Which tv theme tunes from your childhood/teens gives you the biggest waves of nostalgia?

I was a complete googleboxer as a child and teen back in the 80’s/90’s, I may be a bit biased as I grew up in those decades but imo the best tv shows came from that era.

I often find myself listening to my favourites on YouTube and they give such bittersweet memories. Memories of my happy childhood and watching tv in our living room because we only had one tv growing up. I also have such fond memories of watching a lot of these shows with my parents who are sadly now elderly and mum has advanced dementia so they often feel even more poignant these days.

Anyhow, this is my list:-

Shows my parents would watch and I’d hear from my bedroom at night wishing I could watch them too (we were allowed during holidays and weekends),

Hill Street Blues
M.A.S.H
Taxi
Dallas (we were allowed to watch this every week when it was on)
Bergerac (mum fancied John Nettles!)
Auf Weidersehen pet (dad’s favourite because he was in the building trade)
The Golden Girls (my mum’s, sisters and my favourite show, I still watch this on Disney)

Murder She Wrote
Kate and Allie
The Wonder Years
Moonlighting (I feel deep nostalgia for this theme tune because it was the first ‘grown up’ show I was allowed to watch when I was 14 years old, on my little black and white portable tv in my bedroom)

There are dozens more but these are the ones that really pull on my heartstrings.

Tales of the unexpected. I appeared in episode.

White Horses! The sound of the school holidays. (And the Why Don’t You…? theme music, for the same reason.)

Oh and the Swap Shop theme, loved that programme.

My kids as young adults now but when they were little I bought them a dvd with Bagpuss, Mr Ben and Jamie and the Magic Torch as well as some others. They said it was really boring, I was gutted lol!

Aaah Moonlighting! I loved it!

The two I remember was one where the guy turned into a bee and another where a pharmacist was having an affair with his assistant and he wanted to bump off his wife so he injected a box of chocolates with poison. Those two are etched into my brain.

The memories on here! It’s made me cry! Definitely Moonlighting had a massive crush on Bruce Willis. Grange Hill too. And when I was really young I seem to remember a dubbed series of Heidi? I can still remember the theme tune from that.

Tales of the Unexpected used to scare me! 😬

I knew every word to the Son’s and Daughter’s theme tune.

I remember my Dad being particularly keen to watch it! The drums at the start take me back to Saturdays nights in front of the telly. I dare not watch it now, I suspect it will have aged terribly!

Don’t even get me going on The Flumps, I loved that so much it still brings a lump to my throat.
