What colour is my hair (photo)

I was platinum blonde as a young child darkening to a lightish honey blonde as a teen. Nowadays I'd probably consider myself mousy, albeit on the lighter end of mouse. I don't think I'm quite dark enough to be brown haired. Three times this weekend I've been referred to as a redhead/strawberry blonde. This has surprised me, as I've never thought of my hair as red at all!

I'm in my 50s my hair is completely natural and I have a small amount of grey, but not much. My hair is probably a bit lighter than usual as I do get natural blonde highlights in the sun, which there's been plenty of this year. There's quite a mix of colours in my hair, it's never been one uniform shade because it lightens so easily in the sun.

So what colour would you describe my hair as?

100% honey blonde and if that’s the underneath the top will be a lot lighter! People are strange, it’s not brown at all 😂 I think so many people get their hair bleached so they’ve lost sight of a natural blonde.

It's not dark enough to be brown, light or otherwise. Either the photo is showing up weirdly on different screens or people are deliberate obtuse.

In any case, I guess to clarify my question, I'm asking if people can see red/strawberry tones in the underlying base colour, and from the answers, it seems like they can.

Now, I'm wondering if that red tone has come from the sun, and will grow out over winter, or whether it's always been there?

So, because people don't think your hair is blonde, they are being 'deliberately obtuse?' What a silly and arrogant response. Why bother asking what colour people think your hair is, if you are going to get stroppy and throw your toys out of the pram when people don't say what you want to hear?

IMO. your hair is cool light brown. With small flecks of grey at the roots. I see no 'strawberry blonde' in there.

It is not 'blonde' IMO, and lots of other people have said it isn't. Why are you so desperate for people to say it's blonde? Call it blonde if you want to. No-one cares, really! And NOBODY is saying having brown hair is an insult. From the way you're going on, YOU are the only one who thinks that saying someone has brown hair is an insult. Get over yourself.

Definitely reddish to me - I would call it auburn.

My DD has a very similar colour and we’ve never found a name for it

This is auburn hair. And it's lovely.

MargaretMeldrew · 16/08/2026 20:09

I would call it dark blonde. Reasonably common here in Ireland, even though everyone thinks we’re all redheads. Usually referred to as dirty fair, but I think dark blonde sounds better.

EasternStandard · 16/08/2026 20:10

Light brown with a reddish tinge

Well it is blonde. That's simply a fact. So if people's screens are so far out that they're seeing a mid blonde as a brown, then they really aren't going to be able to see well enough to see whether it has red tones or not.

Light brown, you may not go very grey when you are older, me and my mum had light brown hair and we went blonder as we got older but a strange grey blond, a bit like Richard Madeley colour

StrawberrySundaes · 16/08/2026 20:13

I would call it medium to dark golden blonde.

Queenncat · 16/08/2026 20:13

Dark strawberry blonde with ashy tones

Marroon · 16/08/2026 20:13

Imagine being 50 years old and arguing about how blonde your hair is.

YosoyEduardo · 16/08/2026 20:13

Omg your posts OP.
OK EVERYBODY ALL TOGETHER NOW
"YES YOUR HAIR IS BLONDE. YOU ARE ABSOLTELY CORRECT"

If we all can't agree with the OP can you just not post. Just nod and agree folks....

Chickenwing2 · 16/08/2026 20:15

You are being very weird about your hair…. The first pic is a light brown with a red tinge, the second pic is dark blonde with a red tinge.

Shloopie · 16/08/2026 20:15

This thread. 😂

It's nearly on a par with a classic 'how old do I look?' thread.

theresbeautyinwindysun · 16/08/2026 20:15

Gorgeous hair. If you’ve not got any grey at age 50 I’d think you’d have to be at least on the spectrum of reddish hair? I am very jealous of my friend’s beautiful hair colour at age 50, and she explained redheads don’t tend to go grey. Dark blonde with red undertones? It’s a beautiful colour.

lovingthebeachlife · 16/08/2026 20:15

i see red

DeterminedRat · 16/08/2026 20:16

Why ask a question and then argue with everyone who gives a different answer to the one that you think is correct. You clearly have an idea in your head of what colour you think your hair is. Go with that. Nobody else but you cares what colour your hair is anyway.

Reddy blonde or strawberry blonde.

I don’t think yours is “mousey”. I think of mousey as more like dark browny dark blonde with brown streaks/light brown with blonde streaks- like my daughter’s.

Edited

Yeah it's quite a lot lighter than your daughters hair, (which looks lovely BTW and super glossy). I thought it was similar in tone though (just lighter), whereas apparently it has red tones.

I’m sticking with strawberry blonde with some brown hair underneath that hasn’t seen the sun and some greys too. Overall if I had to say one colour I’d say strawberry blonde. The same answer I gave to the first photo.

I’m unsure why you came on here to ask questions about what hair colour you have only to argue with people when they answer with their opinions. It seems pointless.

summater · 16/08/2026 20:18

This thread is bizarre, OP knows what colour her hair is and is quite insistent but starts a thread asking what colour it is.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 16/08/2026 20:18

I’d call it light brown so I must have an inferior phone, bad lighting, failing eyesight or all three.

lovingthebeachlife · 16/08/2026 20:18

i see more blonde in the 2nd photo but still red undertones

YosoyEduardo · 16/08/2026 20:20
