What do you spend your money on that is worth it?

Inspired by a thread on here which was what can you afford but you don’t spend money on..

showed what value people place on “stuff”

so obviously disregarding basic food, health stuff what do you value enough to splurge your hard earned cash on?

A very regular full body massage - highly recommend.

Facials every 4-6 weeks. I like going out for coffee, which I don’t do much currently but used to go about three times a week.
Also food - I like good stuff and will spend more if I think the taste is better. (A friend once stayed with her three kids and left some Tesco value crisps behind - they were disgusting.)
Also when I go out I’m not going to pitch up somewhere just because it’s cheap. My sister was visiting and we were walking around and decided on lunch and she picked a cheap sandwich café - then complained about how awful it was. I’d rather pay more for something decent, or not go at all.
If I sound like money’s no object, while I’m comfortable I don’t go out much and only take holidays every other year (so I can save up). Except for the aforementioned coffees I don’t spend spend spend.

Premium groceries! Most people on our combined salary probably wouldn’t spend on food shopping the way we do, but we spend relatively little on going out drinking, don’t go on really big holidays etc so we feel it’s worth it. We do also splurge on nice restaurants a few times a year.

Haven’t typically spent loads on clothes but both DP and I are now trying to invest in a few nicer pieces to hopefully see us through many years to come too.

veganism.

it's fucking expensive to do well for a foodie like me who doesn't like UPFs and has picky teens.

But every time I see the pictures of how animals actually live in industrial dairy factories, I can't believe we allow this.

I just couldn't go back and unsee it all. And yes, I do despise all of you for refusing to look while liking cute dog instagram posts Wink

Ooooh

  • Tickets to theatre (like the RSC) and athletics (off to Brum on Monday)
  • ££ fragrance I love
  • Expensive makeup and skincare that makes me feel good
  • Coffee at coffee shops, chain or local
  • High thread-count pure cotton bedlinen (obvs only an occasional purchase, but I am sick of the cheap stuff)
  • Pottery bought from the maker (eg at pottery fairs or from a few websites) – this is a sickness, I mean I do use it but I have way too much
  • Lovely silver earrings – the only jewellery I consistently wear
  • Blueberries and strawberries over cheaper fruit options

In contrast tho I buy the cheapest pasta and wine and instant coffee and mayonnaise. My car is the smallest most basic Toyota; my clothes are from Vinted or Marks or Primark; and my phone is a secondhand Samsung that cost about £80.

Holidays…I spend twice as much going to Disney each year than I do on my mortgage (despite overpaying it)

I work to go on holiday, not to survive.

Gosh, good question,

clothes, I love good quality clothes, me and em, Reiss, farm Rio, studio Nicholson etc. I like to always wear nice clothes.

same for shoes and bags

mounjaro, an expensive monthly maintenance plan, but worth it. I now no longer have to worry about my weight, or the health damage it causes if I gain, and maintain a size 8 with ease. And I get rhe additional health benefits in taking it.

make up, namely Victoria Beckham the drops foundation. Makes me look like I’ve flawless glowy healrhy skin, and her concealer.

the cleaner, she comes weekly for a couple of hours and so we don’t need to do anything past keep on top of it daily.

holidays and nights away, I like a bit of luxury when I travel, good hotels, good food, good drinks..

my hair, good hairdresser, good products.

perfume and body lotion, I wear Byredo bal d’afrique.

Experiences, good restaurants, we are booked into 3 different Michelin stars over the next 6 weeks. And to see a west end show.

my late 20s daughter, love her to bits. And happy to support her even though she’s a high earner, with lovely gifts, normally clothes she’d not buy herself or make up, bags or shoes as a treat.

My husband was out the other day and asked if I wanted anything from M&S so I asked if he could get a fancy box of chocolates and the next morning I stayed in bed with a cup of tea and ate them all 🤣 10/10 would do again

My very modified, very asbo car and my horse. They bring me joy and they bring my kids joy. Holidays to interesting places. Making memories. My mum died young and she spent all her life going without so that she could have a good retirement. Cancer got her before she got a chance. Not going to do that, I will make sure I have enough to keep a roof over my babies heads and food in their stomachs and anything left over will go on living our best lives.
