Genuinely sad to hear this.

TonTonMacoute · 25/08/2026 19:13

What sad news. An extraordinary powerhouse of a lady who used her talent, fame, amazing personality and position to give back.

Never knew she wrote both those songs on the same day - that’s amazing!

I know! I found that out at Dollywood. I Will Always Love You was deeply personal for her too, so not purely a business decision not to sign her rights away to Col Parker and co.

ilovebrie8 · 25/08/2026 19:13

Very sad, loved Dolly

PlacidPenelope · 25/08/2026 19:13

So sad to hear this she was an amazing woman.

PropertyD · 25/08/2026 19:14

I don’t even know her but am sad. She always had a twinkle in her eye. A friend was going to see her in Las Vegas but Dolly cancelled her shows. I guess she knew..

Eyesopenwideawake · 25/08/2026 19:14

So sad. From every report she was an amazing woman.

Yupstillhere · 25/08/2026 19:14

Bless her, she made a difference to the world. Her reading programme. Being unashamedly herself. What a diva.

I read a few weeks ago that she'd cancelled some gigs and guessed she was ill.
I hope she can rest in peace with her husband.

I am genuinely so sad to hear this. I loved Dolly.

Neolara · 25/08/2026 19:14

I think Dolly was one of the celebrities that pretty much everyone loves.

Great singer / songwriter. Lots of charitable works. Lots of fun and just an all round decent sort.

My sister played that song on repeat when our mum died when we were teens. Amazing song.

InNewYorkNoShoes · 25/08/2026 19:14

I loved her, a beautiful woman and truly iconic.

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 25/08/2026 19:15

Ah bless her.
RIP Dolly x

‘Coat of Many Colors’ was my favourite. Biographic and so full of heart. I used it in schools as a great discussion starter.

Emeraldforest · 25/08/2026 19:16

Catsandcheese · 25/08/2026 19:16

So sorry to hear this. A lovely lady by all accounts

Stigsmother · 25/08/2026 19:16

Just listening to Jo Whiley and without being maudlin I'm surprised how sad I am. I just assumed she would go on in her magnificent fashion until she was 100.

Aah how sad. I loved her.

My favourite quote of hers 'People think I'm just a dumb blonde. I know I'm not dumb. I also know I'm not blonde'.

My favourite quote when being interviewed by Sue Lawley who was being bitchy about her clothing and style she said 'I would never stoop so low as to be fashionable'

Love it.

Me too actually I thought she would go on for many more years.

Another one so sad to hear this. What an amazing lady. She achieved so much but one of my absolute personal favourites was her performance in Steel Magnolias. RIP Dolly.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 25/08/2026 19:18
