A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

The country is in crisis and we are blindly allowing more people into the UK we know nothing about.
It's not like we have plenty of room and space and resources.

I agree. I don’t trust the current government to listen though.

We'll we know soon. Burnham is going to be told at every stop of his magical tour that Labour screwed the High Street with Employers NI. If he is listening he will reverse it and cut welfare instead.

the80sweregreat · 11/08/2026 10:56

How will the new PM handle the questions over the boats? Fair enough about the disgruntled business owners, but will he listen to concerns about immigration too ?

Cut welfare…God no. That will be the last to go.

They have already been told by big business boss including the boss of next who explained in detail why it's problematic for them to hire.

the80sweregreat · 11/08/2026 11:02

Rachel reeves tried to cut welfare , but her back benchers were not on board with it.
The media were not happy about the fuel cuts for pensioners. I am not sure how they can get around any of this.

Honestly Starmer should have just done it. Probably wishes he had as from that point on he lost all authority.

the80sweregreat · 11/08/2026 11:09

Yep, the back lash from the media about the pensioners and the fuel allowances were huge.
I can’t see how they can do anything about welfare without a back lash from somewhere. Doing away with the two child cap on benefits was also ridiculous.

LieborCookin · 11/08/2026 11:54

I agreed with the fuel cut they just had the cut off to low !

Fraud accounts for apparntly 45 % of all crime in the UK and costs us over all around 14 billion remembering so much is hidden it's hard to actually pin down.

14 billion on sloppy wastage .

It depends where his loyalties lie and who he actually wants to help ?

Yes me too - I thought it was insane that someone on basic state pension lost it, but those on pension credits kept it and various other benefits, making them effectively better off.
Maybe income equivalent to NMW would have been a better cut off, something like that.

He probably will give the boat people money for better boats.

the80sweregreat · 11/08/2026 12:13

I hope that after the recess the new PM is given a hard time about the boats because so far he hasn’t been .

Are you saying the Tiktok videos and Gary Lineker aren't serious political challenge?

the80sweregreat · 11/08/2026 12:16

No, I want Kemi to try and find out what they are going to do about the ones what come over on the boats.

It’s sweet that Arthur “boosts” with can-do enthusiasm, but there is zero chance that Burnham will listen:

So we all have to do ‘our bit for the immigration accommodation’?

Did he get confused with a Dunkirk spirit situation?

After all it’s all about little boats? Easy mistake to make, I suppose.

Yes love the “we must all play our part” rhetoric.

Well if you don't own a hotel or have spare new builds to lease out there's not much you can do in truth.

We are expected to sing Kumbaya and teach them how to make a proper cuppa.

DancingFerret · 12/08/2026 09:36

I hope Burnham and his neighbours will also be accommodating and welcoming the unwanted and expensive masses.

Pacificbeach · 12/08/2026 09:49

Britain has a lot of small, uninhabited islands. Why don’t we leverage this geographical advantage? Could solve both the prison and asylum seeker accommodation issues. Separate islands of course.

the80sweregreat · 12/08/2026 09:54

Round up the mostly men ( and some women ) who make life so awful and end up in prison and yes, let’s put them on an island to kill each other and leave the rest of us in peace.
None of this will happen. They just continue to make it miserable for everyone else.

Yes, I would imagine this is actually a source of frustrating for the French. The initial benefits given, plus the very high acceptance rate, is a huge draw to the UK and they are the affected as they are the route to get here.

It must not be a lot of fun living around there.

On the benefits thing the French rate is the equivalent of £40.64 per week per person whereas in the UK it’s £49.18 per week per person. Doesn’t seem like a huge difference.
