Decided some aspects of my bedroom look awful. What are your thoughts on these potential tweaks? Pics attached

It’s dawned on me that my bedroom isn’t looking as nice as it could so I’ve mocked up a couple of images and wanted to know your thoughts

I’d go slightly darker with the curtains - more oatmeal / flax as opposed to cream and perhaps with a little texture in them and I’d perhaps go a little less busy with the gallery wall by the mirror

Just wanted to gain a few opinions! Rest of the room I’m happy with - we have a thick pile cream carpet, a cream and gold feature type wall and reclaimed wood furniture

I think perhaps longer curtains would work better.
I think what’s ‘busy’ is having everything out on the vanity, it would do my head in to look at it all before I fall asleep, but especially when I wake up.

BitCoinBillionaire · 02/08/2026 08:19

It’s messy right now I’ll give you that! The make up bag lives elsewhere but I am going to find a few homes for the other bits, leaving just my jewellery boxes and the gold round tray - I need to have various bits and pieces to hand!

So is the longer cream curtains and gallery wall pictures the ai? I agree id go a bit darker on the curtains. I would go bigger on the mirror for the gallery wall and maybe two wall lights on either side of a larger mirror rather than all the frames? But it a lovely room either way

I'd have a bigger roman blackout and interlined blind outside the window recess, the curtains look a bit fussy for me personally, but we all like different things.

I'm not in the 'curtains that are not floor length are a crime' category. If I were having curtains I would choose something full, interlined, triple pleat and short. No tiebacks.

CoCoJones26 · 02/08/2026 08:24

I'd do longer curtains, larger mirror, store a lot of those products elsewhere....maybe more photos on the wall, but placed randomly?

BitCoinBillionaire · 02/08/2026 08:26

Can’t go bigger on the mirror unfortunately- much as I’d perhaps like to! The mirror has great sentimental value - was a wedding present to my mum and dad in the 70s and i took it from their house when they died so of course I’m fully committed to it now 😂

Lower the mirror. Add a couple of round pieces of art to the feature wall. Flor length curtains.

Edited to add - scrap additional round art, but try to see what it looks like if you lower the mirror.

PurpleSpottyHairbrush · 02/08/2026 08:33

The AI picture has taken out the recess where your window is. To get that look you’d have to have the curtains on the main wall so the laundry hamper (?) would be behind them when they are shut. I can’t quite see how much space you have, but worth checking you’re happy with the width you have left. Unless you are going to use the blind and the curtains are just for dressing?

IsoldeWagner · 02/08/2026 08:36

The bedroom window is very small. The heavy dark curtains and dark blinds just accentuate that. Could you just have a blind in a light colour?
Don't have things on the windowsill.
The mirror is lovely, but position it elsewhere and lower down.

IsoldeWagner · 02/08/2026 08:37

The trouble with long curtains is that they're going to cover the radiator completely.

deetss · 02/08/2026 08:37

The longer curtains do work better than the short ones (which hang at a strange angle due to the tie-backs) but AI has completely removed the recess so isn't a good guide to how it'll look.

The room is a bit too 'one-note' for me colour -wise so I'd want to inject some colour I think, whether that's via artwork or bedding or curry I'm not sure!

deetss · 02/08/2026 08:42

As the window is quite small, I wouldn't want anything covering it (I enjoy light more than window dressings) so I think I'd remove the Roman blind, and have a longer curtain pole almost as wide as the recess so that the curtains would draw back fully away from the window during the day. Either long curtains, or short with no tie-backs.

BitCoinBillionaire · 02/08/2026 08:46

That’s a good shout to lower the mirror. I’m 5 ft 3 at a push and have never been able to actually look in it 😂 Don’t need to but for aesthetic purposes you’re right - it needs to come down just a touch

I need to shut the curtains as the room is very very light - the Roman blind is Blackout but light seeps round the edges so curtains are pulled each night.

Not an issue moving the washing basket. I do have a freestanding mirror to contend with as well!

Can’t change the blind really - it was expensive and is only a couple of years old. Same with the free stand mirror - was expensive so for now, has to stay

@IsoldeWagner not bothered about the radiator being covered. We are changing that later on in the year to a more modern one but regardless, I don’t ever put it on in the bedroom

I think longer, lighter curtains thst run the full length of the alcove would work better.

You've chosen two lovely colours (the peachy pink walls and duvet cover and the dark blind and dresser) but there’s nothing that sits between those two colours hush I think is making it look a bit disjointed. I think maybe you need subtle pattern somewhere in the room, some texture and some bigger things on the wall - gallery walls can easily look a bit “bitty” and messy

IsoldeWagner · 02/08/2026 08:47

That's a shame about the blind, because it's a small window. Does it pull up any higher? - is there another window in the room?

canthavetoomanylights · 02/08/2026 08:48

I would ditch curtains altogether and take the pictures from around the mirror. Then move the mirror down so you can see in it while sitting.

TheSandgroper · 02/08/2026 08:49

If your curtains are chocolate brown, I would change them. I don’t like the colour of your chest of drawers either. It’s deadening.

Can your curtain rod be extended so that when the curtains are pulled back, the whole of the window is available to allow light in? I wouldn’t impede that at all if I could get away with it. The same with the blind. You say the window is small and half of it is covered by the blind.

And add some colour and movement. Not brown or grey. Bring home some paint swatches from all over the spectrum and hold them against the wall and see what you like. Then look for curtains, a cushion or two - not a lot but you need something.

BitCoinBillionaire · 02/08/2026 08:49

@deetss where would I put the curry? 😂 it IS a bit one note tbh. Walls are a very very pale and warm toned creamy pink, doors are oak (we have two- one to the en suite) and the furniture is reclaimed Tuscan wood.

That's ok, I just know from experience what a difference it can make!

rwalker · 02/08/2026 08:50

A bigger curtain rail so curtains don’t cover the window and make it look bigger
ling curtains
because you have a blind there’s no need to draw the curtains just use the blind

don’t use pictures use mirrors all different get them from a charity shop
you need to arrange them differently not big one in the middle and small ones round
go bold with curtains and bedding

BitCoinBillionaire · 02/08/2026 08:50

@canthavetoomanylights I can’t sit over there - it’s a large chest of drawers. I am also -8 in both eyes so all mirrors have to be held in front of my face 😂

parkezvous · 02/08/2026 08:51

Curtains either need to be longer or go. I’d consider a blind on the outside of the recess. A radiator cover would also make it look more put together also the mirror and pictures look a bit odd. A bigger mirror perhaps and move the pictures

Nutmuncher · 02/08/2026 08:51

clear the clutter off the windowsill
get rid of those heavy curtains
you need a bigger rectangular mirror the round looks pokey
the freestanding mirror is awful put it on market place
is there anywhere else to store the makeup etc like the bathroom or a dressing room?
clothes bin in the en-suite

BitCoinBillionaire · 02/08/2026 08:51

@rwalker now I like the look of that in someone else’s house but I’m not sure of that wouldn’t be a bit ‘busy’ in my bedroom!
