Making myself fat

Tomuchyum · 12/08/2026 08:57

I'm so angry with myself. I lost quite a bit of weight. I cut food right down. I have barely lost anything for months now. Which I don't understand since I'm 100% sure i haven't gone over. But apparently its normal. The thing is it hasn't picked up again.

Over the weekend me and DD spent a weekend together just me and her. It involved eating things I wouldn't normally. Because we were eating out. And just grabbing stuff. Before I done that i was 9st 3 Pounds . I'm now 9st 7 Pounds. Because I was a prick with food. Its now going to take ages to loose that again regardless of how much I cut down. My metabolism has slowed so everything I ate probably didn't burn off and turned to pure fat.

It probably sounds silly. But for me it now feels like I'm closer to 10 stone than 9st. And I already know I'm struggling to loose. But yet I still ate in a way that was going to make it worse.

I'm so confused. I don't understand this at all. I definitely gained 4 pounds between Friday to Monday.

I definitely haven't eaten how you seem to be saying.

Maybe I should stop altogether I'm clearly f#*king up.

By stepping on the scales and seeing a 4.pound on does not mean it's a fat gain it will be water weight gain !!

Londonmummy66 · 12/08/2026 12:41

Yes - I lost 10kg by doing weights and eating more protein and less carbs and fat rather than by counting calories.

Normally. I wouldn't eat crisps, cake, bread, rice, pasta potatoes products.
Everything i eat is low calorie and fat. And I make sure its heigh protein.

I will get some weights thank you.

Re your last post- so you DO understand but you’re more focussed on getting the scale to say the smallest number possible rather than genuinely looking at what’s making up your body composition.

If this is the case I would suggest doing no exercise and eating as little as possible to ensure you have no muscle mass… except I’d never suggest that because it’s so bad for you! Do you not see that it is more important for you to be healthy than just ‘weigh as little as possible’ and that making different food choices for one singular weekend doesn’t make you ‘unhealthy’?

You also can’t spot reduce fat. So you may find you still have ‘fat on your tummy’ even at a low weight if you are perimenopausal.

I think you’re just messing with people now which you might think is funny put is hugely disrespectful of their time and people with eating disorders.

I am just replying and saying whats in my head.

I am not finding anything funny I'm really not.

If anyone feels like this then I'm sorry I have made people feel like that it wasn't my intention.

Kind of. But its still double my normal. Every morning i weigh and binbthen evening I'm 2 pound more. Next morning its to pound lighter and that's my normal.
4 pound is getting close to half a stone. The scales still go up regardless of weather its water food or whatever. When people go to weight watchers they either have a loss or gain. Its not looked into what it could be.

And this is one of the reasons for Weightwatchers being an evil pile of shit!

I think you need to stop weighing so frequently and shift your focus onto non scale victories. Can you fit into a pair of jeans more comfortably, do you stop getting out of breath walking up stairs, are you using an inhaler less frequently, are you sleeping better, is your skin clearing up, can you lift heavier weights in the gym etc.

Weighing super frequently (are you weighing twice a day?!) only helps if you are marking it on a graph through something like myfitnesspal - this will help you to see that it's not linear, that there are blips and as long as you're carrying on eating well and moving your body, that general trend will still be dropping.

Life is full of trade offs. It's very rarely possible for everything to be perfect all at once. Maybe I'm just less competent than other people, but I find it very difficult to keep all my balls in the air spinning all at once. So I tend just to focus on doing one thing well or enjoying one thing at a time, while letting everything else go by the wayside. Then I pick those things up a bit later.

So you eased off and had a good weekend with your DD. Sounds like a win to me. Investing in family relationships and spending quality time with your kids can never be a bad thing. And now that's over, you can focus on the other things that will help you feel good like exercise and eating well, and try to have fun while doing them.

MageKing · 12/08/2026 13:10

I have not lost nearly as much weight as you. And very irritatingly, I seem to have plateaued having lost 10kg, but I'm still at 75.2 kg so I still have 10-15 to go.

