A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@redange he has a stalking conviction though

Bombarding people with physical threats, and doxxing them and encouraging others to do the same is not just words.

4000 emails alone to the man who wouldn't renew his contract at the BBC. He is a threat to the people he's already threatened surely? And there seem to be an awful lot of them.

I hadn't heard of him before, but just googled and Wikipedia says he was released in June 25 and then brought back to prison in February for breaching his licence. Seems prison hasn't rehabilitated him/he hasn't learnt his lesson.

Prison very rarely reforms people. What it does is stop their crimes whilst they are imprisoned, and so keeps the rest of the population safe from them for a while.

1% of the population accounts for over 63% of all violent crime convictions.

Every year early they are released, they have the opportunity to commit more violent crimes, and there are more victims.

I know he is a very dislikeable person and deserved to be sentenced to some time in prison. However, when 'Kop Killers' are being released how can you keep Alex Bellfield in Prison for effectively communicating abuse at people not physical abuse ! It appears that he is a Political Prisoner, like Lucy - Connelly, for whatever reason certain people are deemed a nuisance to the Government.

Connolly pleaded guilty, though, and she was sentenced as per guidelines and was released after serving 40% of her sentence as per guidelines. The government had no say in any of it. If it did she would surely still be in prison instead of happily tweeting away and publishing books?

Good morning. 😁 Happy Friday!

Good job Andy is on holiday. There are no trains to No.10 North. Would have been a bit embarrassing. 😂
The roads were a nightmare lastnight after all the trains were cancelled. Took me two hours to get home from work, should have been a 45 min drive.

👋 to @CaveMum. Love your flying visits.
I listened to Kemi's interview with Ed Balls on PC on my very long commute yesterday. Was interesting to hear more about her background. I'm still annoyed at her for the JB-P stuff earlier in the week though.

Karl Turner set to sue Jonathan Reynolds and the Labour Party for unfair dismissal.

Karl Turner, who had the Labour whip suspended in March, is set to sue Jonathan Reynolds and the Labour Party in search of a six-figure claim.
He will argue that Reynolds, when he was chief whip earlier this year, told other MPs that Turner was mentally ill and that this constitutes a breach of the Equality Act.

@Nuthatch26 I thought Kemi's episode of Desert Island Discs a while back was very interesting - worth a catch-up if you didn't hear it.

The Conservatives have announced plans to ban foreign nationals from social housing.

Foreigners would be barred from social housing and existing tenants stripped of their homes under plans unveiled by the Conservatives.
The party said that restricting eligibility would free up about 230,000 council homes for British families, and those who no longer qualified would be expected to leave within six months.

This is shocking!

'About one in five student loans are now being given to non-British citizens, which risks costing the taxpayer billions of pounds a year in unpaid debt.
Research has found that in the past year foreign students received about £4 billion in tuition fees and maintenance loans, about 20 per cent of the total lending under the scheme.
The vast majority went to EU citizens, with one in 20 of all first-time student loans going to Romanians alone, amid concerns within the government that the scheme is open to fraud.
Critics have warned that the increase will fuel unpaid student loan debt with figures showing that foreign students are about 25 per cent less likely to repay their loans than their British counterparts, meaning that UK taxpayers face losing between £1.2 billion and £2.2 billion each year.'

it never would have occurred to me that foreign students could access up student loans. Bizarre! Seems like a clear loophole.

redange · 07/08/2026 10:19

The point being if safety of people were a concern of the judicial service, not Politics, Calocane and Rudakubana would have been locked up before they killed anyone!

Alex Bellfield appears to have been sent back to Prison because he wanted to continue to talk via You-Tube or though other parts of the Internet. The Prison Service being uneasy about this, because it is likely that 'incompetent' individuals in the Service would be Identified. Thus, Political practices and Public Sector workplaces protecting themselves against much needed scrutiny . The 'Kop Killers' and all the other Vile Criminals being released pose no threats via communication against the prison service. In many ways this is not about Alex Bellfield or the crimes he committed but about the Prison and Probation services protecting themselves from being exposed !

Integrity: remember that? These days the so-called woke culture "rools okay", especially in politics and education it would seem. It's frightening.

Edit: typo.

Good grief, this just gets more and more ludicrous by the day. I didn't know he'd done so much work with the BBC. There is something very wrong at Cambridge and DEI with both staff and student ratios.
I heard this morning that there are now questions about his claim that he couldn't speak until the age of 11 due to Autism. Makes sense if he apparently passed his GCSEs before he learned to read and write!

The Left are so desperate they are prepared to accept the ludicrous if it helps their position in any way. Hence why Jason Arday has not been questioned about the ever increasing ridiculous 'Fairy Tales'. It is quite obvious he is not one of the Greatest long distance runners in the World, quite obvious he was never signed on at Crystal Palace FC. We all had friends at school who claimed the most preposterous things at School or in the Work Place, but we never took them seriously !

How, people like James O Brien who considers himself a 'competent' journalist could not question running 30 Marathons in 35 days one with a broken leg. Similarly not one respected left wing academic suggest he might be 'mistaken' to say he was part of the ITV show 7UP given he was twenty years to young to take part.

