I prefer the Conservatives and Kemi to Reform, but I wouldn’t call Farage a charlatan. I think he is awkward and flawed but sincere. He has been hugely consequential as well. He has shifted the debate and moved the centre of politics.
The Conservatives botched Brexit, the general public wanted it, but instead of cracking on and making a success of it, they wasted time trying to placate remainers who would never be satisfied anyway. (I actually voted Remain because I am a cynic.). We ended up with the worst of all possible worlds, not in the EU and not taking advantage of our freedoms.
How different things would be if the Conservatives had acted on Brexit with conviction and had given Farage his due, perhaps a seat in the House of Lords? Instead the right is split and the loony left is having a hay day.
