I shall do my errands early doors and then hide out in a cool room. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

It's the only way!

Oioiqueen · 13/08/2026 07:49

Here we go hopefully the last really hot day of the year....

martha79 · 13/08/2026 08:22

Oh gosh, even in my 'cool' house it's already 24C today. Got a quiet day at work, and then a friend coming round later - we were going to do a bit of unpacking/ furniture building but I think we might just sit quietly and try not to melt!

Oioiqueen · 13/08/2026 08:29

My in laws leave today. We are due to be 37 here at around 3/4pm. Where they live three hours away it will be 22 at the same time. They are putting their jumpers loose in the car ready to put on as they get closer to home. Absolutely insane literally three hours away by car.

JewelleryCat · 13/08/2026 09:20

@TodayIsabetterone good luck to your DD today. Hopefully she gets the results she wants/needs

TodayIsabetterone · 13/08/2026 10:21

Thank you @JewelleryCat thats very kind of you.

Well Sheโ€™s back and happy with her results so we can all breathe a massive sigh of relief!

Her lovely best friend didn't get what she wanted though so sad to see her upset but sheโ€™s still passed and they're off to the beach for the day and will celebrate tonight regardless.

@Oioiqueen blimey those temps and the difference are just crazy! Hope you can cope. High about 29/ 30 here today and tomorrow which is bad enough but next week does look better.

After an early start wirh a nervous DD today I shall be resting and staying in front of a fan!

Oioiqueen · 13/08/2026 10:57

@TodayIsabetterone well done to DD I imagine she feels a massive weight lifted now. Sad for her friend but there will always be people that don't quite get what they need

TodayIsabetterone · 13/08/2026 11:19

Thanks @Oioiqueen DD was a couple of marks off her predicted grade in one subject so a bit disappointed there but then did better than expected in another so overall itโ€™s fine!
Iโ€™m just relieved as it was all a bit stressful this year as she had some health issues which were a worry and then my stroke 2 weeks before her A levels obviously didnโ€™t help but itโ€™s all okay! iโ€™m proud of her just for getting through all that ๐Ÿ˜Š

martha79 · 13/08/2026 11:52

Well done to DD @TodayIsabetterone!

Just had an unexpected visit from a friend who had to drop her car at a garage nearby - I need to encourage more people to drop in on me for half an hour, it's lovely :)

TeaAndStrumpets · 13/08/2026 12:37

Hurrah for your DD @TodayIsabetterone things are looking up! Very well done.

MewithME · 13/08/2026 18:15

It's so hot I can't think at all. I've got a rare couple of days to myself but I had to work today. It's a bit pants because I feel all yuck about work and struggling to unwind again now. Feel like summer is over but I have another couple of weeks off yet. I know I'm lucky to have lots of leave really but the thought of going back isn't filling me with delight.

Anyway, I am going to have a bowl of cereal for tea. It's too hot and I just don't want to think about anything at all. My brain hurts after one day but it is over 30 degrees in here!

Anyway...glad you enjoyed your visitor @martha79 . Well done to all your loved ones if they got their results today too. @TodayIsabetterone ...not sure who else....brain not working....

I am dreadfully inarticulate sorry.

Sorry but can't remember what username I used when I commented a few threads ago on this lovely supportive thread.

Anyway @MewithME you are not in the least bit inarticulate. Work stress is a real bugger. That tired but wired thing is horrible too.

I'm looking forward to the weather breaking. The heat has messed with my sleep, my weight and inflammation and ability to do my usual light weight stretching etc.

TeaAndStrumpets · 13/08/2026 21:18

Welcome back @HannahDefoesSpringFling ! Yes I think we'll all be grateful when the weather is cooler. It's only (ha!) reached 29 indoors here but much hotter outside .

This afternoon we had a friend stopping off to break a long journey and I had been feeling sorry for him travelling in the heat, but of course he was as cool as a cucumber due to air con. Our car just blows warm air, I tend to forget other people travel in modern luxury ๐Ÿ˜ฅ My best ever car for hot weather was a 2cv, it certainly got a good breeze with the hood rolled back!

martha79 · 13/08/2026 21:23

Hello again @HannahDefoesSpringFling

Gentle refrigerated hugs to you @MewithME

I had another (planned) visit from a friend this evening - nearly cancelled because it was so hot but glad I didn't. Had a good chat, iced matcha and sandwiches delivered by Starbucks for tea, and then built a little side table I'd had delivered. She's also taken some empty cardboard boxes off my hands which is very helpful.

