i was wearing earphones and it was really loud. Timing makes sense. The very hottest weather has passed, or cool enough families might do something and maybe those just got exam results going camping or partying.

So I tested how dry my lawn was today. Used a discarded feather to be the tinder and did a break, I.e. no possibility of spreading. Obviously had water to hand. The feather lit up in an instant and it was scary how a 5cm x 5cm square lit up so quickly. My lawn is a tinderbox 😮

My DH had the Welsh one first (which I loosely translated for him), then followed by the English one. I've only had the English one come through.

Mine went off while I was driving seconds before DH phoned me to say there was no fajita spice in the cupboard. I did think a government alert was a bit excessive for something I could mix when I got home.

My DD1, who is autistic, was very distressed by the alert, we were travelling back home after a day at the seaside at the time. Thankfully, she wasn’t wearing her hearing aids at the time.

I can understand why they felt it necessary, but I’m not at all sure how effective such a warning is. Only a few minutes later we came across an idiot who had lit a fire in their garden.

The people who will pay attention to alerts are not the ones taking disposable BBQs to parks, throwing cigarette ends onto to grass verges or ignoring the fact their kids are out setting fire to things for Tik Tok lols.

I take it these posts are ironic given the trending thread?

Mine went off while I was in the Urgent Treatment Centre at our local hospital. I think it actually helped that there were a bunch of phones all going off at the same time.

Where did you see the report that it was coming ? Was it on the news ?

My local councillor told us all via Facebook that we were going to get an alert.

I'm on WhatsApp chat with my local councillors and they didn't pre warn.

I had one about 10 seconds before the actual alert!

We were at a play called ‘The Last Quiz Night on Earth’ where Earth is about to be wiped out by an asteroid and everyone’s gone down the pub for one last quiz. I must say the continuous alerts added something. The cast handled it very well and made it part of the show.
