when she was on a chat show one Saturday night and talked about the celebration of her wedding anniversary: "we go back to our old lover's lane, and get in the back of the car to make out!" Creased me up.

Clever, witty, earthy and a tour de force. Before you remember the music. But her reading programmes should ensure her legend.

leavesinthebreeze · 25/08/2026 19:26

Loveky statement from her nephew ❤️

Thegreatestoftheseislove · 25/08/2026 19:26

Loved her voice; loved her songs. Beautiful soul now safe in the arms of Jesus.

Lomonald · 25/08/2026 19:27

I am genuinely upset by this she was an absolute icon and if there was real angels on earth then she was one of them. RIP.💔

Therewerelions · 25/08/2026 19:27

Beautiful inside and out, you will be missed Dolly x

‘Coat of Many Colors’ was my favourite. Biographic and so full of heart. I used it in schools as a great discussion starter.

Yes, it is a beautiful song.

Bogstandardname · 25/08/2026 19:28

Shocked and sad. What a lovely, beautiful soul.

Uricon2 · 25/08/2026 19:28

There are very few people where you feel like a light has gone out in the world when they die. Dolly is one of them.

Martymcfly24 · 25/08/2026 19:28

The first time I have ever shed a tear over a stars passing. She really was one of the good ones. Saw her live and her voice is stunning. Worked in a school in area that benefited from her books.
Rest in peace Dolly.

ElizaSchuyler · 25/08/2026 19:29

The world will be a poorer place without Dolly. Not just for her incredible talent but the joy she brought and the incredible charity work.

Pedallleur · 25/08/2026 19:31

Rags to riches and used those riches and her voice to help others. One of a kind. A sad loss. Hope Trump doesn't say something horrible. No justice that he is alive and she isnt

Oh no 😢 she was a wonderful wonderful lady, I've been listening to her since the early seventies, my parents loved her, I don't think I ever heard a bad word about her, may she rest in peace
,

Me too.

This was our family, caravanning holiday, cassette. All of us blasting it out, even as little kids, we knew every word. Applejack a huge favourite.

Such happy carefree memories of being a little girl, sharing in the music my late father loved.

I loved her. And remember - she wrote I Will Always Love You AND Jolene on the same day!

Wow, did not know that

RobertaFirmino · 25/08/2026 19:31

Reunited with Carl. RIP Dolly.

PinkTonic · 25/08/2026 19:32

An icon and truly beautiful human. Sad news, RIP Dolly ❤️

Abustedflush · 25/08/2026 19:32

The best of the best, a uniquely talented singer, songwriter and philanthropist.
Such sad news.

longtompot · 25/08/2026 19:32

My dh just told me. Such sad news. She seemed a really genuinely kind person 😢

UpForThis · 25/08/2026 19:34

I have just cried - Sky News have just flashed up a message

‘I will always love you, Dolly xxx’

My ‘father and daughter’ dance at my wedding. The words I wrote to my daddy, on the card on his flowers, as we layer him to rest.

RIP Dolly.

Dollymylove · 25/08/2026 19:35

This, a million times over.
Beautiful lady xx 😘

Velvasilk · 25/08/2026 19:35

I'm so sad to see this. I'm not really a fan of her songs but I'm a big fan of her as a person, she was just wonderful in so many ways. Just fantastic on talk shows. I didn't realise she's 80, she appeared in her 60s. I think she's never really got over losing her husband last year. She's really going to be missed.

bitontheobtuse · 25/08/2026 19:35

Oh no, that's so sad. RIP Dolly.

lalalagarden · 25/08/2026 19:36

Ah, so sad. Magnificent woman and so kind.

Alittlefrustrated · 25/08/2026 19:36

Adored her. Was lucky enough to see her live - fantastic performer, even if I had heard the same stories a 100 times 🤣
80 years lived to the max.
