What are your best M&S Food recommendations to try?

There’s a thread going about must-buy foods from Waitrose and I have enjoyed trying all the delicious recommendations!

I thought I would start a similar one for M&S Food, as I’m sure I’m missing out on lots of good stuff.

My contribution: the Somerset butter with maple syrup in. It’s absolute heaven on a toasted bagel!

Oh and i agree on the baked beans!!

and their tinned tomato soup!

SamAylward · 24/07/2026 14:16

Their own brand biscuits - Digestives and Rich Tea - are better than McVities.

tfu · 24/07/2026 14:29

In the Indian ready meals range (purple packaging ) they do an eight hour black dhal which is incredible. I love their french fancies and pineapple tarts. Also frozen sofrito is excellent for cooking

ChillWith · 24/07/2026 15:00

Focaccia from the bakery and frozen mixed berries are the best!

FunnyCradock · 24/07/2026 15:27

I’d exclusively shop at M&S if I had the budget! Mint speckled eggs at Easter are far superior to mini eggs.
Raspberry and white chocolate cookies
Pea, mint & potato salad (I’m so glad this came back recently)
Ltd edition trifle overnight oats (also a recent comeback)
The ploughman’s pot (from the picky bits section)

Oh and the spicy margs are epic

pouletvous · 24/07/2026 15:43

Prawn pasta salad

oldie but goodie

Roundaboot · 24/07/2026 15:47

Pink lemonade, chocolate covered custard creams and granola squares

I'm also a big fan of the date bars they do, covered in dark chocolate. I kid myself that they are a healthy alternative to a chocolate bar but they probably have as much fat and sugar as a Snickers! They are really tasty though.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 24/07/2026 16:13

Idk if they still do it because I’ve not seen it in a while, but when I was a student working at spoons, when I got a good bonus from work I’d get this truffle Gouda. It was yummers. Didn’t put it in the communal fridge tho because if someone had nicked it I absolutely would have lost it. I’d never been in a Marks and Sparks till uni, and when I went home to my council estate and tried to get my parents to try this cheese they thought I was well hoity toity until they tried it.

SharkEatsDonkeyTails · 24/07/2026 16:18

Saucisson Sec with Walnuts tastes amazing!!!

Not sure if I consider this as a treat or a staple nowadays ...... a M&S chocolate Mountain Bar.

S&P dragon rolls
King prawn bhuna
Jalapeño cheese poppers
Fresh tartare sauce
3 for £8 tapas/picky bits - all good
Cornish cruncher and cider cheese bake
Conte Priuli Veneto Blush (Pinot Grigio)

I do miss the prawn cottage cheese and the lemon tart with the crunchy bottom!

Surprised no one has mentioned the new choc cone ends! We're getting through several bags a week 😂
I'm not a huge fan of ready meals, but I like their slow cooked beef bourguignon and their corned beef hash (I have both with buttery mash). My husband and my daughter like their southern fried chicken, and I always buy my eggs from M&S (I love boiled eggs and soldiers).

Choc cone ends added to Ocado order

Has anyone mentioned the M and S ‘kitkat’, ‘Take four’.

Round chocolate biscuits
Swiss chocolate clouds. They’re all good.
Percy Pigs
Chicken Kiev dip, heated up and layered on top of crispy chicken, rocket and their half baked ciabatta.
Deli coleslaw
Pickled coleslaw
Balsamic beetroot
Jam donuts
Posh long dogs. Again, all delicious.
Ham hock. Lovely in a salad.
Cheese tasters
Extra cheesy mixed bag of crisps
Margarita. Lovely frozen in a Ninja slushie.
Spicy Margarita.
Salted butter. I think it’s Jersey. It’s the block of butter, rather than a roll.
The packet of crispy sliced french stick. Delicious with many of their dips.
Mini fuet and cheese pot.
Pink lemonade
Glazed honey pork crisps.
Yum Yums
And their yumnuts are amazing. Original or birthday.

