Terrifying to think he has young dc. If this is a mental health episode he could have harmed them too. Did anyone see the livestream?

He's clearly suffering from substance abuse. The lack of sympathy for him is understandable. Embracing and cheering toxicity seems to be the foundation of initial and continued dysfunction. If nothing else, I hope others will learn from his experience. I hate that it's all so graphic and public and is so ironic given how he became (in)famous.

Rumpledandcrumpled · 06/08/2026 08:46

Twonewcats · 06/08/2026 08:35

As Rumpled said, he had only a few minutes with the knife and Stanley thing. A few minutes.
The situation was escalating when the police arrived. The police were seemingly there for four hours.

@Rumpledandcrumpled I've seen people mention a butter knife too, as if to minimise what he did, and using it as an explanation as to why they don't even believe he was cutting himself. But I'm assuming that someone mentioned a bread knife, and that's got changed or lost in translation somewhere.

Yes twitter is awash with it, I think as it’s a serrated bread knife, it’s morphed into a butter knife some how. I also think as he couldn’t feel it people thought it wasn’t real, possibly they are too numbed from violent movies and video games. They saw him mutilate himself and thought well he’s not screaming in pain so it must be fake. They don’t understand what happens when a body is cut deeply and a person is in deep mental crisis with an adrenaline surge.

the screen shot now deleted doesn’t help. It’s all over social media. It shows a moment in time that doesn’t show the full horror of what happened.

to be fair, when it first starts your brain can’t accept what you’re seeing. You sort of freeze, as did those on the call with him, they are asking what he’s doing, before it becomes very apparent exactly what he’s doing.

its also clear many commentators have no idea what actually happened here. The amount of misinformation is off the scale.

He was not killing himself for 3o mins, it was mere mins before it was taken down and the emergency services were inundated with phone calls when it started. It’s the live feed lasted 3o mins. Not the suicide, that was mins and taken down very quickly after it started.

as much as it was distressing to see, I think if I’d only seen the screen shot and read the shite on twitter, I’d also have been misled into thinking this wasn’t a serious, brutal suicide attempt.

Verv · 06/08/2026 10:02

Verv · 05/08/2026 17:08

If you think he was trying to commit suicide then you clearly havent watched the video.
Licking a breadknife while making sexual groaning noises and rubbing blood all over yourself isnt a suicide attempt.
Neither is dragging a breadknife across your belly, chest, lower back and shoulders while saying "yah! Im committing suicideeee" at the people asking him what he was doing - one of which was drinking a massive soda while watching the stream completely unperturbed.

Now tell me again I havent seen the video.
Screen recordings are all over Facebook.

@Rumpledandcrumpled @Twonewcats

I haven’t mentioned a butter knife. You have.

Apparently don’t let facts get in the way when you can fuss over fiction.

How mature. Edited to say, the response you would expect from someone who has no defence. You wanted to whip up more hysteria about a horrible situation and no one has taken you up on it.

Edited

Im not tryiing to whip up any hysteria. I'm thinking of his kids' welfare. Who knows what they have witnessed. You can dismiss their welfare all you want. You're just ridiculous & looking for an argument. Why even bother posting if you have nothing to add?

OP posts:

The screenshot I posted was not from twitter.
It was taken by me from the video in order to apparently put an end to the persistent accusation that because I’m not responding to it in a way that you think i should, I can’t have possibly seen it. There was a mumsnet tab next to it ffs.

Im not posting the link, I’m not posting another screenshot, but it can be found and viewed pretty easily.
Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s a lie, and the fact that you keep warping what’s been said to suit you - eg claiming I’ve said butter vs bread is indicative of your dishonesty rather than mine.

Odd, it’s the exact same moment being posted a million times in twitter, so odd you happened to pick the exact same moment,

Believe me I know all about psychosis.

You are diagnosing psychosis and a threat to others based on a video that you have not even seen.
Even MH professionals would not diagnose someone without seeing them in person.

The real trigger warning on this thread should be about the stigma and misunderstanding that sadly still exists about things like suicide and self harm.

It’s was the least graphic one I could find that showed the woman drinking in the way that I had previously described and didn’t show him full screen so no, not odd at all.

Out of interest, why are you so convinced that I couldn’t possibly have watched a video that is so widely available online?

It’s your comments around it being performative and posting the same image that’s all over social media, you also made multiple erroroneous statements, ie no reference to suicide, that he’d been at it with a knife for 30 mins, etc,

Irrelevant of your inaccuracies, i do not beleive for one moment anyone could watch that man attempt suicide in the horrific way he did and proclaim it to be performative,

I can recognise substance abuse without seeing it first hand or relying on third party confirmation. If you can't, then wait for whatever confirmation you require.

