There’s a thread going about must-buy foods from Waitrose and I have enjoyed trying all the delicious recommendations!

I thought I would start a similar one for M&S Food, as I’m sure I’m missing out on lots of good stuff.

My contribution: the Somerset butter with maple syrup in. It’s absolute heaven on a toasted bagel!

Was so disappointed with their Chicken Tikka sandwiches! Bland and tasteless. Chicken is slices not proper tikka pieces like back in the 90s. Not a patch on the original!

Used to love the.Best Ever Prawn Cocktail sandwich but that's not quite the sameanymore either!

Love the Prawn Laksa ready meal! Delicious! Do not buy the Waitrose version - bland, dry & tasteless.

M&S Spag bol has a good flavour.
Used to like the Mushroom Fettucine but the recipe has changed & is bland now.

Fresh cream Victoria sponge is always good.
And I also like the fresh Mango slices or chunks.
And cherries!
Used to have delicious white nectarines but they're not quite the same this year. Hard and sour.

Their salsa in jars is really good. Make a quick wrap tea with katsu breaded chicken bits, salsa, soyr cream, shredded cabbage, avocado.

pickled pink slaw great on everything or just eaten as is

the slow cooked chicken thighs and lamb are really nice and an easy tea.

cornish cruncher cheddar is the best…

their fruit and veg is nicer and lasts longer.

im not a massive burger fan but their best ever burgers are great.

I have to stop reading this, I need to do my Ocado order and I will end up with so much naughty stuff!

I love an M&S shopping day!

Their baked beans - I now much prefer them to Heinz
Caesar loaded dip
Dragon rolls - have had salt & pepper chicken and chilli prawn
All of their salmon - smoked, fillets, fillets with a glaze, etc
Southern fried chicken burgers - really thick chicken, bloody lovely
Truffle cheddar cheese that they stock
Thousand Island and reduced fat Caesar salad dressings (glass bottle)
Most of their pizzas are pretty good (off menu for now as on a diet)
Their combo crisps
Supersoft whole meal bread and their whole meal baps
Roast in a bag chicken - love the garlic and herb
Their fruit and veg is always good
Marinated Thai Red Coconut king prawns - lovely chucked into a salad
Their frozen French fries are pretty good
Cans of mojitos - lovely on a summer evening

I could go on! Am on a diet at the moment, been treating myself to most of main food shop from M&S because I know that I’m always going to love what I’m eating. Bit pricier, but balanced out by no takeaways, etc.

They did add some new dishes to their Indian range last year. One was a chicken shashlike which was, hands down, the nicest ready meal curry I’ve had. They seem to have discontinued it though 🥲. I need to email their customer services to register my disapproval!

ilovestayingin · 24/07/2026 10:19

Their canned beef curry, tomato soup and tuna steak are all good. All their cleaning stuff has a lovely upmarket smell. But leave their decaffeinated coffee on the shelf it tastes of mushrooms 🤢

PaperFlyingFucks · 24/07/2026 10:47

I shouldn't have read this thread! I have a local M&S foodhall but generally stay away as I perceived it to be expensive - regular shoppers, do you find that it is?

I tend to online shop as it keeps my costs down but Ocado don't deliver in my area, unfortunately.

Limited edition chocolate bread sandwiches, with chocolate sauce, strawberries, pistachio cream filling- unexpectedly moreish

Expectedly moreish, I’d say!

What a thread!! 😅

M&S profiteroles are the best supermarket profiteroles I have found. Amazing.

Dreamcatcherat50 · 24/07/2026 11:51

bakermummy21 · 23/07/2026 22:08

Their cookies from the bakery are sooo good, in fact so many yummy items in their bakery

Yes! The bakery chocolate buttons shortbread and the chocolate peppermint cookies they did at Christmas.

HRTQueen · 24/07/2026 11:51

Chocolate covered custard creams
Gastropub lasagna
Deli pickled gherkins
Buffalo chicken wings love the Chinese ones too

I have heard good reports on the M&S Chocolate & Pistachio dip

bananamachinewater · 24/07/2026 12:00

I've never noticed the chocolate covered custard creams 😳bit scared to try them now as they sound amazing! My DS loooves the extra cream custard creams though!

PatioDwellers · 24/07/2026 12:01

I had the white chocolate covered custard creams the other day - incredibly sweet - but I managed to force 4 down....

Another vote for the super nutty salad.

Also the cranberry and pecan nut loaf. Slice it, thick layer of salted butter - OMG it's amazing.

The Cranberry & Pecan loaf is sublime! I bought 3 on my last M&S visit, sliced and froze half a dozen slices so I can snack without feeling I need to eat the whole thing before it gets too hard. It's honestly the best thing. But it is ££.

Blanketyblank04 · 24/07/2026 12:03

We like their BBQ chicken flatties!

Bohemond23 · 24/07/2026 12:04

Has anyone else picked up the French chocolate mousses. Not M&S brand. £4.50 for two. They are divine and exactly as you would find in a French restaurant.

No , it’s not overly expensive and lots of staples are very competitively priced , added to which the fruit , veg and lots of the meat is just much nicer than other supermarkets .

Twins3007 · 24/07/2026 12:14

their Feta and harrisa dip and there korean bbq coleslaw

BillieWiper · 24/07/2026 12:15

Their butter biscuits and almond biscuits are amazing. And only about £1.50. They melt in the mouth but are really crisp and so buttery. I could eat a whole pack in a day!
I like their sultana cookies too.
The best ever prawn cocktail sandwich is beautiful. It reminds me of the prawn sandwiches of the late 80s!

Twins3007 · 24/07/2026 12:17

JingsMahBucket · 23/07/2026 21:56

They’ve actually dropped the price to 40p a can at my store in past couple months. Those are the baked beans we buy.

Edited

so agree on the bake beans

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/07/2026 12:36

@GameOfJones - Sainsbury’s do coconut, pineapple and lime ice lollies that are as good as the M&S ones - if you can’t get to M&S.

mac111 · 24/07/2026 12:58

It’s the Cheesy Nacho Salad Bowl for me!

RomanMum · 24/07/2026 14:02

Watching with interest, so many great suggestions! I haven’t been my nearest new M&S yet (it may be the same one as @WhitstablePearl). I cant wait to try it out, though my credit card is quaking at the thought…

Darlinghag · 24/07/2026 14:11

For me its:
Tabbeboulah in the salad section
Bog standard £1 ketchup - better than heinz!
Tuna fishcakes
Pink lemonade
BBQ crisps - they are like corrugated shape
the little rolls of butter with garlic
dark chocolate covered dried cherries
rocky road bites in the tub
salted caramel protein bars (only if you eat that sort of thing!)
the marinated chicken in foil tins - they do one with mango and a bhaji crumb!
Some of their ready meals are good for what they are - lasagne and korma come to mind.
