Another heatwave coming.
Are we all ready for heatwave number 5.

I’m in the South East. The heat is making me quite depressed and panicky today. I feel like it’ll never be cold again. I saw a headline the other day of some climate specialist warning that this is just the start and it will get much more extreme in future summers and that’s an unbearable and terrifying thought.

And still people continue to buy stuff they don’t need all the time and get on planes multiple times a year. And still they say ‘But it was hot in 1976!’ and ‘There’s no point me making any effort because China’ (While merrily ordering more Temu plastic shite to be shipped over from China).

What will we do without rain ?
It keeps me awake at night tbh. Which I know sounds a bit too dramatic, but it does

Quite rightly. Lack of rain, soaring food prices due to poor harvests and the cost of oil . It's an absolute disaster. Plus rail tracks buckling due to heat. Very very concerning.

Whosthetabbynow · 14/08/2026 12:52

It’s forecast to still be around 80f in SE London at 9pm tonight. FML. I keep telling the cat I can’t turn the heat down for him. The poor animals. I honestly think the people saying how great it all is are genuinely taking the piss. Trying to be “other”. “I love it I do. The hotter the better”. Oh fuck off mate.

I’m in West Mids and I can’t remember the last day it rained. We were on holiday last week of July and my in laws said it rained one afternoon but that was it. My local fb site have been posting the Stourbridge fire videos - my heart breaks for those families.

Waitingfordoggo · 14/08/2026 13:32

Yes @MrsMurphyIWish, the last rain I can remember where I am was in early June. Apparently there have been two rain showers since then, but they were very much ‘blink and you miss it’- I actually did miss it. According to those who did notice them, they were both light showers that lasted for less than 5 minutes.

I do actually like it and I’m not trying to be “other”

I find the winters very hard as I have SAD.

I do have sympathy for people who struggle with certain temperatures though, because I know what it feels like to have your mental and physical health affected.

I still like the heat though!

the80sweregreat · 14/08/2026 14:47

I do think many have sad in winter and I get the summer version of it , always have done though

socks1107 · 14/08/2026 14:47

Heat health alert extended into tmrw now. Every day they say it’ll get cooler then they move the date again….

the80sweregreat · 14/08/2026 14:51

The weather people are ‘ gas lighting ‘ us
maybe the sun is dying out and they don’t want us to know? .. it’s a conspiracy theory of my own that one though !

Well we all shit ourselves when our phones went off for an alert about fires.

It's raining in Cornwall 💕 north coast, near perranporth. Couldn't be more delighted

Just read someone in a neighbouring town decided to have a bonfire in their garden yesterday, it set light to neighbouring gardens. Luckily it didn't spread to the houses and the fire brigade were very quick.

But what posseses people to even think a bonfire is a good idea when it's like this!

People are dumb as fuck in a lot of cases, this is what happens if you fly off on holiday for the last 60 years and drive your car just because you can, but people will still demand their right to fly twenty times a year and drive everywhere, we have reached a tipping point the planet is fucked, people are too dumb to be in charge of it.

Dumb indeed.

I live near the New Forect. The local FB page has a photo of the car of an imbecile who she’s just seen throwing a cigarette end out of his window onto the very brown and dry verge. 😤 The cars were stationary at the time as there is gridlock around here due to the closure of the A31 because of the fire.

Inthesummertimewhen · 15/08/2026 08:29

@LizzieSiddal we need better public messaging that's rolled out every summer and there has to be a threat of fines...big fines for careless behaviour starting fires.

Inthesummertimewhen · 15/08/2026 08:30

@ForWiseRoseCat if people stated to get arrested for carelesa behaviour it would soon stop.

principalskinna · 15/08/2026 08:37

I live near the New Forest and I'm currently in Edinburgh and there is a 10° difference between the two places. I saw green grass yesterday.!!
the Scots totally unaffected

You’ll laugh, but I remember when cars had ashtrays in them

seawitchandgarden2 · 15/08/2026 15:24

I am on the Kent coast and it is finally cooler today :) with some clouds and a bit of wind.

I still went to the beach and had a lovely swim and it was really nice not to have to deal with the usual heat for once.

Middlemarch123 · 15/08/2026 15:31

Have actually managed to walk doggies at noon rather than 6 a.m. First time for weeks, lovely to stroll around, chat to other dog walkers. Had light rain early this morning, but can’t say it’s fresher, but definitely cooler. Onwards and upwards!

Piggywaspushed · 15/08/2026 15:32

I am sure it is cooler today but I have lost the ability to cope with heat. I was fine on The Canaries but 5 minutes in the sun here and I am literally dripping. Am bored of being too hot and have no coast to escape to. Think it is about 28 today.

Inthesummertimewhen · 15/08/2026 18:23

It's still really really hot today I think the house has the accumulated heat build up .
However there is cloud cover which seems like a change and any change seems good

limetrees32 · 15/08/2026 21:05

Oh god will the cloud hold the heat in ?
We have cloud .

Middlemarch123 · 15/08/2026 21:12

I definitely think that our homes accumulate heat build up @Inthesummertimewhen . And our bodies. Outside temp is 17, cool breeze, gorgeous. Coolest room in my cottage is 23. Bedroom feels too warm. Wanted a night with a duvet on and fan off. Put a hoodie on when I walked doggies at 7pm. It was fresh and lovely. Now with windows open and breeze it’s too warm.

Think by the time home and me cool down to nice temp, the next heatwave will hit and we’ll be back to square one.
