Another heatwave coming.
Are we all ready for heatwave number 5.

4 days in a row 31 plus here! The office is unbearable. No air con, windows only on one side of the building so no air flow. Not able to plug fans in as an open plan office where only allowed to plug into direct wall sockets. (Approx 28 out of over 100 desks). Not looking forward to this one as in the office all week

I like your description!

When I'm WFH this week I will definitely describe it as 'the seventh circle of hell' 😂

It's from Dante Alighieri’s 14th-century poem, Inferno. The seventh circle of hell is reserved for the violent...it feels feels quite violent the heat - as if it's assaulting me.

There were 9 circles of hell in the poem and i'm sure many others are just as appropriate 😃🤣

MyPlumHelper · 10/08/2026 01:19

Nope I was right - seventh circle of hell is the most appropriate - violence against God/nature (roaming a burning desert under a rain of fire).

Basically exactly what this heatwave feels like.

Anything over 25 degrees was a no no for me. I used to not do much. But I must have acclimatised. I am active in the early 30s now. It’s just weather. It will pass. Although I do think long after I have gone the earth will be unbearably hot. And nothing will have been done about it.

Houseofdrums · 10/08/2026 02:15

Rain would be nice. I really want rain.

I actually like that we have had a consistent summer but our houses are just not built for this weather and neither is so much of our infrastructure.

Think I’m used to it at the moment. But I said it would be nice if we could have rain once a week.

Finally some good weather and I have the week off work. I have worked so many days and hours and had to deal with the heatwave in office clothing so I cannot wait to actually enjoy the sun, wear proper sun clothes 😀

Me too! Looking forward to spending a week at home in my garden and enjoying the sunshine this time!

narcASD · 10/08/2026 02:42

I'm in the SE and it's been too hot to do much, I can't sleep and have no energy for anything, kids finding it hard too as it's been too hot for the outdoor activities we had planned, due to be 34 on Thursday and I'm done with it.

the80sweregreat · 10/08/2026 05:44

It’s making me depressed. I can’t bear it

limetrees32 · 10/08/2026 07:12

I hear you @the80sweregreat .
The heat makes it impossible to carry out more than the basic tasks .
I so want to do stuff in the garden/wilderness but just don't have the energy.
Feeling hot and sticky and bored is not conducive to feeling happy.

socks1107 · 10/08/2026 07:30

I feel quite anxious about the week ahead. Wfh is hot and miserable, the office is not air conditioned nor is my train and as for the tube!! I can’t get out for my lunch time walk as I end up feeling sick so in all honesty the week is right off. In the SE it feels like we’ve had no break from it. Summer has been lovely but when you can’t get away from the heat it’s starting to feel very claustrophobic

Thecows · 10/08/2026 09:36

fryfryfry · 09/08/2026 16:16

It’s not a heatwave, it’s just summer. We’re in summer.

There's always one.....go on, throw in 1976 just for good measure ...

Greedybilly · 10/08/2026 09:55

I mean obviously the planet is burning and we've got our heads in the sand.
Good for getting washing dry tho if we need to be positive.

Yep. Have washed loads of curtains and the sofa cushion covers this year.

I feel the pain for the Londoners and southerners though. It has been hot here in Yorkshire but it is nothing like being in a city with no breeze.

Tbh, I’ve just classed it as one heatwave since end of May because there’s not been much relief from it where I live. We had one day with thunderstorms end of June and then a bit of rain the other morning but was still bloody boiling after. Anything over 23 is a heatwave for me 😊

I agree. 13 weeks without rain here and one long continuous period with temps 25 and over.
I’m so sick of it.

Inthesummertimewhen · 10/08/2026 13:29

Woke up to acrid smoke this morning ,several fires from quite some distances seem to have infiltrated the air!
Some utter clueless people are still having BBQ around here.
I'm very worried about fire.

ojhdddhjs76 · 10/08/2026 13:44

I cannot overstate how amazing air con is. The heat waves have barely been on my radar whereas I’d usually be miserable. We only have it in the bedrooms, but I find sleeping is the only time I really struggle (I might have skipped cooking a few days at its worst!). I’ve really enjoyed having a ‘stable’ summer of ongoing dry and warm weather, it’s made such a change to most years.

I am, too. There’s an LPG tank just behind my back garden and I lie awake at night worrying about what would happen if the fields around us caught fire.

AnonyMumAuDHD · 10/08/2026 14:26

I don’t want winter, just lots of rain so that I can water my garden without having to remind the neighbour we are exempt (the reasons are my business) and normal temperatures so that I can walk the dogs whenever I want without the risk of heat exhaustion. Perfectly happy with temps of 20-22 and regular showers to keep my flowers in bloom and the pollinating insects and bees happy.

Kate011 · 10/08/2026 14:50

It’s a good idea to put out bowls of water to wildlife!!!

During a heatwave, local wildlife struggles to find drinking water and cooling shade as natural puddles and streams dry up. You can save animals like birds, hedgehogs, foxes, and bees by leaving out shallow bowls of fresh water with stones inside for safe landings.

How to Provide Water

Use shallow dishes placed on the ground for mammals like hedgehogs and foxes.

Add pebbles or twigs inside the water container so bees and insects do not drown.

Change the water daily to keep it clean and stop the spread of bird diseases.

let some of your garden grow wild to provide shade for animals. Wilder areas in the garden will provide shade and shelter for a wide range of wildlife, so don't be too tidy.

the80sweregreat · 10/08/2026 14:51

Even though I’m a hot weather hater, rain overnight would be fine. But we are not getting that either at the moment are we.

We did last night, but not enough to make a difference.

the80sweregreat · 10/08/2026 15:03

Not a drop where I live , we need rain so badly.

For the first time in my life (I’m in my 60s) I’ve become a prepper, due to this endless heat. I, too, live in an area that is at risk from fire so a couple of weeks ago I set aside a case with my essentials and another one for the animals. I have an indoor cat so I even bought a small crate and spare litter tray so that I could keep him safe if we were evacuated to a church hall or some such.

squirrelchops2 · 10/08/2026 17:14

I'm loving the weather, a proper summer.
