I'm done with it, and I'm in NW England.
We're just about to head to Scotland on holiday though which is great timing! Very happy this is the year we chose to have a Scotland holiday!

How??? We are on the coast in the NW and have had a few warm days but no consistent heatwave yet.

This is apparently the 5th one (first 4 didn't materialise). It was 26 today and we are forecast 28, 27, 21 then back to our normal 17-18. That's not a heatwave in my book no matter how much the BBC tries to scare me with all their doom and gloom!

the80sweregreat · 11/08/2026 20:07

It’s been awful here without the rain. I was watching an old drama set in 2022 and it was pouring down in a few scenes.
made me feel nostalgic for the moisture and the grass and the plants and everything need a weeks of it now and the farmers !

ojhdddhjs76 · 11/08/2026 20:09

I was looking up photos from 2 years ago and I was wearing jeans and a jumper in August, I literally can’t remember when I last wore jeans, I think maybe May? A jumper will be even longer!

the80sweregreat · 11/08/2026 20:25

The May heatwave ( hell week ) was awful. I am dreading Thursday , but it’s a day and hopefully it’ll cool down a lot by the weekend.
I live in hope anyway !

AutumnMuse · 11/08/2026 21:06

I’m dreading Thursday too.. Let’s hope it’s cooler by the weekend.

The planet is dying.

Sadly it is very worrying but as long as they got their summer eh? Not enough people are sufficiently concerned for us to be able to try and mitigate it, and this will always be problematic while so many think it’s “the best summer ever “😢

Neuronimo · 11/08/2026 22:04

We've changed a celebration to breakfast Friday and it's still going to be bloomin' hot! Roll on next week.

SmugglersHaunt · 11/08/2026 22:09

Just heard it could be 38 in London on Thursday. God I wish this summer would fuck right off

the80sweregreat · 11/08/2026 22:12

Thursday is going to be grim.
It’s not too bad tonight. I hope I can get some sleep for a change !

Heatwave has an actual definition.
Climate change is actually happening .

It's not the BBC's fault because they report on it.🙈🤯🤯🤯

Are you one of those people who think if it isn't happening to them personally, it isn't happening at all?🤔

canuckup · 12/08/2026 02:32

It's absolutely insane.

Freezing in South Africa, 37 in London!

20 years ago I remember being in Western Australia and it was 37, near Broome. It was the hottest I'd ever experienced.

And now it's that temp in London.

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 03:40

I miss English summers of old ( not 76 !)
Didn’t start until July , Rained a lot and thunderstorms and a mix of some nice days and then not !
This is just unnatural and way too hot and we are all literally burning.

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 04:39

Hated this summer. It has dragged on and on and been generally awful. Getting washing dry is the only good thing about it.

Have washed curtains and sofa cushion covers this year, so one positive.

Praying for rain.

socks1107 · 12/08/2026 07:38

I’m ready for the next three days now! Once we get over this hopefully it’ll be the last of the over 30s and especially over 35. Tomorrow is going to be a struggle but the weekend for London and the south east looks better.
im working from home the next two days so no tubes and trains and Friday I’ve planned a swim after work which I always look forward too

RedRiverShore6 · 12/08/2026 07:56

I have just nervously washed a dry clean only wool throw, on a cool wash and very low spin, it's turned out fine and it now hanging on the line.

Yeah. I’m outside London and it’s getting hot here too.

You've have been better just hanging it out to air. You will have caused damage you may not notice yet.

Same ! Hated and resented every single second of what I’ve come to calling selfish season. Selfish because it’s collectively our human actions that have caused global warming and because despite all the wildfires, crops failing, businesses like dog walking being affected, people becoming ill, etc, the I’m all right Jack mentality still persists with too many unable to see past their suntan.

It looks no different to before it was washed, even the tassels haven't gone knotty, it's sat on the back of the sofa for about 2 or 3 years so it's only like a decorative sofa protection, even any slight shrinkage doesn't matter, though it looks the same size

RampantIvy · 12/08/2026 09:10

Last lot of curtains are on the line. My house has never been this clean 😁

I am not a cleaning person at the best of times but my house is an absolute tip because it's too hot to do any hoovering even.

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 09:49

Yep: the rich with air con can in their house escape a lot of the heat! I’d be so happy with some especially for tomorrow lol

I wash dry clean only wool all the time in the hand wash cycle on my machine.

Not had a problem yet.

I am convinced manufacturers put the dry clean only tag on just to cover themselves.
