Before the Brexit vote, there were one or two Tories (Heseltine from memory) who warned that if the Tory party were stupid enough to think they could somehow become a uniparty because of it, they were deluded. The consensus was if the Tories picked up the chalice of such a stupid and divisive policy then it would be the end of them.
Nothing in the past 10 years has made me think they were wrong.
I am reminded of people who try to overdoes on paracetamol. Yes they can get their stomach pumped and perk up. But eventually, cruelly, and tragically, the drug will finish it's victim.
