I don't want to let the gas man in. I have already cancelled twice. Every year I get warning letters.. I don't want to let anyone in. I don't want have any form of interaction. I don't want anyone physically in my house. I don't even know when they are coming. I just know its an afternoon appointment.

So potentially dying in an unsafe home is a better option op ?
Can you have someone round when he comes? even a neighbour ..

if it’s a safety check it’s not really up for negotiation.

Maybe a smart meter may help

Do you have a mental health condition that’s stopping you?

Do you have a friend or family member who could come to yours and let in and let out the worker?

What is the purpose of the proposed visit? (Annual service, regular check on behalf of the landlord?)

What are the final consequences of not allowing access?

Safety check? Eventually you have to or they will go to court to force you
What is it that bothers you?

Why do they need to come in?

If they can’t complete their safety checks they’ll eventually cut your gas supply. I’d look to try and facilitate it any way you can.

Better letting them in as constant refusal they can legally put your door in.

@WallaceinAnderland if its a gas safety check they need access to the gas boiler/gas supply. They are done yearly in my social housing

If it's to read a meter you can read it yourself and send in the readings.
If it's a safety check on behalf of your landlord I think you might have to or risk breaching your tenancy.

I know what you mean though. It's quite uncomfortable when you're feeling anxious having a stranger in the house.

But if it's for safety and you could risk a serious accident or being made homeless then could you book an appointment for when you've a mate/family member there? Get them to let them in and supervise them?

Once you've done it hopefully the concept will seem less anxiety inducing.

Gas safety checks are a legal requirement and have to be done regardless whether you want it or not.
Can you contact landlord and come to some arrangement such as have someone with you to let them in while you are out/elsewhere .
If you continue to refuse they can't force entry however they could evict you.

They need to give you the day of the appointment
They can’t expect people to hang around every day
That’s very entitled of them. Do they seriously think no one works but them

In your case it’s clearly very stressful too
Ask them to send a woman to do the job if you feel vulnerable

If you are a tenant you will lose your tenancy not letting him in. Just allow him in. The gas check will take 30 minutes.

I know i have to let them in legally. I can't ask neighbours. Because I don't want anyone in my house. I know eventually I have to let them. I just wish I at least knew the time. I'm just winding myself for the whole day.

Well you won't have a home if you keep refusing. They have the right to ensure the property is safe. Eventually they'll either let themselves in or turf you out. It takes like an hour.

If it's just to read the meter don't let him in if you don't want to. Just read it yourself.

OP I’m sorry that this is so distressing for you. Is there anything you could do to make it go easier?. Could you sit out in your back garden while they are in your house or sit out in your front.

If you don't let them in they can force entry and then they'll charge you for the damage they do getting in.
It's much better to just get it over with.

I don't know if it even comes under metal health. I just know it feels like my heart is in my throat. And my stomach is in knots.
