I don't know what anything is ... googling wham box now ๐Ÿ˜†

I was thinking this but suspect you're not hankering after 1980s tuck shop sweets. https://amzn.eu/d/04JVJICz

Morning all.
@FuzzyPuffling that looks amazing.
So hot last night. Finally dropped off around 5am. Should be cooler tonight.

martha79 · 14/08/2026 13:19

Afternoon all ๐Ÿ‘‹

I made it out! ๐Ÿ‘DH drove me to meet my friend in an air conditioned Waitrose cafe for a coffee. It was just over an hour but lovely to get out after not managing it earlier in the week.

Bed rest needed and painkillers now and 30 degrees in the bedroom despite 2 fans ๐Ÿ™„ and 30 outside. I keep hearing itโ€™s the last hot day but just seen tomorrows forecast is 27 so not dropping that much I need to stop looking but I just want the high temps to stop now. Everywhere looks so dead ๐Ÿ˜•

Keep cool everyone

That plum van gets everywhere @martha79

Gorgeous firework pic. @FuzzyPuffling Looks fabulous!

TodayIsabetterone · 14/08/2026 13:35

Dippy dog was not impressed we went out and apparently barked in protest waking up a hungover and equally unimpressed DD who only got in from exam celebrations at 4 am! ๐Ÿ˜‚

The young have so much stamina!

Oioiqueen · 14/08/2026 15:19

@MewithME could be weather related, my neuropathy is playing up this week with tingling in my hands for no reason.

@martha79 thabks for letting us know which van came today. I'm far too invested.

@TodayIsatrickyone I hear you 31 here too. Possibility of thunderstorms this afternoon, I can see some grey clouds but pfft they'll just be for show as we know.

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I know! I was heading to bed as they were heading out giggling and laughing!
Sheโ€™s off out again tonight with a different friend.

TeaAndStrumpets · 14/08/2026 17:51

Still 29.5 inside although allegedly 27 outside, we are due to get a bit hotter then it will be rain and thunder. Can't wait (if true).

I get tingly feet @Oioiqueen I think they are just so shocked to get a blood supply! I don't like the feeling so I actually wear thick cotton socks which seems to make me less aware of it. I look delightful with my socks and felt slippers.

Anyone else just had a wildfire alert? My first one ever!!

Yeah that was freaky! I was watching a TV programme on my phone and I couldn't work out if it was an external sound or not before the message popped up. Everything was going off because DS was watching YouTube!

Good on Andy B I say. It's something. He's trying. He looked quite moved from his visit to Stourbridge. I'm not far away really and it's absolutely terrible.

Yes, I was playing a silly game on my phone and it started beeping! There's at least three fires across the city here, and I've just heard fireworks ๐Ÿ™„ It's gone quite cloudy but sadly doesn't seem to be turning to rain.

JewelleryCat · 14/08/2026 19:33

I had the alert too, made me jump

TodayIsabetterone · 14/08/2026 19:36

Yes same! Both DH and I started bleeping loudly at the same time, panicked and switched it off. Guess no one can claim they didn't know not to use a BBQ/ fire pit etc!

Oioiqueen · 14/08/2026 20:53

@TeaAndStrumpets my feet are really bad in the winter. I usually have two or three pairs on when in the house so I hear you.

I didn't get the fire alert, I've never received all the others in the past either. I don't think my phone is compatible.

DH never gets them either! Very non smart phone.

My DH looked concerned about my lack of alarm. I did point out realistically would I be somewhere where someone near me or with me doesn't have their phone go off? It's not like I go trekking the Caingorms for days on my todd.

Yes please, do tell @MewithME , also in the market for a new washing machine soon. I hope our Beko hasn't shaken itself to bits before then. It's a goldilocks machine and objects if the load is too heavy or too light. 11kg sounds good for bedding. Fingers crossed it makes your life easier.

@danglethedingle yes washing machines used to last forever! My mum had a twintub and the kitchen was pretty well unusable on a Monday because it had to be pulled out and blocked access to the cooker etc. This partly explains why on Monday we always had rissoles for tea. i.e. leftover Sunday roast minced up with onion, mashed potato, and some egg to bind.....always fried in dripping... yum.

(for anybody young on the thread ๐Ÿ˜‚)

If there was no leftover meat we had bubble and sqeak. Five children, we lived on leftovers!

My grandmother had a washhouse in the back yard and everything got put in a big boiler, with a wooden thing like a milking stool on a long handle to bash it about. When I was at infant school the teacher asked me what was my favourite thing to do, and apparently I said "Working the dolly tub", which my Mum thought was hilarious! I don't think I was allowed near the mangle though.

Times have changed!

My cousin got her hand injured in the mangle. (If a mangle is the roller thing that squeezed out the water?)
Watching tv in pjamas. Was feeling a lot better today. Gp is referring me to a surgeon for a hernia repair. Relieved but a bit anxious about having mesh inside me.

All the impulsive things kids do to injure themselves, it's why parents need eyes in the back of their heads ๐Ÿ˜ฏ I think the mangle rollers would be irresistible to a curious child !

I hope your hernia is safely fixed. I know mesh for gynae issues has been horrific but I think it's OK elsewhere. My son in law has a job which involves heavy lifting and his mesh repair is still fine about 10 years on.

TodayIsabetterone · 15/08/2026 09:28

Morning all
Still in bed with a cuppa and snuggling a snoozing sausage dog after a bad night with pain again so a quiet one today.
There is a lovely breeze coming through the window which is most welcome after another sticky night. Meant to be 28 again though but itโ€™s pleasant right now so Iโ€™ll take that!

Good luck with the hernia repair @Chickadee26

Have a good day everyone

TeaAndStrumpets · 15/08/2026 10:47

A short list of woes today IBS bad, sciatica bad. I staggered upstairs for a VERY much needed shower and felt weird after standing for 5 minutes. To make matters worse I started a new bottle of Child's Farm shampoo and I've obviously bought the wrong one. Usually I get everything unscented but now I smell like a tangerine!

Came downstairs, DH cooking some chicken breasts for later, now the oven heating element has exploded so I'll have to get a man in ๐Ÿ˜ก

Oioiqueen · 15/08/2026 10:59

@TeaAndStrumpets I shouldn't laugh but I know the scent you are thinking of, its very tangerine like. Hope you get the heating element sorted soon.

TodayIsabetterone · 15/08/2026 11:20

Oh no @TeaAndStrumpets it sounds like quite the morning! Well done on the shower and hope you smell less tangerine like soon! ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

So annoying when things go wrong in the house! Our oven went before my stroke but we havenโ€™t missed it over summer. Must add it to the list before Xmas though as cant cook a Xmas dinner in the air fryer - unless we ate one or two items at a time ๐Ÿ˜‚

We have made some progress with the house though after our list making the other week. We now have 2 working taps again in the downstairs bathroom. ๐Ÿ‘
Also big news is the walk in shower has finally been emptied of clutter. Weโ€™d been using it as a โ€˜ temporaryโ€™ storage unit for longer than I care to admit as everyone prefers the downstairs bathroom shower for some reason!
Wed been sorting a few items a day for some time as it felt less overwhelming that way and then DH had a big effort this week to finally finish it off. So itโ€™s been cleaned, restored and weโ€™re back to using it again ๐ŸŽ‰ Feels like having a new shower itโ€™s been so long. Will make life much easier on my bad days as no stairs to tackle.