Endgames · 07/08/2026 12:41

I know I’m a die hard loyalist but…I don’t think one academic playing fantasy cv and making stuff up is a huge disaster for Cambridge. Like the Bank of England, you can always get a questionable decision or individual without there being anything fundamentally rotten with them.

the80sweregreat · 07/08/2026 14:40

Not really followed the Professor story that closely , but he obviously managed to dupe a lot of people so must have been convincing , but con men and people that live in a fantasy world often are.
He is one amongst many people who work at Cambridge. I doubt it’ll do a lot of damage to their reputation really

Pacificbeach · 07/08/2026 15:09

Cambridge is an incredible brand. One scandal won’t do much harm.

However, if this is representative of a general laxity about academic standards it could. They are not relentlessly targeting academic excellence to the exclusion of all else. They are pursuing more if a balanced scorecard. Perhaps they always were.

LieborCookin · 07/08/2026 16:42

@Nuthatch26 i read this stuff in the times then see you have posted it 😁.

  1. isn't anyone else amazed that whilst we are told there is a housing /social housing crisis and young families are put into unsuitble b.and b acxmd etc that over 200 hundred thousand council homes are not occupied by UK nationals even ?

  2. the student loans lie ,poor students mis sold these loans struggling ,diligently paying back loans and ending up with a greater debt /whilst the system is being totally milked and abused !!
And we are as usual hemorraging money. Sp!!

Pacificbeach · 07/08/2026 16:47

I do wonder why we are letting cop killers out of prison before sending foreign prisoners home. Just take their biometrics and never let them enter the UK again. Surely that is the first step.

CaveMum · 07/08/2026 17:03

I may have missed any discussion on here over the last few days, but there was wider commentary around the idea of releasing the majority of women in prison (excluding those serving sentences for violence/child abuse/etc) as the overwhelming majority of female prisoners (two thirds) are serving sentences for things like fraud, shoplifting, drug offences, etc.

There is a debate that those convicted of this type of crime can be better dealt with via non-custodial sentences and releasing these women would free up about 3000 places. Not to mention that the profile of female prisoners skews heavily to those from domestic abuse situations.

Whilst it’s not a long term solution, it does provide some breathing space for the system.

I’m in favour of such a principle in broad terms, though accept that there will be nuance to it and it could equally see a rise in offences committed by women, either freely or under coercion, if they know they’re less likely to get a prison sentence.

SapphireCasino · 07/08/2026 17:44

@LieborCookin not doing down @Nuthatch26 but Reform, or specifically Matt Goodwin, exposed the social housing figures ages ago. I guess no one takes them seriously. I read a lot of stuff that I don't post on here because it would be unacceptable in some way I guess - unless someone heavyweight publishes it.

@CaveMum one thing I heard about releasing women prisoners, it may or may not be true. They are usually house separately and apparently the reinforcement needed for women's prisons to be suitable for men is quite expensive - because men are much more likely to break out it seems. So the physical buildings are going to need a certain amount of change. I feel like that tells you a lot in itself! But it seems like it's worth making the changes and reviewing policies long-term.

student loan thing is completely new to me. I've only just got home so I might look at that later. I find it utterly ridiculous that you can apply for a UK student loan outside the UK or if you're a non UK resident.

Loopylalalou · 08/08/2026 09:11

I believe you can see a quiet shift within Mumsnet opinion to now see that there are repercussions to the migrant-friendly position offered by this current and the previous government, and the now willingness of people to post about such things as housing and student loan imbalance.
I’d agree that the ring wing parties have been posting the reality for some time but see that acknowledging any of those realities is still ridiculed. Why? A truth is a truth.
I’d question just how many foreign nationals make up the prison population - is there a quick solution by deporting them all, not just the worst

For me and perhaps others Instagram FB are dropping in videos and information from other countries of some protests and amateur footage of unpleasant incidents across many countries. ✖️ Has always done this but it's spreading across other media. Well apart from our TV and news outlets. Also I think al Jazeera, GB news are being watched.

strawberrybubblegum · 08/08/2026 09:53

It's so strange that UK student loans are still available to new EU students. It's been known for ages that there is huge organised fraud, using the same type of franchised colleges - offering courses with low entrance requirements- which were used to effectively sell UK visas (which led to removing the right for students to bring dependents)

The number of foreign students receiving loans of up to £13,000 a year has increased by 60 per cent in the past five years, whilst UK students have fallen by 6% in the same period.

Seven European countries accounting for two-thirds of the 262,000 overseas claimants (Romania, Poland, Italy, Bulgaria, Portugal, Spain and Slovakia). Of those, half are from Romania.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/e5959224efaab9dc

And of course the money can't be recovered if the student moves away. Which is entirely obvious to organised fraud gangs.

Why hasn't the government simply stopped loans to non-UK students?!? Confused

Again and again and again, UK money is given away, hand over fist, to absolutely anyone else who asks for it.

And we're borrowing - taking on more and more debt each year - to do that! It's not as if we actually have spare money, as we drown in a stagnant economy, a COL crisis and crumbling public services!! It gets to the point where it feels deliberate.
