Is this a good enough spread do you think for 8 people? 6 adults, a 12 year old and a 7 year old

Mains
10 x drumsticks (mix of seasoned and plain)
10 x sausage
12 x burger
10 x pork belly (spicy seasoning)

Sides (all home made)
Potato salad
Mexican rice
Corn salad
Normal salad
Coleslaw
Tomato, basil and mozzarella salad

Snacks for arrival
Crisps
Popcorn

Also rolls/bread and drinks etc.

Extra stuff i could rustle up if it doesn't look like enough
Corn on the cob
Halloumi
Asparagus

Looks plenty to me maybe people likely to eat 2 sausages though?

BBQFood · 17/07/2026 10:52

Dessert

Mixed fresh berries, cream and meringue (make your own Eton mess type thing)
Cheesecake
Birthday cake

It is yes, but for the meat it’s onky enough for everyone to have one of everything, sausages for example people usually have two.

it’s plenty of food, but I’d have done less meat choice and more of each one.

I'll dig around for some extra sausages in the freezer

I’d get rid of the drumsticks because they’re a pain the arse to eat at a BBQ, and I’d add enough sausages, pork belly bites and burgers so everyone can have 2.
For chicken, I’d have done chicken, pepper and onion skewers.

shoesandshipsandsealingwax · 17/07/2026 10:55

I would do more sausages and add something sweet for dessert.

MoistVonL · 17/07/2026 10:56

I don't think you need to offer six different salads for eight people. Three or four would be plenty - one with a carb (potato or rice) one green, and one or two others.

I'm assuming no vegetarians or pescatarians are coming

i could do skewers, I'm sure i have some chicken thighs in the freezer, but my DD and DH do like a drumstick ... maybe I'll swap

I can skip the rice and the tomato and mozzarella too if it looks too much :)

Yes. There will be food left over.

I did list dessert in a second post :)

Nobody is going to eat all the ‘bits’ you’ll have loads left, but people might want more meat…it’s what a bbq is for really

middleagedandinarage · 17/07/2026 11:07

I would probably allow 2 sausages and per person and get another couple of burgers plus the other meat you have. Everything else sounds perfect.
You can always freeze whatever isn't used or will keep in the fridge for a couple of days once cooked.

They normally eat the sides.

I was born in South Africa. A braai is a big deal there, and the sides absolutely do matter. Everyone eats the sides.
Every braai I’ve ever hosted in Scotland has had loads of sides served, and they get eaten. Every time I’ve been to someone else’s, they also serve a bunch of sides.
Not sure who just eats a plate of meat and nothing else - that would be a pretty shit dinner invite.

CoastalCalm · 17/07/2026 11:52

Seems like too many sides for what my family would eat , personally I don’t eat drumsticks so I’d appreciate an extra sossidge

Daffodilsinthespring · 17/07/2026 12:15

You need a lot more sausages. I don’t eat chicken at a bbq and don’t like burgers.

GU24Mum · 17/07/2026 12:23

Definitely more sausages. Personally I’d ditch the pork belly and make some skewers but that’s just my preference.

Just as well you're not invited then 😂😂

I'd double the sausages and the drumsticks ( but then I find we eat a lot of meat in our family bbqs)

I'd also do garlic bread on the bbq ( wrapped in foil) and a yoghurt bases dip and salsa

For us that's way too many salads. I am not going yo comment on the meat choices as we simply have different preferences.
I would do just 2 salads, but put corn on cob and whole baby potatoes instead. And some toppings for the sausages and burgers like caramelised onion

squirrelchops2 · 17/07/2026 12:35

I'd sod off the potato salad and just do boiled new potatoes as they've mayo on the coleslaw

VividDeer · 17/07/2026 12:37

I would love all those salads. But its a lot
With so much choice I'd only take a spoon of each. Leftovers are great though.
