Making myself fat

Tomuchyum · 12/08/2026 08:57

I'm so angry with myself. I lost quite a bit of weight. I cut food right down. I have barely lost anything for months now. Which I don't understand since I'm 100% sure i haven't gone over. But apparently its normal. The thing is it hasn't picked up again.

Over the weekend me and DD spent a weekend together just me and her. It involved eating things I wouldn't normally. Because we were eating out. And just grabbing stuff. Before I done that i was 9st 3 Pounds . I'm now 9st 7 Pounds. Because I was a prick with food. Its now going to take ages to loose that again regardless of how much I cut down. My metabolism has slowed so everything I ate probably didn't burn off and turned to pure fat.

It probably sounds silly. But for me it now feels like I'm closer to 10 stone than 9st. And I already know I'm struggling to loose. But yet I still ate in a way that was going to make it worse.

Honestly if you consumed an average of 10k cals a day, then of course you’d have gained weight, I cannot understand your reaction

because that’s serious binge levels of eating, thays actually videos I’ve watched on social media of body builders trying to consume 10k cals in a day, it’s so much food, did your daughter not say anything.

tnis isn’t just having crisps, cake chocolate etc, this is extreme bingeing.

if you didn’t do that, then you’ve not gained 4lbs and it’s just water weight.

I'm so confused. I don't understand this at all. I definitely gained 4 pounds between Friday to Monday.

I definitely haven't eaten how you seem to be saying.

Maybe I should stop altogether I'm clearly f#*king up.

But as everyone is saying to you, unless you have eaten as that poster described then you haven’t gained 4lbs. It’s water weight, not fat, and will come off over the next few days. Do you understand what posters are saying?

Happyjoe · 12/08/2026 12:19

You are obsessing unhealthily.

Besidemyselfwithworry · 12/08/2026 12:20

I read the title and thought it was going to say you were 25st and couldn’t stop eating!!!

you had a nice time with your daughter and had some treats. Nobody is going to die and it’s only afew pounds. It’ll come off again I really wouldn’t be worked up about this.

Jellybunny98 · 12/08/2026 12:20

Tomuchyum · 12/08/2026 12:10

I'm not sure what the lowest calorie intake is ok.

Move more then. 10k steps, if you’re doing 10k start aiming for 12k. If you currently do one gym session a week start doing 2 or 3. Increase movement to increase the deficit, you don’t just have to cut food.

Tomuchyum · 12/08/2026 12:21

RumPidgeon · 12/08/2026 11:59

The way you’re going about losing weight is destroying your metabolism. I despair with anyone who attempts to lose weight by just cutting down on food to the bare minimum. Calories aren’t just calories - you should count macros to ensure you hit the right targets for each of the main food groups (protein, carbs, fat).

You also need to exercise regularly to build muscle and retain independence in old age.

Also: 4lbs is absolutely nothing! Please don’t obsess like this and teach your daughter bad habits.

Edited

Someone up thread mentioned metabolism so I will look at that

The poster i quoted. I don't understand at all. I'm reading it that I have ate way more than I'm saying and I'm lying to myself. Because to gain 4 pounds I would have had to eat a massive amount. So the fact i have gained 4 pounds must mean. I'm badly messing up.

Well i must have eaten much more then and loaded with calories and fat. Carbs and god knows what else.

Fat doesn’t make you fat. It’s the carbs. Stop eating them and you’ll lose no problem.

In order to gain 4lbs of fat you would have had to have eaten approximately 18-20k calories. That is a lot of food, and it’s very unlikely that you did eat that many.
It is very unlikely therefore that you have gained 4lbs of fat. The 4lbs that you can see on the scales is likely to water weight, caused by more carbs/salt/sugar than usual. This will come off by itself when you go back to your usual diet.
Does that made sense?

I don't normally eat them. Obviously I did this weekend but that was my mess up..

What your not getting is that your weight fluctuates slightly based on more than just what you've eaten.

