A wonderful women who really did make the world a better place, this is such sad news

LondonLass2026 · 25/08/2026 19:36

We listen to her "Hard Candy Christmas" every Christmas time. It's going to be so sad this year. Partner and I were huge fans.

IamEarthymama · 25/08/2026 19:37

What a lovely, heartfelt tribute from her nephew!💖🩷💖

Judysdreamofhorses · 25/08/2026 19:38

@FizzingAda I still have my son's copy of The little engine that could which was his first book from the imagination library when he started nursery, it came with a lovely little note explaining the charity's mission statement. So many people will be sad this evening, what a legacy.

Just listening to Jo Whiley and without being maudlin I'm surprised how sad I am. I just assumed she would go on in her magnificent fashion until she was 100.

I've just been listening to that too and I'm weepy.

LindorDoubleChoc · 25/08/2026 19:39

Just go home from work and DH broke the news to me. He was a bit wobbly and so am I. I just absolutely loved her and so many of her wonderful songs. Coat Of Many Colours is in my top 20 of all time. Nine to Five is one of my favourite ever movies. RIP wonderful, amazing, supremely talented, just brilliant Dolly Parton 💔. I am gutted.

Bobbieiris · 25/08/2026 19:39

So sad, I absolutely loved Dolly ❤️

I have just cried - Sky News have just flashed up a message

‘I will always love you, Dolly xxx’

My ‘father and daughter’ dance at my wedding. The words I wrote to my daddy, on the card on his flowers, as we layer him to rest.

RIP Dolly.

Idk why but that really got me. ❤️

WerewolfOfLoudon · 25/08/2026 19:40

Bless her 💔 Was only a couple of days ago she had said caring for her husband had taken a toll on her health.

9 to 5 ❤

Superhansrantowindsor · 25/08/2026 19:40

She seemed so lovely. Very sad to hear this news. What a legacy she has left behind.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 25/08/2026 19:41

She’s one of those people who have always been there and you sort of presume they’ll always be there. She looked fab as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader not that long ago!

Happyhettie · 25/08/2026 19:41

Absolutely gutted 💔 What a woman.

PonkyPonky · 25/08/2026 19:42

I saw Dolly Parton live once and she was by far the best act I’d ever seen. She played about 10 different instruments through the show and told jokes between the songs. She was so so talented. She’s been my favourite singer for as long as I can remember and I’m gutted ☹️

Neveranynamesleft · 25/08/2026 19:42

How wonderful that nobody has a bad word to say about her.

CarrieOakie · 25/08/2026 19:42

I liked the fact she worked so hard to get books to children

Calling · 25/08/2026 19:43

What a shame. She was a kind lady with a very pretty voice. I feel sad. RIP Dolly ✝

PickyTits · 25/08/2026 19:43

I grew up with such a shit childhood and Dolly got me through the worst years.

At times it felt she was all I had.

I had these gigantic headphones and would sit in a little gap between the wall and the record player, Dolly drowning out the noise of all the other shit going on in the house and in my life.

I never cry over the death of celebrities and find celebrity worship a bit odd but fuck me I am gutted. Going to have a few beers and a night of Dolly karaoke, fuck it.

WildClover · 25/08/2026 19:44

I'm so sad. I had the pleasure to see her live once. An incredible woman. RIP Dolly

MagicThanks · 25/08/2026 19:44

I actually cried. Love her so much. My children benefitted from her imagination library.

MalteserGeezee · 25/08/2026 19:45

What a beautiful person, in every possible way. Rest in rhinestones, Dolly xx

MissFancyDay · 25/08/2026 19:46

Oh no, how sad. She was always such a joy to watch when she talked.

As sharp as a whip, never afraid to make fun of herself...what a life. So many people will be sad tonight.

RIP Dolly x

Lucky you!

Don’t tell anyone 😉🤫, but I gave my Newly Qualified Teacher, a days leave, so that she could stay on at Glastonbury to see Dolly!

The closest I ever got. ☺️

How wonderful that nobody has a bad word to say about her.

There seemingly was nothing bad about her. Must have been steely to survive in that business for so long and control her career but she just radiated joy.

Gingernaut · 25/08/2026 19:46

She wanted to lay in a bed of plush cotton having lived her life in rhinestones 😪
