Hotel buffet breakfast, what's your selection?

I love a great buffet breakfast. Due on holiday in a few weeks and this is a part I am looking forward to! I tend to skip lunch so a lush breakfast is a real treat.
Just mulling over what I might have...maybe a small plate of savoury bits like ham, cheese, tomatoes, olives, and a slice of toast and butter. Then a bowl of fresh fruit, or a crepe with honey and fruit. A mini pastry or two. A mini cafetiere of coffee (my hotel does coffee by the cafetiere, yay).
Also love trying the local breakfast specialities such as those flaky honey crepes you get at breakfast in Morocco.
What's your choices?

This is what I always have:
Mimosa (if available, otherwise plain OJ)
Lactose-free latte and a pot of coffee with a jug of warm lactose-free milk alongside
Bowl of fruit salad with greek yoghurt, nuts, seeds and honey
Eggs benedict if available. If not, two poached eggs on toast with avocado and bacon or smoked salmon alongside
Then maybe a bit more fruit and maybe a mini pain au raisin

BCBird · 24/08/2026 16:46

Provided it all gluten free- which probably not! I'd have full English minus tomatoes, toast and some fruit.

BCBird · 24/08/2026 16:47

I would basically work my way through the menu, varying my choices each day.

Orange juice
Sausage(s) (links not square), bacon, black pudding, haggis, fried egg(s), tattie scone, fried bread, baked beans (not touching egg)
Followed by yoghurt, granola, and berry compote

DeepfriedPizza · 24/08/2026 17:27

Usually a bowl of yoghurt and granola followed by fresh bread with cold meat, cheese and tomato.

Pedallleur · 24/08/2026 17:29

Cereals like fruit and fibre/bran flakes with dried fruit eg sour cherries or raisins. Yogurt, fresh fruit. Maybe tomatoes on toast. Lots of places now using those catering scrambled eggs that don't have yolk in them. That's sold off elsewhere so I avoid those. Pastries maybe.

paomara · 24/08/2026 17:36

Orange/apple juice mixed, scrambled egg and hash brown, slice of toast, pastry, and "dessert" of yogurt and fruit. Coffee with milk. Never really varies for me, apart from the variety of sweet stuff and pastries! Then I go all weak kneed trying to decide and end up having too many.

But it's one of life's great pleasures, having breakfast in a hotel.

Apple juice
Latte or Cappuccino

Veggie sausages
Tomatoes
Loadsa mushrooms 😋
Eggs - poached or scrambled, not fried
Hash browns
Tattie scone if available

Pancakes or croissants with butter and honey and jam

Yoghurt
Fruit

Cherrysoup · 24/08/2026 17:38

Croissant, some baguette, sliced cheese, maybe a boiled egg, pocket an apple for later. Strong black coffee.

NotMyRealAccount · 24/08/2026 17:40

Whatever exotic treats I wouldn't be able to have at home.

tartyflette · 24/08/2026 17:41

Coffee. Lots of coffee. Some bacon, egg, mushroom, grilled tomato, fried bread. A croissant or pain au raisin. That should do it.

AltitudeCheck · 24/08/2026 17:43

Everything.... the only thing that changes is what order I have it in! Hungover I'd start with coffee and carbs. Feeling healthier I'd start with boiled egg, yoghurt and fruit but I'd still cave and have something cooked on toast and a sneaky pastry too!

Lavendersong · 24/08/2026 17:44

I love the omelette stand and all the fruit like watermelon and pineapple and a fresh croissant.

hahabahbag · 24/08/2026 17:45

Smoked salmon, rollmop herrings, mackerel … yes I like fish. Fruit , bread, guacamole. If it’s a really fancy London hotel or some other places I like an Indian breakfast most of all but it’s rare to find in Europe

Lavendersong · 24/08/2026 17:46

If it’s a UK hotel for work then I like the smoothies, croissant, fruit, bacon and fried eggs

rookiemere · 24/08/2026 17:46

As much smoked salmon as I can manage, scrambled eggs if they’re proper ones, bacon if it’s very crispy, mushrooms and some chopped fruit. In fact I might have the chopped fruit with plain greek yoghurt before the rest. Proper coffee- always bring coffee bags or mini cafetiere with ground coffee just in case, so I am especially delighted if the hotel coffee is decent.

I have reactive hypoglycaemia ( very low blood sugar resulting in faintness if I eat too much sugar or carbs) and I have to be very careful at breakfast on an empty stomach, so sadly no delicious looking pastries for me.

bitontheobtuse · 24/08/2026 17:47

Bran flakes.
ALL the hot stuff apart from black pudding.
Copious quantities of coffee, brown toast & marmalade, and possibly some sort of Danish pastry or other.

MagicThanks · 24/08/2026 17:47

Sausage, bacon, mushrooms, grilled tomato, toast, hash browns, eggs, orange juice and loads of coffee

mrsm43s · 24/08/2026 17:47

In an ideal world, freshly cooked Eggs Benedict or Eggs Royale, freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and a decent cup of coffee. I also love the continental cheese/meat/salad platter, and a decent selection of fresh fruit.

If cooked English is all that's on offer, I'll have 2 poached eggs, 2 rashers of bacon and some mushrooms. Possibly tomatoes too, if they look good. Again with juice & coffee.

Fruit, seeds and dried fruit with yoghurt. Croissant with butter cheese and bacon. 🥓

Ooh an Indian breakfast, sound amazing, what would you have if that was available?

In an attempt to limit myself from going completely over the top, my breakfast is ALWAYS:

Glass of water
2 x bacon
mushrooms
1 hash brown
Poached or scrambled egg

Followed by granola with sultanas and milk

Followed by Americano coffee with an extra espresso shot and 1 mini Danish pastry

Dobeebeedah · 24/08/2026 17:51

Proper porridge and smoked haddock, toast and butter. Lots of tea in UK, lots of fresh coffee and hot milk otherwise. I would love to have fresh fruit salad but unable to eat fruit before mid-day. I prefer breakfast to be served to me as I hate the scrum and big walkabout at buffets.

THisbackwithavengeance · 24/08/2026 17:52

I have the Full Monty with 2 cups of decent coffee. And then I pilfer a banana to take with me for elevenses.
