Seriously shocked at the cost of a fish and small chips supper in our local takeaway . £12 for a haddock and £4.50 for small chips . Hampshire based but even so 😩.

It's £21 for a large cod and chips in our London favourite.
Admittedly it does feed 2 people.

It isn't the general cost of living. Decades of overfishing has caused a shortage of fish and that is what has put the price up. Our local fish & chip shop has had to stop selling cod altogether because the wholesale price was ridiculous.

£16 at ours but it’s enough for 2 very generous portions. £8 a head really isn’t bad and it’s excellent quality, proper fish restaurant

Most of the time 1 portion of fish and chips is enough for two so it works out good value. Small portions of chips are massive.

cod and regular chips near me is £8.10! Large chips makes it an extra £1

See ours looks big but take the batter and the tail off and there’s not much left , not enough for two certainly .

Just checked the rest of the menu and a paper special of small fish chips and peas is £6

Not sure I'd want to make a habit of eating fish from UK waters - too polluted.

Was at a 4star Hotel recently. Haddock and Chips £21 and Scampi and Chips £16. Both lovely with sea views and table service. World gone mad.

Fish and chips not cod - 9.99. Not sure what type of fish a not cod is.

DH and I like to share a fish & chip supper occasionally on a Friday night but it has got so expensive! So instead I bought some nice oven chips and 2 Young's beer battered pollock from tesco. Also got a tin of mushy peas! Much cheaper and it was yummy 😋

Our local fish&chip van has swapped to hake because cod was getting too expensive.

Small cod and chips is £8.50 here in Cumbria. It’s a huge portion though!

Fish chips, bread and butter and a cup of tea £10.

Two pieces of haddock and chips are £12.49 and a single piece of fish and chips is £9.49. This take away always has 25% off on a food app so they are even cheaper.

It varies a lot around here, but the best is a pub in town. Monday to Friday 2 fish and chips for £14. Optional peas and tartar sauce.

I live in Spain, and had fish and chips from a British run place recently. It was 19 € for a large fish, regular chips and garden peas. So I guess it’s just expensive everywhere.

£16.50 for regular cod and chips in a non coastal Somerset town. I get Hoki and chips which is £10.50
