A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I've never heard of blue sky is it tik tok for the elite?

Twitter for “progressives”. Made by the same man who created Twitter and then abandoned it. It’s almost identical in format but more of an echo chamber for certain views.

It’s a backwater version of X for the left.

I’m told - I don’t use X - that it’s very noticeable that now some of the left have turned their backs on it the amount of abuse and numbers of horrible pile-ons on X have gone right down.

The ‘kind’, ‘caring’ and ‘virtuous’ fellow travellers are, in fact, a bunch of nasty bullies and hypocrites.

I’d respectfully disagree about Farage not being a charlatan but I agree that he is consequential. His lies over Brexit (£350 million for the NHS anyone), his claims to be just an ordinary bloke (how many ordinary blokes do you know whose primary career was as a city trader? He, like far too many politicians, has never worked a day in his life), the accusations around his behaviour at school and now pulling stunts like this latest one, not to mention all the dodgy financial stuff. I’m afraid for me that makes him a charlatan.

But anyway, off my high horse I get - this is a thread about the incumbent Government and I don’t want to derail it.

I appreciate that no one in here attempts to hound me out for my views on Reform, it’s almost as if we’re all grown ups 😜

I think it was Boris and co claiming money for the NHS.
If Nigel was a city trader he was working a day in his life, and that does make him an ordinary bloke. How can you judge people on earnings?
Plenty of people were complete twats at school, but had plenty of life ahead of them to learn to act better.
I sit in the fence about Reform. But inaccurate ‘shouting’ I despise.

strawberrybubblegum · 14/08/2026 15:59

I thought this article about whether Brexit cost/saved us money was interesting.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/8d944cad33e72ade

I voted Remain, but I think it's too early to tell whether it will have harmed or helped us - and it will certainly always be open to vastly differing interpretations in both directions!

Arguably NHS spending has increased by £750 million per week in real terms since Brexit (from £202 billion in 2019/20 to £242 billion in 2024/25)... which is quite a lot more than the £350million per week promised.

What's much harder to tell is the financial difference Brexit has made - so whether we could have spent more or less on the NHS if it hadn't happened - which is what that article explores.

That's interesting because I reinstated ✖️ when Musk stated that it would be more balanced and dip in now and again. Before I only used it as a work tool for a charity so dodged but heard about some weird goings on.

SapphireCasino · 14/08/2026 17:29

I've been on X for ages

Art and music and cat pictures are still there.

About the by election

Firstly I thought that turnout was quite good for a by election?

Secondly, I don't know who that group was that turned up with the masks on at the count

The trouble with constant strategic trolling is it's very difficult to know what's actually going on. I mean, imagine how much easier everything would be without that.

It used to be moderated very much like Bluesky. Musk changed that so that the pendulum swung back the other way, but it’s still more balanced than Bluesky is.

Nuthatch26 · 14/08/2026 19:20

Jeez, has everyone had one of those emergency alerts on their phone just now warning of wildfires? I jumped out of my effing skin!

I don't know how anyone can proudly share a platform with the likes of Heather Herbert. So much hate.

Yes, I got the same. Very startling, and I couldn’t figure out how to turn it off.

Did you mean someone in particular when you said proudly?

I’m sure there’s lots of awful people on all kinds of social media.

The Labour supporters on MN.
Many on the left seem to think that X is an evil cesspit, but BlueSky is virtuous and kind.

Oh, I see

Well, the level of crazy is even higher than usual on here at the moment. It may be a permanent change - I don't know. I think with the advent of the AI learning bot, that's been another downside for a chat board.

HH is foul, but I don't think that is any reflection on other users. X has some really vile users. Tommy Robinson and even worse. Facebook likewise. Even Mumsnet is home to some really nasty posters, yet here we all are.

Its batshit, more froth than a foam party out there in the wild west. 😂

Yes to your comment on AI though. I have been reliably informed, by she who shall remain nameless, that some are using AI to track posters across threads and check history. This is why so many are name changing regularly. I know you've been concerned about all the name changes, but hope this explains why some feel its necessary.

You've missed my point. Some see BS as virtuous and safe, while scoffing at X and dismissing anything shared from there.

A bit like those who think the Gaurdian is the bastion of truth and knowledge, whilst scoffing at the 'Daily Fail'.

@Nuthatch26 froth and total irrationality! If that's a word.

btw I met one of the annoying people from that social thing today at a work related thing. She managed to cram some politics in there too!

RodneyKitten · 14/08/2026 20:32

It’s the heat.

It amplifies the batshitery, not that some need it, they seem naturally predisposed to that type of thing.

Hope her halo is nice and shiny now. You are more patient than I Sapphire. Couldn't cope with that.
You need to think of a killer line that shuts her down, but makes you look like the tolerant one. 😊

Yep, lots of it going on atm. Perhaps different names for different threads if you're worried. Please PM me and let me know if you do. I won't dob you in, but I can never work them out. 😂

I can spot the Labour lot from space though.
