Morning all.
Fuzzycat is feeling rather better. I think she's just too hot. She's back under our bed and dosed up on fresh catnip.

I have had a quick burst of useful energy...dusted and hoovered the sitting room and music room, cleaned the downstairs loo, sawed up a sizeable log (that I foraged on the way back from church on Sunday) and reset the tyre pressure sensor on my car. Later I have to go and feed DD2s cat...she and her DH are having a night away in St Ives, whike I look after the cat, and DD1 has her two children. I've got the better deal!

Time for a lie down.

What is this 'dusting' of which you speak? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I can't quite remember. (I am honestly blind to it .. shocking I know).

OK, quick whizz round with a damp cloth.

I think clumpy dust is the summertime version of that fluffy stuff used to make Christmas trees look snowy.

FuzzyPuffling · 11/08/2026 13:54

Good luck Today's DD.

TodayIsabetterone · 11/08/2026 14:25

Thanksโ€ฆ Sheโ€™s has to wait til 4 so thatโ€™s not helping the nerves! I canโ€™t see traffic being good at that time, weโ€™re in a tourist area in August! Still at least no school runs! What will be will be.

Ive just helped DH sort a pile full of stuff which Iโ€™m glad Iโ€™ve done but damn my shoulder hurts now even though I thought I was careful, sat down, not too much reaching/ carrying but obviously enough to set it off.

Anyway Car is full for the charity shop & tip so some progress is happening. Still waiting on GP to phone and I just know if I have a nap, heโ€™ll call!

FuzzyPuffling · 11/08/2026 14:44

Lots of traffic is not necessarily a bad thing - just (respectfully) follow the car in front!

TodayIsabetterone · 11/08/2026 16:52

Oh no! She failed again ๐Ÿ˜• Sheโ€™s not happy ๐Ÿ˜ก

Iโ€™m sorry that sheโ€™s failed again, poor daughter. Lots of cuddles and favourite food required

FuzzyPuffling · 11/08/2026 17:00

Oh no, poor girl. Dont give up.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 11/08/2026 17:04

@TodayIsabetterone so sorry. Chocolate?

TodayIsabetterone · 11/08/2026 17:22

Thanks all, I think chocolate will be definitely required! May have to send DH out ๐Ÿค” Sheโ€™ll get there, sheโ€™s just upset and frustrated right now but sheโ€™ll dust herself down and try again.

Ah sympathies. It is just a snapshot really. I stopped trying after two fails, when I restarted lessons I had the same examiner three times! After the first two when I got him again my heart just sank and I though well that's it then, but went through the motions of course. At the end he just turned to me and said "I'm sorry Mrs Strumpets but you won't be seeing me again" I was amazed!

martha79 · 11/08/2026 18:04

Aww I'm sorry @TodayIsabetterone - hope the chocolate helps, and next time is better.

danglethedingle · 11/08/2026 18:49

@TodayIsabetterone oh poor DD, I took 3 times to pass, the last one I didn't tell anyone I was taking it because I was so sure I'd fail again!

FuzzyPuffling · 11/08/2026 19:10

I'm almost ashamed to admit I passed my test first time, aged 17. No one was more surprised than me.
And then I went straight back into my geography lesson.

Ha yes after my first two failures I was so disheartened I gave up for a few years so didn't try again until I was in my late 20s!

You definitely had youth on your side @FuzzyPuffling but you are probably a natural!

danglethedingle · 11/08/2026 19:28

I was 29, I'm still scared of merging.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 11/08/2026 20:54

I passed 3rd time.
My first test the examiner walked into the waiting room. He was the spitting image of Hitler, down to being short, the moustache & glasses. I was thinking please not me, not me. Then my instructor nudged me & said go on he called you. The git asked me to read the number plate on a moped in the bike shed! It was 3pm on a Friday. He was determined to fail me.

TeaAndStrumpets · 12/08/2026 06:41

Morning all!

We're up early to do things before the temperature goes up again. A friend is coming over to help DH with some lifting, and they are also going to take down two heavy light fittings....DH was younger and fitter when he first hung them! One is suspended from a beam accessed via the attic so it will be hot work.

We have months before the move but there is so much stuff! Our dining room is filling with boxes. I'm trying to declutter as we go, but I need to keep an eye on DH. He packs like it's Jenga but totally without thought!

I have tried to stay off my feet though and the pelvic/sciatic pain has eased off a bit. Osteopath next week, so hopefully he can loosen things a bit more.

We are forecast 31ยฐ today, but it's been cool overnight.

Stay cool, everyone!

martha79 · 12/08/2026 07:14

Morning. Good luck with all the work today @TeaAndStrumpets. We're also meant to get 31 today.

I just switched off the setting on my phone that tells me about weather warnings about 12 hours before they happen and then throughout - it felt a bit stressful! Did some other phone 'cleaning' of apps etc last night and put some time limits back on as I feel like I never put it down at the moment. Having said that, I felt awful overnight and was browsing/ playing a silly game as distraction...

Not sure why I felt so rough last night (typical after having a fairly good day ๐Ÿ™„) but taking it easy today, got some work to do and will be staying indoors out of the heat.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/08/2026 07:28

Happy eclipse day to all...keep safe. My sensible DH ordered a dozen pairs of eclipse glasses in good time, so all the family have them. He likes astronomy things.
And then its the first day ( of two) of the National Fireworks Championships. All eyes to the sky today!

It does get a bit much! I have gone through my watched threads on MN as well because sometimes it's a very disturbing place. Not our thread!!

@FuzzyPuffling you are so lucky having a firework competition! I think DD1 is finding a colander for her family, she would never be organised enough to buy the glasses in time ๐Ÿ˜

Yep - I tend to come into MN via my 'watched' page rather than anywhere else, although I do stray onto 'active' sometimes and usually wish I hadn't! Just switched my work laptop on to find a bright orange weather warning widget in the toolbar - have got rid of that too.
