Mine is in Titanic (1997). The immediate aftermath of the ship hitting the iceberg and the reaction to it. I have seen the
film more times than I can count but bit still takes my breath away.

OP posts:

Brad Pitt with the hairdryer in T&L. Oooof!

julesagain · 17/08/2026 13:56

Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, with the shop assistants. Julia Roberts in Erin Brocovich recalling the telephone numbers, also her explaining how she got the signatures with sexual favours and the final scene where she thinks she's being short changed with her bonus and then she sees the cheque.
Also the final scene in Billy Elliot.

And one more if I may, is the scene in Champions where Aldaniti is brought back to Josh Giffords yard and Bob Champion ( played by the wonderful John Hurt) says you took your bloody time. Que tears from me every time.

The scene at the end in Billy Elliot where he leaps onto to the stage and his father is in the audience to see him. Omg !

Superb acting of the dad!

Hamserfan
Just me that is shallow enough to love the cheesy scene where Keanu Reeves’ arms wrap around Sandra Bullock as they leave the bus on the board in Speed?! 🤣🤣

Shivers- it’s soooooo romantic- could watch that all day!!!

Also my best friend’s wedding where he says if you love someone you should shout it, really let them know before the moment goes, but then the boat comes out into the sunshine and the moment ends and she’s crying without him knowing

its also symbolic (water under the bridge)

Philandbill · 17/08/2026 14:25

Last of the Mohicans - The scene behind the waterfall where Hawkeye promises to find Cora.

Arrival -the montage scene with her daughter Hannah at the end of the film.

Malasana · 17/08/2026 14:39

Bridesmaids - when they go dress shopping. Makes me laugh every time.

JuliettaCaeser · 17/08/2026 14:46

The end of Don’t Look Now when the meteorite strikes and they all sit round the family table holding hands.

Yes especially when you find out what happened to them all xxxx

I know. Sian became an MP!

There’s the scene where they’re buttering bread and Cliff says he’s gay and she says she’s known for years. So beautifully done.

The dinner party scene at the end of Carry On Up the Khyber.

Indeed!

"three scenes in Gattaca. When Vincent's brother asks him how he can keep swimming and he says he never saves anything for the swim back. The scene with Jude Law and the incinerator. Then right at the end when the doctor gives advice about how he should pee."

Such a good film. Good acting esp Jude Law

Camberwell Carrot scene, or Uncle Monty in full blue eyeshadowed seduction

Bruce Robinson is a genius

He is a genius! He wrote the screenplay for The Killing Fields about the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia. Such an emotionally devastating and bleak film.

I meant Kenneth Branagh, better even than Laurence Olivier version.

but Tom Hiddleston is better than Branagh

upinaballoon · 17/08/2026 18:46

It's an impossible question, OP.

One I remember -Omar Sharif being a little dot in the shimmering distance and padding forward until he becomes a man on a camel. Lawrence of Arabia. I once watched a programme about David Lean and he talked about the his job of deciding how long to hold the shot so that you don't lose the attention of the audience.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 17/08/2026 20:03

The final surfing scene at Bells beach in Point Break. ‘He’s not coming back.’
The stoning scene - The Life of Brian
Charlie finding the golden ticket - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the original)

LaBelleSauvage123 · 17/08/2026 21:14

The scene in Shawshank Redemption when you realise that Andy has escaped
through the hole behind the poster.

The Sound of Music - 'and somewhere out in that garden is someone who, I think, will never be a nun'

we watched a programme about him, at home at work, he seemed an intense man,
he based Uncle Monty on Zefferelli, who had propositioned him whilst filming
Romeo and Juliet

I remember the wolves in the compound abutting Regents Park, silent and slinking,
they are not there now.
W&I is one of our Christmas films, we never tire.
The “who is the *** in the bath” line still makes me choke, as though Ive never heard it so many times.
brilliant film

I couldn’t watch The Killing Fields, being a cissy and a fainter but I remember
the accolades

LaBelleSauvage123 · 17/08/2026 21:19

Oh and the scene in Coda where Emilia Jones is singing Both Sides Now at the audition and signing it for her deaf family watching from the circle.

I nearly quoted this scene! we watched LoA in three parts last week
this scene was mesmerising
then after causing mayhem he rides away

”we have taken Aqqaba” - unforgettable line

LuckyHazelFox · 17/08/2026 21:27

Talking of Erin Brockovich. Love it where Albert Finney tells her she's been making the office staff feel uncomfortable with her risqué clothes. She says well I think I look nice and so long as I've got one ass instead of two I'll wear what I like 😆 🤣 or words to that effect.

6ate9 · 17/08/2026 21:30

@Madamefroufrou “he based Uncle Monty on Zefferelli, who had propositioned him whilst filming Romeo and Juliet”

I’ve read about that. He was only 21 when he filmed Romeo and Juliet. It was his first role.

hopspot · 17/08/2026 22:18

I love the final scene in Billy Elliott but feel irrationally annoyed that the actor playing the adult Billy stretches his neck like a million times during it. For some reason it really irritates me. I have to ignore that and focus on the other characters / actors who are wonderful.

Lavenderandbrown · 17/08/2026 22:22

Enjoyable thread bringing back many movie memories. Also Erin Brockovich when Danny Devitos character asks Erin where is everyone and she replies the “the girls all went to lunch” and he says in his great DD deadpan way…aren’t you one of the girls?