Verv · 06/08/2026 13:37

I haven’t watched the entire live stream, just the video of him with naked with the knife and his actions during that period.
But if he was barricaded in the home alone for the duration of the stream, I still maintain that he could have done what you claim he was attempting to do at any time. But he did not.
This is not rocket science.

And yes, I do think that parading about naked dragging a knife over skin and putting the point to his belly and poking it etc etc while talking to an audience is performative.
Wasn’t a private act, was it?
You might not like it but this is logic rather than emotion.

So can I, my brother was a drug addict, but I also fully recognise that extreme mental health crisis or a manic episode, with the huge Adrenalin surge can look the very same. As such, I suggest it is you who waits. Not the poster you are baiting, before declaring to millions of people he was on drugs.

No, my opinion stands but you're free to disagree. I have my own life experiences where I witnessed family or friends suffer from xyz or x + yz. So, as I said, you wait if you need confirmation. I'm good.

Yes, it seemed like a performative act in the middle of a horrendous psychotic break. He clearly wasn't rational and is extremely unwell, but the sexualised moans were very performative, and most (not all) of the cuts seemed only shallow.

Obviously he was in a terrible state and needed help, but I agree it didn't seem like a serious suicide attempt as he didn't actually do anything that could kill him, despite having the means to. More like 'just' a psychotic break.

He's a horrible person, but for his children's sake, I hope he recovers and sorts out his mental health.

And rhey didn’t look shallow to the people calling the emergency services I assume nor did the people I saw on the video appear to look like they thought it was performative. And from what rhe police, trauma respondents and family are saying they didn’t think it either.

Rumpledandcrumpled · 06/08/2026 13:53

Okay? They did seem fairly shallow to me - or at least, not suicidal. They certainly didn't seem as though they were in danger of killing him, except by lack of treatment leading to infection. Saying he was killing himself on camera is a rather overwrought exaggeration that there isn't any need for. He was doing disturbing, dangerous, mentally unbalanced things on camera and self-harming, but he wasn't in the process of killing himself with those cuts (perhaps he did intend suicide by cop though - who knows?)

Additionally, many things can be performative and still dangerous, irrational, outside of the person's control, and put them in need of immediate help. A person's actions shouldn't be taken any less seriously just because they appear to be being performative!

Yes that I get, and I guess it depends on how you interpret performative. I read it as play acting for the viewers, which this was most certainly not , hence why I object to such a term being used for something so horrifying.

performative normally means an act one puts on for the audience. And this was not that. There was nothing pretend about this. The man was slicing himself open. His neck, his wrists, his face, his body, these were not minor little cuts, these were slashes that sure didn’t kill him but will, leave permanent scars, and it was clear in his confused state he didn’t understand why it wasn’t working,

Twonewcats · 06/08/2026 15:20

"he didn't actually do anything that could kill him, despite having the means to."

  • No, thats right, he didn't, in the short part which was streamed live.

But I don't understand the logic of "the bit we saw doesn't show him trying to kill himself, therefore that can't possibly be what he was ultimately trying to do". We saw him running the knife across his throat, and a lot of the wounds were really bad. Yes, some were "only shallow" (a shallow knife cut is f*ing painful).

He said he wanted to die and wanted the police to shoot him.

Was he supposed to just pick up the knife and immediately kill himself for it to be considered a suicidal mentality/attempt?

I honestly don't know how anyone can see someone in such a devastating, desperate, physically and mentally agonising state (without seemingly even being aware he had very painful wounds) and try to find any sort of rational thinking or explanation in any of it.

"Saying he was killing himself on camera is a rather overwrought exaggeration that there isn't any need for." is a completely baffling comment. He was slicing his skin without screaming in agony - but you think he could rationally decide to "exaggerate" what he was doing/intending on doing? Additionally, do you think him saying that is where it all crossed a line? Your comment makes it seem like you think that him saying he was killing himself is when it all went too far!

I know that you're not diminishing the horrible state he was in mentally, I just can't fathom any comments at all which try to rationalise any of his actions.

HangingOver · 06/08/2026 15:27

Rumpledandcrumpled · 05/08/2026 11:06

What I couldn’t understand was he should have been in absolute agony. But he didn’t appear in any physical pain nor did he react like he was in physical pain.

I googled it, and apparently adrenaline and endorphin surges due to acute mental health crisis or manic episodes can mask pain so you don’t feel it,

he has previously expressed he was struggling with deep regret and shame due to his gossip past, and being publicly disliked, and on this horrific video he was saying this is what ever one wants etc

which does appear linked, but the fact he could do all that to himself and not feel it , not react in pain, for me is really shocking, and shows just how severe this was. He couldn’t even feel what he was doing.

He will bear a lot of scars as he mutilated himself, and I hope for everyone’s sake, inc his own, he gets the help he needs to recover. Both physically and mentally as he won’t need a constant reminder every time he looks at himself.

Cuts made with sharp things surprisingly don't hurt that much to start with.