In bed now but it's way too warm ๐Ÿฅต

TodayIsabetterone · 13/08/2026 21:26

Talking of air con in the car, we got a more modern car last year and Iโ€™m amazed at how fabulous the air con is every single time I go in it. I did wonder why DH was so keen to pop out for the odd thing we needed on a sweltering day! Then even more bemused that he sat on the drive for quite some time on his phone as it was much cooler than the house! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Yes it makes such a difference! When DH was working we regularly had new cars as a business expense but now he's buying his own it's economy all the way ๐Ÿ˜‰ Our current car was that mythical "only used by a little old lady to go to church" and it's such low mileage it looks like it'll last forever!

I am hoping to start driving again one day and would love an electric car next, some of them are so cute.

TeaAndStrumpets · 13/08/2026 21:44

@martha79 what a lovely friend!

You're well loved just now, I am so pleased.

I have a question for you....! I realised today that I have no idea what matcha is! ๐Ÿ˜‚

With the current trend for pistachio and having a nut allergy...I think my brain just did green = nope!

I do feel much better for seeing people - realised I've not seen anyone in person other than delivery men so far this month! Obviously I now need a long wind-down and am still awake...

Matcha is green tea powder - some taste better than others, I quite like the strong almost bitter stuff but also some of the more sweet concoctions made with it. Some places seem to use a green syrupy thing instead of powder and that's generally not so nice.

FuzzyPuffling · 14/08/2026 08:22

We went out to watch the fireworks championships last night...and i actually got a bit chilly!! It was lovely.

What are you up to today if you have a chronic illness ๐Ÿงต10! Summer Edition ๐ŸŒž
Oioiqueen · 14/08/2026 08:33

I've never tried Matcha I think the idea of drinking grass grosses me out haha!

Meant to be 31 today, I'll rake that over the 38 we had yesterday. Having to keep opening and closing our windows due to a fire that broke out yesterday in our nearest town. Initially the wind wasn't in our direction but keep getting strong whiffs of it now and hazy skies. Off to take the kids to a country park that has woods โค๏ธ today with a friend so should feel cooler than I have done recently.

I've had no idea it's green tea! I will swerve it then....green tea tastes like bitter grass to me ๐Ÿคญ

Having a late first coffee of the day. Slept late as I've not been sleeping well this week....I'm sure lots of us haven't.

Trying to unwind today and not go through my mental to do list. DS back a bit later... hoping this afternoon and not lunchtime really. Really want a bit of time to myself.

Enjoy the woods @Oioiqueen . Trees are a nice place to be when it's hot out. I'm too tired to leave the house. Seem to have bad neuropathic foot pain lately. Wondering if that is heat related. It's a new symptom anyway.

@FuzzyPuffling wow. What a sight! Glad you enjoyed yourself.

That's stunning @FuzzyPuffling

Hope you can unwind a bit @MewithME

Sorry you've had smoke @Oioiqueen - there were two fires here yesterday within the city, one in some woods I used to regularly go running and walking in.

Been awake since before 6am despite not getting to sleep until after 1am. Have put together some storage units (just plastic drawer things) and am about to do my Breathe class, then I have no other plans except awaiting the Ocado van - which one will it be today?!

MewithME · 14/08/2026 10:30

So many fires ๐Ÿ˜ž

Looking forward to 'normal' weather again but makes me nervous about the future.

TeaAndStrumpets · 14/08/2026 10:37

Morning all!

Oh the relief after last night. I was so hot I got up for an hour at 1am, DH like a furnace beside me! It's cosy in winter but hopeless in summer.

I was going to order yet more Wham boxes, which I always buy 6 at a time from Amazon. I realised they were so much cheaper locally, so DH has been sent off to The Range. Their 45 litre boxes are on offer 3 for ยฃ15, normally ยฃ7.50 + for one box at Tesco or Halfords.

I am such a skinflint, I spend hours shopping around for things, but even the odd 50p adds up.

DH has packed up our big light fittings, now we have single centre lights on a short wire. We only had candle bulbs so they look ludicrous! I can have my own eclipse if I switch off the wall lights ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Also I was mortified at the festoons of dust up there. They are so high up I never see them.

Hope everyone has a cooler day.