I went on holiday for 5 days. I came back, and I was at 76.6kg. I was very upset but I knew that the "new" weight would come off quite easily. And it did. I'm now back (10 days later) to 75.2kg. But Who knows when I'm going to start shifting the next bit. I'm conscious I probaby need to kick start something in my body or go up a level with my WLI.

But th epoint is that the 1.5kg of holiday weight disappeared quickly, even though I'm not back to where I was before and it's stopped again.

I have no idea what you are talking about. But please see posts where people have spoken about metabolism and weighs. Discussion doesn't mean advice is not taken.

I mean, you've responded to sweet FA that I've contributed to this thread so I'm tempted to side with PatNoodle on this one.

I haven't said how much. I just said what the food items were. Yes I'm angry with myself . Yes i messed up Its my own fault I choose it. But yes I'm angry with myself.

No use crying over spilt milk. What's done is done.

Stop punishing yourself over and over again for one mistake. Give yourself permission to stop being angry with yourself, it really is not helping you at all.

HelenDenver · 12/08/2026 13:39

Water retention is driven by salt, carbs and alcohol, plus you may have a little more undigested food in you than usual if your body isn't used to the food you ate on hols.

You said yourself that you fluctuate by 2lb when not in holiday mode, so this is only another 2lb.

You have basically two stores of energy in your body: fat and glycogen. Glycogen is stored in your muscles and liver, and this is what people call water weight. A carb molecule binds with 3 water molecules. This is your "fast access" energy and you store it when you eat carbs and drink water. You can store up to around 6 pounds of energy in this way but not long term and you can't accumulate more. It's not fat. It's literally a second energy system. You accumulate and lose it very quickly because burning 1 gram of glycogen also burns the 3-4 grams of water.

If you’ve not eaten like that then it’s water weight due to increased carbs and salt.

imagiantwitch · 12/08/2026 14:22

I would recommend weight training. You need to build some muscle up, which in turn will help your body naturally burn more calories day to day.

Mate, it's not normal to be this angry about temporarily putting on a few pounds, and being obsessed with a number of a scale. It's meaningless. You have a BMI of 21.5. It is disordered thinking, whether you recognise it or not.

I don't think it's disordered to want to lose weight and be frustrated with oneself after a weekend of unhealthy eating. A bit obsessive, maybe, but being on a diet means being obsessed with what you're eating. Plenty of people look better with a lower than BMI and if she wants to go from a medium BMI to a lower, but still healthy one, that's fine.

You think it’s normal for someone to say they’re fat with a BMI of 21.5 and that they’re “starting from scratch” when “scratch” was 4 stone heavier just because they’ve put a few lbs on despite being told in numerous different ways that that’s not how it works. If not disordered it’s ridiculously obtuse. I understand an initial retaliation but this thread has been running for over an hour now and she still hasn’t calmed down. You really shouldn’t be condoning this nonsense.

Yes rhis. The OP and threas title make it clear this person has serious issues.

Being a bit frustrated is normal. Calling yourself fat when objectively you are nothing of the sort is dosprdered and, frankly, offensive.

HelenDenver · 12/08/2026 14:31

Agree with @ojhdddhjs76 - the theme of the posts isn't "ah, crap, I had a blow out weekend and need to get back on track" but more "everything is doomed now"

Gwenhwyfar · 12/08/2026 14:34

"You think it’s normal for someone to say they’re fat with a BMI of 21.5 and that they’re “starting from scratch” when “scratch” was 4 stone heavier"

People talk in an exaggerated way when they're emotional.
We say things like 'I want to die' without being suicidal!

I put on weight over my holiday and I'm really not happy about it either.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/08/2026 14:36

"I think you need to stop weighing so frequently and shift your focus onto non scale victories. Can you fit into a pair of jeans more comfortably, do you stop getting out of breath walking up stairs"

I disagree with this. Changing jeans size takes a lot of time so someone could be gaining/losing quite a lot by the time that's happened.
As you say, weighing regularly is OK if you take an average.

Indeed. But OP posted this at 9am, if she’s still talking at this level of hysteria hours later this is more than an initial emotional response and I think you’re being very irresponsible rationalising it when she’s clearly demonstrating unhealthy thinking.
