Advice for husbands adjusting to daily shaving for a new job

Husband has secured a job where he is facing having to be “clean shaven” or to sport groomed facial hair.

Husband is refusing to go down any bearded road, but is also terrified at the prospect of ripping his skin to shreds every 24 hours. He currently shaves every other day, or further apart if he can get away with it, but he is now facing, with jangling nerves, corporate levels of presentability.

What do other husbands do? Is there some caveman, Reddit-honed secret out there that can help?

Er, ‘terrified’?

CrustyBread1977 · 22/08/2026 10:19

Why would he be ripping his skin to shreds?

Illicililly · 22/08/2026 10:20

Use an electric shaver.

Use an electric razor. My DS has never used anything else.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 22/08/2026 10:20

Electric razor?

CharlotteStreetW1 · 22/08/2026 10:21

Ooh - a triple cross-post!

PurplebudsWhitebuds · 22/08/2026 10:29

Sorry OP but why is this such a big deal for him?
So many options as regards electric razors - even if he has sensitive skin.
Blimey some men actually sometimes shave twice a day because of 5 o'clock shadow.

When you think what a lot of women voluntarily put themselves through to achieve a hairless finish ( not on their faces of course) this is really quite laughable.

ChickenBananaBanana · 22/08/2026 10:31

Can he not Google and ask this himself?

redboxerclub · 22/08/2026 10:32

What job requires this missed point of thread

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 22/08/2026 10:33

What job in this day and age insists on clean shaven? Genuinely curious 🤔

HowardTJMoon · 22/08/2026 10:33

How does he shave now and what problems is he having?

Women have facial hair too and often wax it. Which is way worse than shaving! It seems bizarre that a grown man is terrified of having to do something so normal.

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 22/08/2026 10:34

Is he not capable of looking into this himself. Tell him to get a grip and start googling for himself

Gettingbysomehow · 22/08/2026 10:35

Is he on warfarin?

TeaAndStrumpets · 22/08/2026 10:35

Gosh what a dilemma.

What about your delicate skin? Doesn't stubbly hubby ever want a smooch? Let's face it, at the moment he is being slovenly so perhaps he should grow a beard and get a trimmer.

ExplodingCarrots · 22/08/2026 10:35

DH works in an industry where he has to be clean shaven (because of equipment rather than presentation) . He uses the Phillips one blade and there’s zero issues and no ripping face to shreds . It’s just something he got into the routine of pretty quickly and finding a decent razor made life much easier .

GaaNeen · 22/08/2026 10:36

How has he reached adult hood and not
figured this out yet ? 🤣

Jobs that require use of equipment such as breathing apparatus.

Hopes nobody notices the quiet closing of the drawer containing 20x magnifying mirror and precision tweezers plus all sorts of bleaching equipment

I can recommend 30x but you have to be feeling brave.

I hope your post is hyperbole for comic effect because this level of pathetic would seriously make me question my life choices.

As for you coming onto a women’s forum to ask how men should shave their pretty little faces…ugh. Does he not have google in his list of attributes for this new post?

Castolaya · 22/08/2026 10:43

I honestly never knew this was a thing.

DH shaves every day, my father shaved every day. Brothers every day - most male work colleagues - every day.

Some I know wet shave - DH, some I know of electric razor - Dad. No torn apart faces.

Has your DH sensory issues?

Bogstandardname · 22/08/2026 10:45

Moisturise after shaving. There are are a lot of men's shaving products. Suggest he takes a look around Boots or Superdrug or the like.

CorporalJohn · 22/08/2026 10:48

The only way he will rip his face to shreds if he: (a) uses a cut-throat razor and (b) shaves when he's drunk.

Bladed razors are called "safety razors" for a reason.

Or use an electric.

ALevelBNotLevel · 22/08/2026 10:52

I'm a man and I would hate to have to shave every day.
I have mild psoriasis and generally sensitive skin and having to shave every day would be a pain. Thankfully I don't have to and probably shave every 4/5 days.
Having said that, I've never used an electric shaver so maybe that would be better.
@ExplodingCarrots I had a look at the Philips one blade so may give that a go.
Though it does seem to suggest that it doesn't shave as close as a normal razor blade and that's partly why it's less abrasive on the skin.
Is that your experience (or probably your husband's experience).
