Making myself fat

Tomuchyum · 12/08/2026 08:57

I'm so angry with myself. I lost quite a bit of weight. I cut food right down. I have barely lost anything for months now. Which I don't understand since I'm 100% sure i haven't gone over. But apparently its normal. The thing is it hasn't picked up again.

Over the weekend me and DD spent a weekend together just me and her. It involved eating things I wouldn't normally. Because we were eating out. And just grabbing stuff. Before I done that i was 9st 3 Pounds . I'm now 9st 7 Pounds. Because I was a prick with food. Its now going to take ages to loose that again regardless of how much I cut down. My metabolism has slowed so everything I ate probably didn't burn off and turned to pure fat.

It probably sounds silly. But for me it now feels like I'm closer to 10 stone than 9st. And I already know I'm struggling to loose. But yet I still ate in a way that was going to make it worse.

But my weight lose has litterly stopped. So I can't see how i would loose it.

So has mine. Hit 176lbs and have basically sat there for a year, a couple of lbs higher or lower day by day. But if I go on holiday for a week, put on 7lbs, that 7lbs comes back off again within a fortnight and I'm sat on 176lbs again

What’s the point in being angry with yourself? It won’t change anything.

Feelings don't solve anything but we all have them. None of them change anything.

How tall are you?

How tall are you OP? What’s your BMI? Is it realistic for you to lose anymore weight?

I'm definitely not under weight. I'm still ok to loose more

I don’t mean “underweight”. For me to be underweight I’d need to be 7.5 stone. In reality, Anything under 9 just isn’t realistic in both achievement and maintenance. What I mean is, what are you trying to achieve and is it a realistic goal for you to get there and stay there without depriving yourself for the rest of your days or being stressed every time yourself go a little and see a few extra pounds on the scale? Unless you are very very short 9.7 is in no way “fat”

Not possible to gain over the weekend. It's water weight.

Agreed. Weight fluctuates all the time. I wouldn't worry about it!

Gribouille · 12/08/2026 10:41

You can't 'anger' the weight off... in fact, raising your own cortisol that way will make your frightened body cling to weight even more... (science!) 👩‍🔬

How about you focus on the lovely weekend you had spending time with your DD? (And by next weekend you will have peed off all this water weight anyway)...

Srsly - I read about a therapist who was helping a woman who'd been overweight for 20 years. She asked her 'How have you been trying to lose weight?' The woman said that she called herself a fat, greedy pig who should be ashamed of herself etc... The therapist said 'And has this worked so far?' And the woman was dumbfounded to realise that it hadn't - when she started cherishing herself at any weight, she felt happier and started eating instinctively and got a lot healthier...

Edited

Ffs now I can't even safely express anger/frustration without getting fat.

We did have a lovely weekend. But now I have to deal with my mess up .

😐 me being neutral .

If weight loss is stalling then maybe look at trying to boost your metabolism - best way to do that is to lift weights. If you don't have time for the gym then get some dumbells and find an online workout to do at home. Muscle burns fat long after you have finished exercising.

LapinR0se · 12/08/2026 11:04

OP clearly doesn't want to disclose her height so stop asking her!

Juicybb · 12/08/2026 11:05

Tomuchyum · 12/08/2026 10:18

How can it not be possible?

Because 1 pound = 3500 calories.

4 pound =14,000 calories. So to gain 4 pounds of fat you’d have to have eaten 14,000 calories PLUS your daily maintenance calories. So if your maintenance is say 1500 you’d have have to have eaten 20,000 calories across the weekend.

Is it physically possible? Yes, but you’d have to have been none stop eating and you’d be so uncomfortably full you wouldn’t even want to eat.

Most likely you’ve retained water from the sodium of eating things you wouldn’t usually eat. You’ve probably gained 2 pounds. Go back to what you were eating before and weigh yourself at the weekend and see where you’re at.

If you’ve stopped losing weight you’ve likely been eating at your maintenance calories. Your metabolism gets slower the less you weigh.

I don't understand why the weight stops coming of though. Apparently its normal. If that was the case how are there under weight people.

Would metabolism boost loosing again?

It's mainly just water! Salty food makes you retain liquid.

I can easily be a kilo heavier in the evening than in the morning. Just from eating normally.

Just get back to your usual healthy habits and it will go down again.

I ate shit all weekend everything was fried. Then crisps, cakes, sweets. Just total crap.

Mate, it's not normal to be this angry about temporarily putting on a few pounds, and being obsessed with a number of a scale. It's meaningless. You have a BMI of 21.5. It is disordered thinking, whether you recognise it or not.

Outwiththenorm · 12/08/2026 11:11

I’m 5’6 as well Op, and 9 stone is my ideal weight, but I’ve got to accept I haven’t been that since my 20s and I’ve plateaued around 9.6/7, similar to you. The last few pounds are really hard to get rid of as you said and I’ve read about your body just settling at one weight when you get older. Perimenopause and time of the month can also be responsible for weight going up and down so keep track of your cycle maybe?

On the plus side I lost about a stone last year due to illness and while my stomach was flat, my face looked wrinkly and awful! So you can’t have it all.

(Posting before people come on to tell you that you’re underweight/ have eating disorder.)

FeralFucker · 12/08/2026 11:12

Mate, if you can, go for a walk, walk a bit more than you usually do and you will lose that extra bit of weight. Being angry will make you hungry.

AmberLime · 12/08/2026 11:14

I returned from a 10 day all-inclusive holiday on Sunday. I over-ate. Pre-holiday I was 10st 6.5lb. I'm 5ft 4, 49yo and menopausal. Aiming for 9st, 10st 4 to go below BMI25

● Monday AM weight: 11st 3.5 (+10lb in 10 days)
● Monday diet: Fasted the whole day, aside from milk in my coffee
● Tuesday (yesterday) AM weight: 10st 11.5 (-5lb in 24h)
● Tuesday diet: Less than 800 calories and protein only.
● Wednesday (today) AM weight: 10st 10 (6.5lb in 48h)

I recognise that this rapid weight gain and loss is to do with water and salt levels.

I also acknowledge that I ate too much on holiday, ate the wrong kinds of foods, and drank too much alcohol and sugar-laiden cocktails. I damn well enjoyed doing that! Its OK to indulge. I can acknowledge the consequences without berating myself and then face them positively.

Why are you so harsh on yourself @Tomuchyum? You don't need to be.

No one else will notice the extra few pounds you gained. So no one is judging you apart from your inner-voice. You are already a healthy weight, so this means you are looking after your body well despite the small gain. You could choose to speak to yourself more positively.

PeterRabbitsWhiskers · 12/08/2026 11:19

Tomuchyum · 12/08/2026 10:47

If it was a friend it would be different because most people talk to themselves differently compared to talking to friend.

Why? Why would you be kinder to a friend than you are to yourself? This is at the heart of your problems, your lack of self esteem.

Just because something is normal doesn’t mean it happens exactly the same for everyone.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 12/08/2026 11:27

9st odd and you're being dramatic over a couple of lbs?
Try being in perimenopause and over 12 stone, constantly hungry and if you even blink at a chip put weight on.

Nameynamechange21 · 12/08/2026 11:28

Why is everyone STILL in this day and age going on about weight and numbers in pounds when it’s your composition that both keeps you healthy and makes your figure look good.

Take measurements, figure out your muscle to softer bits ratio and ideal composition and throw your bloody scale away. Job done
