A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

It may be a small amount of money to live on, but the actual bill for welfare for those who have never paid a penny in themselves is high and expanding. How are the tax payers meant to keep up with the ballooning costs when we have neets out of work and an older population. It is a crisis.

Round up the mostly men ( and some women ) who make life so awful and end up in prison and yes, let’s put them on an island to kill each other and leave the rest of us in peace.
None of this will happen. They just continue to make it miserable for everyone else.

I was thinking it could be run more like a Norwegian open prison. Given its an island, planning objections would be fewer and the open aspect less risky. I wasn’t envisioning some sort of apocalyptic thunderdome! Nature and outdoors is very healing. There might be more chance of rehabilitation.

On regards to asylum seekers, it would be more about not upsetting local communities, and giving migrants no opportunities to melt into the black economy. A healthy but boring dead end before being swiftly processed.

I do not care if boat tourists where getting only £5 a week, it is totally unaffordable and is another nail in the countries coffin both economically and socially. Burnham explicitly saying affluent communities must take their fair share of illegal immigrants, is evidence, that the left no longer need to even hide their intentions. This, the destruction of the traditional largely indigenous middle class rural or even 'dormitory' communities that Labour perceive as 'Gammons'.

Unfortunately many people including middle class and educated professionals buy the 'diversity' cool aid propaganda . In effect they are actually helping with their own eventual demise. The aim of all Labour- Lib Dem or Green politicians is the destruction of generational way of small town or country way of living.

I do not care if immigrants were getting £5 a week instead of £50, it is still unaffordable when we cannot fund Defence, Education or we have huge Pot Holes in the middle of the road. Also, if we have no available resources or desire to build infrastructure for the massively increasing legal population (not one new reservoir created since 1992 despite population up by 12 million). Therefore, how can we possibly fund or house illegal immigrants who have no right or purpose to be here in the United Kingdom !

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 11:06

We moved away from an area that seemed to have a social problems from all manner of people , lack of investment and a general feeling of fear if you ventured out.
The area I am now isn’t eutopia or anything special, but it felt safer and had better schools and less people who want to bring others down and act like idiots. This will change over time and I can already seeing it happen now as people die and their homes are sold on ( it has an older population)
I agree that governments don’t want people living anywhere decent, despite the fact we fund it ourselves and have gone without in order to live somewhere half way decent.
It has its problems, but it’ll have more over time and people are already moving further out and dissing our once lovely community by building more , but less on the infastructure.
The ‘white flight ‘ did happen, it is a thing and continues to be one , it’s just that government’s don’t like it being mentioned too much as they don’t have the people’s best interests at heart really and think that people can and will integrate . I don’t see much evidence of it happening completely really, not 100 percent anyway. Maybe in some communities, but definitely not in a lot of places.

All Andy Burnham is or ever was is a glorified 'Council leader' policies such as £2 bus fares talking about how difficult to cancel Subscriptions and now 'banning' disposable BBQ's . These are policies of a Council Leader also the Bull Shit that is coming from his mouth about whether or not PC Harper's killers are going to be released or not. A typical Council Leader saying I am doing my best but it is out of my hands, sums up the situation with PC Harpers killers. I suspect the killers will be released possibly two to three months late when Labour thinks nobody will notice !

Binnyforthewin · 12/08/2026 11:32

DancingFerret · 12/08/2026 09:36

I hope Burnham and his neighbours will also be accommodating and welcoming the unwanted and expensive masses.

Some news agencies seem to have dug out Burnham saying he didn't want more asylum seekers going to Manchester form a few years ago

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 11:35

Burnham will be brought down and burn out because he isn’t up to the job.

I agree generally.

On a national level the recent Burnham announcement that most made me smile was to legislate about misleading price reductions in ads - ‘was £50, now £30’, that sort of thing.

All very worthy - although already subject to legal control - but amusingly trivial for a PM to have his minions push out as a ‘policy’. His entire performance so far is to be the man up the bar with lots of observations about everyday life, like a crap Harry Enfield character.

I'm not a gambler, but it seems someone should start a book as to how long the so-called Burnham Bounce will last.

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 11:45

I can’t see him lasting long. Maybe after the next budget in October the knives will be out

He is launching his Willy Wonka tour - sprinkling trivial policy sweeties over the country so I'm sure it will last a bit longer

I think it’s finished already
And he’s not even been here for most of it

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 12:42

I don’t hate the new PM , but I don’t fully trust him or the government to do anything the people really want either. It’s all just a show and he so desperate to become leader and Pm I don’t think he thought too much about what the top job actually is.

Loopylalalou · 12/08/2026 12:56

Has Burnham physically met with The Donald yet? He might be bonkers but he readily sniffs out a fool. It’ll be interesting to see his reaction.

SapphireCasino · 12/08/2026 13:08

I still find the subscription thing super weird.

There are lots of consumer issues that need addressing and I’m happy for the big things and the small things to be addressed. I just wondered why this one in particular got his attention. I’m sure it was labelled as a quick win. But ironically, I think it’s bad PR because it just gets laughed at.

Yes, when he says "middle class areas" he means southern. He's playing the division game again. Its all he knows.

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 13:14

Oh yes, he wants the south to have the people that haven’t claimed asylum or wants to live here the proper way with visas and citizenship and so on. Let them have the problems when the south is already overcrowded and the infrastructure is buckling .

Agreed. Its also a bill that was put through before Labour came to power.

His answer to everything is to blame London, as the rest of the country will soon find out. Thats his whole schtick.
Makerfield has had few migrants and is majority white. Will they be getting their 'fair share'? Doubt it.

Surely he needs to complete his Makerfield rest - fill Makerfield with asylum seekers and if they are happy then it can be rolled out.

Essex and the south east have plenty of diversity and different cultures. Where does he mean ? The west county , south wales ? Some welsh people was pretty racist towards me as a white English woman ( I lived there for a few years ) goodness knows what they would do with non English people or people of colour who want to integrate. I had one woman say ‘ all the English are thick and shouldn’t live here ‘ so the mind boggles ( they were not all like her , but they are inwards looking in some areas I found )
Good luck with any of this in some areas of the UK

Nuthatch26 · 12/08/2026 13:30

Our Andy loves division, he thrives on the north south divide. Perhaps he means Tory voting areas?

I read an article recently about squat toilets being installed in Cambridge. Lovely 😬