They used to do a stack of profiteroles with a salted caramel filling but I can’t find them anymore. Similarly, they had a salted caramel Christmas pudding a few years ago and an Irish cream double cream. Both no more. :(

Can you tell I love M&S? 😄

Extensive list. Add a M&S Mountain Bar and we can picnic! 😂

I forgot about that! I agree they're lovely.

I also forgot to mention the king cherries which are beautiful.

The truffle mayo and their version of malteasers.

I love Maltesers and I love M&S food, but we actually threw the bag of their Maltesers away, didn’t do it for me at all. See also the KitKat dupes.

My chocolate fetishes from M&S are the giant orange chocolate buttons and the biscuit/malted clouds.

Another vote for the nutty whole food and super green salads, along with the fruited couscous and orzo ones. Chuck some of the hot smoked salmon flakes or chilli prawns on top, perfect lunch.

On the basics side, baked beans and tinned tomatoes are great.

Fruit and veg are head and shoulders above anyone else. I am bankrupting myself on their ‘Collection’ peaches at the moment, superb.

Edited to add their basic jam doughnuts! Oh, and the cheese loaf from the bakery.

Arran2024 · 24/07/2026 19:14

The Pan de Cristal Spanish bread in the deli section is amazing. Also the mini fuet salami. But my most favourite of all is their bag of toffees - especially the salted caramel. There are four flavours - there is always a surplus of one flavour and since I hate the coffee ones I have to examine the bags to make sure i don't get too many of them.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/07/2026 19:15

I will happily take the coffee ones off your hands, @Arran2024 - I am just that self sacrificing.

Please do. They go in the bin (and I am so anal at recycling, I individually unwrap each one and put it in the food bin!)

AttilaTheMeerkat · 24/07/2026 19:59

Their s’mores chocolate sauce for ice cream
Apple turnovers
the extra chocolatey round chocolate biscuits
gala pie slices
quiche lorraine
the garlic breaded mushrooms
their
mini pork pies
lemon and raspberry sponge cake
Trifled cake Alaska ice cream

LimeJellyforBrains · 24/07/2026 21:51

I've just finished my dinner - their excellent pizza deal: 2 delicious, large & generously topped pizzas plus 2 tasty sides (we had haloumi sticks & SF chicken bits). All for £14 (was £12 until recently). The 2 of us have half left for an identical meal tomorrow!

So now I'd like to add my regular favourites:
Sicilian lemon curd
Cinnamon palmiers
Salt & pepper veggie cakes (like rice cakes but v tasty)
Wholemeal bread from the bakery. I'm someone (old) who laments the disappearance of the likes of Cranks' 'bricks', Jordan's, and proper 'dry' wholemeal from Allinson's. This is the last decent shop wholemeal I can find.
A bag mix in the freezer of baby broad beans, endamame & peas - great as a side, in a stir-fry or 'savoury rice', and I would think would be lovely just defrosted in a salad.
Marzenine wine - I like a light but dry red, they are hard to find. This reminds me of a young Chianti, like my Italian uncles used to make every year.

savvy7 · 24/07/2026 23:12

Mojito grapes!

Their butter biscuits and almond biscuits are amazing. And only about £1.50. They melt in the mouth but are really crisp and so buttery. I could eat a whole pack in a day!
I like their sultana cookies too.
The best ever prawn cocktail sandwich is beautiful. It reminds me of the prawn sandwiches of the late 80s!

Love the butter ones

Haha, can you tell I have an M&S food hall very close to where I live? It’s dangerous. I pop in for salad bits and walk out £40 lighter.

I guess I’ll have to give the mountain bar a go now… hard life.

TubeScreamer · 25/07/2026 08:56

Cherries
chocolate covered custard cream biscuits (which my friend designed))
chicken shwarma kebabs

the one thing I am cross about is the pork pie. They have just changed it and it is now too peppery.
