Another heatwave on the way, is everyone ready for number five?

Another heatwave coming.
Are we all ready for heatwave number 5.

OP posts:

We soooo need rain. I am further south than the UK and the dry heat and parched vegetation is like a tinderbox.

IntergalacticHamster · 10/08/2026 17:43

Loathe this heat, anything over 18 degrees can do one for me.
I have hyperhidrosis which affects my head. So Heat causes my head to sweat so excessively until it looks like I've been in a boil in a bag situation!
Sweat drips off my hair, eyebrows, it runs into my ears before running out again and down my jaw where it then drips off my chin. It runs down the nape of my neck and down my back.
So, so embarrassing!

WildWindySeascape · 10/08/2026 17:59

I think at this point we should stop calling it heatwaves and just accept this is summer. And then we can prepare for it properly and adapt as needed.

Inthesummertimewhen · 10/08/2026 18:26

@hgor agree and Idiots around here are having BBQs.

I'm loving the weather, a proper summer.

Not bothered about the long tern ramifications then?

What are expecting people to say and do? Feel guilty about enjoying it? Sit in their house tutting and worrying about things outside of their control?

TheBayHorse · 10/08/2026 19:03

We're having a decent summer in the Lakes. Not as cool and damp as northern Scotland (I was near Ullapool in July) and not as hot and parched as the south (I was in London at the end of June).

Lots of dry weather, a bit of rain to keep things green and the temperatures are warm but not hot.

I am considering moving to Northern Canada. Or anywhere I cannot boil to death, that would be a start.

The entire county (Cornwall) is yellow, the trees are dropping their leaves and looking half dead already, the grass playing fields here are mostly dust and the grass practically gone, the dog hates walking on what's left of the grass now because of all the sharp dead plants hidden beneath it all.

I haven't seen a hedgehog in a fortnight when we usually see them every night and I haven't heard an owl in weeks.

Honestly Scotlands much nearer than Canada we are just “up the road” compared to Canada and was 15 at weekend and we are central not even in the highlands!

I remember long hot summers when I was a kid in the 80s so I just associate this weather as how it's meant to be.

Got told off for swearing at Schafernaker earlier. 😂 There’s just no point in watching a forecast if you live in the south!

I too have a dog that hates walking on the crunchy grass. Such a diva.

RampantIvy · 10/08/2026 23:51

I was watching the national weather forecast at the end of the news today and I'm sure it's the first time I have seen the presenter look glum at the thought of yet more hot weather. His face was what you would usually get when yet another rainy day is forecast.

Pray for rain.

My boy says that it hurts his paws 🐶

Yes but that's where my parents live, and..... 🤣

SignsofLife · 11/08/2026 08:51

All I can say is I feel much healthier in the South than in grey chilly Scotland.

To be fair, walk on it yourself for a stretch - the dead plants have a lot of really sharp ends and the thick bases of some of them are really painful if you step on them.

I'm trying to find the last of any green grass to give her some softness underfoot but it's getting harder!

lordbaddingham · 11/08/2026 09:17

We need rain desperately. The poor animals. And how many crops are we losing? Jeremy Clarkson must be tearing his hair out.

bestcatlife · 11/08/2026 09:52

@the80sweregreat I feel the same, I’ve had enough and hope this is the last heatwave. I can’t explain how it affects my mood, but my depression has been so much worse. Felt a lot better last week at 22/23 degrees

isthismylifenow · 11/08/2026 10:38

Can I also moan?

But mine is the opposite problem....(maybe you lot could come and visit me)

I am in an African country ffs. It is now 11.34am, and my real feel on my weather app is -2c. Yes that is a minus there! Actual temperature 0c degrees.

We have the exact opposite problem as most houses do not have any indoor heating. Sometimes it is colder inside the house than outdoors.

We are not used to this. This is very much freak weather hitting us.

And! To top it all off, we were very excited to possibly get some snow. Many people have never seen snow. Have we got any.... no. Sighs.

the80sweregreat · 11/08/2026 10:47

I want to sleep through Thursday , but I can’t currently sleep either ! .. grr

Very much said in jest - she’s the most pampered rescue dog to walk this earth. We too have been searching out the green grass that has been in shade.

Oh I don't at all. I can barely do anything when it's 30° plus. I've been in Scotland for the last two weeks and have enjoyed all 4 seasons. Sometimes in one day! 😂 Lovely where I am today and comfortable enough to walk and actually do something without sweating like a pig.

socks1107 · 11/08/2026 13:23

London is a perfect summers day today! Dreading Thursday but looking ahead it cools down so I’m holding onto that

AutumnMuse · 11/08/2026 14:29

I’ve got unfinished tasks, but I can’t focus in this heat. It’s really getting me down. Everything is so dry outdoors and my hair’s become coarse, with dry skin too. Peri is making it even harder, like it’s double the trouble. Honestly, I can’t wait for autumn!

Which country is this?

South Africa.
Johannesburg and the interior are bitterly cold right now.

I have never known minus temperatures in the day.