If I go out drinking, I weigh more the next morning. Yes, some of that is calories that have become fat, but some of it is the sheer amount of beer in my body. It's gone within a few hours, because I've peed it out.

DP regularly puts on about 4lbs during her period that magically vanishes again afterwards. Again, it's not fat.

I can lose a lb or two just from having a big poo.

Worrying about tiny changes in your weight like this is unhealthy. Yes, you ate a bit of crap on holiday. It's not the end of the world. Just get back on the horse and start eating healthily again, and it'll come back off

SJM1988 · 12/08/2026 12:36

EdinaTheConfessor · 12/08/2026 10:00

You won’t have gained 4lb of fat in one weekend, it will be water weight from the overindulgence and will drop off again after a couple of days being back on the straight and narrow (I speak from experience as someone who is very strict with my diet during the week then let loose a bit more at the weekends)

100% this.

Its normal to fluctuate even quite a lot after a weekend away indulging. it can sometimes take people a few weeks to lose it esp if you are already on the lower end of weight and had a stall in weight loss anyway.

Stop being angry at yourself, it wont help your cortisol levels which will make you retain the weight. Just refocus and get back on it. Life is sometimes about enjoying the moment and refocusing and dealing with it later.

Feelings don't solve anything but we all have them. None of them change anything.

You are creating the feeling though so stop creating it. You are catastrophising.

Everyone does that surely?

No, they don't. Which is why I said it is at the heart of your problems here.

You weigh about the same as I do. But I am shorter. I am also perimenopausal. Although BMI is a blunt tool, you are at the lower middle of healthy for your height. You are objectively not fat. The negative self talk is what is convincing you that you are.

Stop fixating on a number on a scale. Start being nicer to yourself.

Would metabolism boost loosing again?

Yes - I lost 10kg by doing weights and eating more protein and less carbs and fat rather than by counting calories.

Four pounds of fat they mean, no one is saying the scales aren’t showing four pound more . I’ve put on and lost three pounds this week, no idea why but it can’t be fat can it?!

You're not starting over though. You've lost over 4 stone. This is 4lbs. It's a tiny amount

Weight loss is hard. Keeping that weight off is harder. But in order to do it you need to accept that sometimes your weight will go up, and that it's not a failure when you do.

When this happens, you can do one of two things. You can either go "Well I've failed", and give up. Or you can say "I enjoyed my holiday, and all the nice food, now time to get my arse back in gear so I can enjoy the nice food again in the future"

Yeah it’s tough. If you want to lose the weight it does take some kind of discipline, whether you are ‘old fashioned’ dieting or on WLIs.

Kind of. But its still double my normal. Every morning i weigh and binbthen evening I'm 2 pound more. Next morning its to pound lighter and that's my normal.
4 pound is getting close to half a stone. The scales still go up regardless of weather its water food or whatever. When people go to weight watchers they either have a loss or gain. Its not looked into what it could be.

OP posts:
Iwouldlikesomecake · 12/08/2026 12:47

You’re not listening to the posters who have explained that yes ‘the weight of your human form has increased on the scale but you have not put on 4lb of fat’.

OP what do you think scales are weighing? They are weighing everything you put on them and that includes: bones, ligaments and tendons, organs, water, blood, digestive contents, your clothes, and… fat!

if you eat lots of sugary/salty things your body tends to hang on to water. This has a weight value. As your body recovers and you excrete the extra water (via wee etc) your ‘total weight’ goes down.

If you weighed yourself wearing a massive overcoat you wouldn’t think you’d suddenly gained a load of fat. This is the physiological version of that. You have not ‘got fat’ from one weekend of eating less mindfully.

It’s double your normal because you ate more salt/carbs/sugar than usual, which has meant you have retained more water than usual. That weight will come off quickly when returning to your usual diet.
Yes the scales are up regardless. But if it’s water weight it will come off far quicker than if it is fat.

I was the exact same I went on holiday at 9st 3 came back 9 stone 9!!! And I was eating so healthy and trying to be good. Obviously all the sugar in the drinks 🙄🙄🙄
