Making myself fat

I'm so angry with myself. I lost quite a bit of weight. I cut food right down. I have barely lost anything for months now. Which I don't understand since I'm 100% sure i haven't gone over. But apparently its normal. The thing is it hasn't picked up again.

Over the weekend me and DD spent a weekend together just me and her. It involved eating things I wouldn't normally. Because we were eating out. And just grabbing stuff. Before I done that i was 9st 3 Pounds . I'm now 9st 7 Pounds. Because I was a prick with food. Its now going to take ages to loose that again regardless of how much I cut down. My metabolism has slowed so everything I ate probably didn't burn off and turned to pure fat.

It probably sounds silly. But for me it now feels like I'm closer to 10 stone than 9st. And I already know I'm struggling to loose. But yet I still ate in a way that was going to make it worse.

If your loss had stalled and you had a good weekend with your dd eating what you fancied it will probably do you good!

Instead of doom and gloom go in with a fresh plan. It’s not starting again, it’s adapting to your new weight (not the weekend weight, you’ll likely find that’s gone in a few days!).

Recalculate your macros. Make a new realistic plan. Something that gives you the loss you want but without making you miserable.

I wish I was your weight op - enjoy the food, like others have said your body would regulate the excess - drink lots of water and flush the excess out of your body.

Viperregency · 12/08/2026 15:26

I also think there is a signficant underlying issue here, as the op is not behaving rationally. And no one should be saying it’s fine.

shes clearly not gained four pounds of fat but even if she had, it’s removable in a couple of weeks. At least two pounds of that will be water weight. If not more, as carbs and salt make us store more water.

Becuriousnotjudgemental1980 · 12/08/2026 15:27

You probably just need a big poop.

thenightsky · 12/08/2026 15:51

Same. Went on holiday for a week at 11st 1 pound. Came home to find I was 11st 8lb. That was in June and its taken me until this week to lose that excess. Bloody infuriating. I didn't even go crazy on holiday and skipped lunches so I could eat a small dessert after dinner and have a couple of cocktails.

Fat doesn’t make you fat. Sugar makes you fat

A calorie excess makes you fat. Diets should include some fats and some carbs for health, but eating fat to excess will contribute to weight gain.

I had a weekend well 3 days of eating out and drinking lots alcohol. Put on 9lb in 3 days.. it went back down by the following 2 weeks back to my normal.. its salty foods etc.

Trying to be patient and tell myself OP has issues, but really, this is a coming across as a self-indulgent thread. What do you want, OP? For us all to reassure you you're not fat? You're not. But for goodness' sake, you need to fix your attitude towards weight before your daughter starts thinking the same way.

I haven't post on the thread for over 3hrs.

But no if that was the case I could have just posted a picture.

Theres not always a want. It can be sounding of. Being angry with myself expressing it. That doesn't mean i have to want something.

If I say things ,ask things thats me making sense of things. It doesn't mean I'm dismissing what people say.. most replies have been helpful in some way. Weather its allowed me say what I'm thinking. Even if it doesn't make sense to other's . Or things that i can try.

In simple terms i was angry with myself and I was expressing it.

You went out, had a few foods with salt in them and a bit more in the way of carbs than usual. This means your body holds on to a bit more water and there's probably a bit more moving through your digestive system.

Actually going out and moving more for a weekend works the muscles and, in order to heal, they hold on to a little bit more water, especially if you've also been doing a lot of physical stuff in the week leading up to that as well.

You've then come back to warmer weather and are likely not drinking a great deal of water or consuming foods with a higher water content, like vegetables.

Add into that you're perimenopausal and your periods are likely to be a bit over the place, so you could be due on, which also makes it more likely to have a bit of water retention.

Whilst doing some form of exercise is important, especially when dieting (never mind what sounds like it was crash dieting), that doesn't mean you need to go out and buy a bunch of weights on top of any other large exercise equipment you already have. Just moving is enough to start with.

I want to add to that 4lbs is just over a quarter of a stone, not half, and digital scales can show a different weight within a minute of standing on them due to them being moved, needing charging, you standing on them slightly differently or just absolutely randomly.

Odds are if you wait until Monday or next Wednesday to stand on them again, if you eat the way you normally do - which does not mean fasting - it'll be back to the usual number, as your muscles will have healed, you won't have so much salt intake, you'll have had some sleep and been to the toilet a few times and you may have had your period start. And if it doesn't next week, carry on doing the same and it'll be the week after that.

There is no benefit in having a go at yourself about a tiny fluctuation that will probably be gone before the Bank Holiday Weekend.

This thead is unreal.
It's one thing to worry about one's weight if it's impacting health in a negative way.
Obsessing over putting on a few pounds? Seriously worrying .

My understanding is that OP has posted before and has a very unhealthy relationship with food due to having lost a lot of weight and fear of regain.

It seems they are spiralling a bit. Is this correct, OP?
