Another heatwave coming.
Are we all ready for heatwave number 5.

I didn't know my body could physically miss rain!

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 11:18

I miss rain too. People moan about it, but without it we are doomed. Big time

I am not a cleaning person at the best of times but my house is an absolute tip because it's too hot to do any hoovering even.

To be fair, in hot weather my last priority is cleaning indoors, but we have had building work and then decorating so not cleaning wasn't an option.

I took advantage of the hot weather to shampoo my carpets and get soft furnishings washed and line dried.

While it has been hot here it has been nothing like London. Saturday was cool and cloudy so DH and I vacuumed the house while it wasn't hot.

Still praying for rain though.

AutumnLover1990 · 12/08/2026 11:40

I'll be glad when it's all over, but worried this is going to be the new normal 😭

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 11:43

What will we do without rain ?
It keeps me awake at night tbh. Which I know sounds a bit too dramatic, but it does

Heatwave has an actual definition.
Climate change is actually happening .

It's not the BBC's fault because they report on it.🙈🤯🤯🤯

Are you one of those people who think if it isn't happening to them personally, it isn't happening at all?🤔

Edited

I don't deny climate change, I have family in London and have visited them recently, but I do deny that BBC figures are accurate in claiming this area needs an amber weather warning!

BBC TV weather forecasts have been predicting this area at 31 for today and tomorrow where even their own online weather service says 28 and 26.

Our experience here is that we are unlikely to even get to that, I just took a thermometer outside and it read 26.5, so the constant misinformation leaves me feeling mildly aggrieved

socks1107 · 12/08/2026 17:49

How are we coping? I managed today, it’s nearly evening so we’re that bit closer to Saturday and a cool down

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 17:55

Not too bad today , but tomorrow I know I’ll be burning up !

The BBC don't issue weather warnings.🙄 The Met Office do. The beeb just reports them.

How??? We are on the coast in the NW and have had a few warm days but no consistent heatwave yet.

This is apparently the 5th one (first 4 didn't materialise). It was 26 today and we are forecast 28, 27, 21 then back to our normal 17-18. That's not a heatwave in my book no matter how much the BBC tries to scare me with all their doom and gloom!

Where exactly are you? I'm in Greater Manchester, it's been over 30 degrees regularly, and humid. Plus we've had moor fires for weeks with horrendous smoke so unable to open windows.
Being on the coast will be helping you too.
Don't dismiss other peoples experiences please, its not all about you.

ForWiseRoseCat · 13/08/2026 09:30

It was 33c yesterday, 36c today and 32c tomorrow. We don't get anything below 26c until next Thursday where I am We have no rain forecast either for god knows how many more days. It feels like Groundhog Day every day.

I still hope we have an epic storm when this all ends and no Indian Summer this year.

I'm surprised the A List celebs haven't hopped on their private jets to preach to us about Global Warming and Climate Change. Maybe Sir Bob Geldof will do us a charity single for Christmas and have Sir David Beckham looking sad with tears rolling down his face as he walks around the dried out reservoirs and ponds.

Same for us, yesterday was bearable, because we opened up the whole house at 5am. I did manage to sleep last night, but not looking forward to tonight. Isn't it weird when 28 degrees feels like a cool day?

How strange! I always thought internet forums were for sharing one's own experiences and thoughts. I stand corrected!

Fallulah · 13/08/2026 13:29

Super warm and sweaty today. But… there is rain in next week’s forecast!

cowasballerina · 13/08/2026 13:55

there is rain in next week’s forecast!

Nah, this a hallucination brought on by the extreme heat today! 😉

the80sweregreat · 13/08/2026 14:27

Yes, I think we shall start having hallucinations over rain and water :(
Hopefully the heavens will open up soon and stay open

LaurieFairyCake · 13/08/2026 14:35

It was 32 where I am in London before 10am. Unbelievable.

Inthesummertimewhen · 13/08/2026 14:42

We seemed to have rain forecast for next week but it's gone 😮.
I just want rain and then I can relax

the80sweregreat · 13/08/2026 14:45

I feel as if I’m just waiting for rain. It’s awful isn’t it
Everywhere looks so dry and dusty.
It’s horrible

Yeah, right. Apparently I have a 12% chance of drizzle at 2pm next Tuesday. Effectively sfa. Then there’s nothing but sunshine to the end of the month with 26-28° and rising at the beginning of September.
I feel like sitting and crying.

Netcurtainnelly · 13/08/2026 14:56

What a lovely day

the80sweregreat · 13/08/2026 14:57

Maybe the government will consider cloud seeding ?
Or they may just be hoping that it rains in September and beyond.

SirChenjins · 13/08/2026 14:57

Mid twenties and cloudy here in Edinburgh today with rain forecast for later, then a couple of dry days, then rain again and back down to the high teens. Sympathies to you all in parts of the UK where you are experiencing high temperatures - not fun.

Alerts are issued by the Met Office and reported by media. The alerts are designed to support planning for local government services rather than the individual.
Heatwave definitions depend on area.

Just got home from school (A-level results day) and burst into tears. I know that sounds pathetic but today reminded me how awful last term was, with no cool days in sight, I’m dreading returning in Sept. Currently sitting with my feet in ice. Can’t even have fan on as it just blows hot air.
