Mine is wear jeans. I have the flattest, most rectangular shaped bottom and every pair of jeans (or any trousers actually) I have ever tried on look horrendous from behind. I have found jeans that look good everywhere but when I turn around its a different story. I just could not feel confident in jeans unless I jave a long top on over the top. I would love nothing more than to just throw on a t shirt and jeans because I just love that look but it looks awful!

The second is drive anywhere beyond my few tried and tested routes. I have been driving the same few routes for years and I cannot deviate from them. When I try its like I have been punched in the face: I can't think properly, all of the signs completely overwhelm me, I become so anxious my heart hammers in my chest and I make really rash and dangerous decisions out of panic. I go into immediate flight, fright or freeze mode and it feels like I am being made to.solve a really difficult calculation while someone is hitting me around the face. When I try to push myself out of my comfort zone (and I have) it usually results in people beeping at me and me pulling over to burst into tears. My tried and tested routes are completely fine and I am safe, careful and attentive on the road.

Anyway, those are two regular, run of the mill things that I feel like I cannot do.

What are yours?

I think that the level of squats needed would be astounding. I also have unsightly hip dips too so a lot of the theory around building muscle is contradictory because some worsen the hip dips (apparently). I have resigned myself to never wearing jeans and feeling good about myself!

forget the squats and try out hip thrusts, romanian deadlifts, cable step ups

Drive
Sing in tune
Catch something thrown to me. 99% chance I'll miss.

Play the guitar have tried loads of times
Drive a car never been allowed to due to medical reasons
Be with a nice partner instead of bullies who make me cry like present one
Lose my weight not for want of trying it goes on stays on
Not have complex mental health issues due to treatment of other people
Learn to crochet again not for want of trying

Ditch the bully of a partner and the reduced stress levels will massively help your mental health issues and weight.

How will you ever find a nice partner if you stay with a horrible one?

Please start a thread so we can give you some advice.
You can literally do all of those things that you want to do but it means ditching the nasty partner first.

Never managed to get a Tampon in yet! 2DC and been married a long time !

I wish I could get a decent night's sleep without relying on medication.
I wish I could stay awake during the day without relying on caffeine

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 14/07/2026 17:13

Do front crawl arm movements, leg movements and breath. I can only do 2 of the 3 at the same time.

This time of year may a good time to get some driving practice in the very early morning hours, when the roads are quiet.

It starts to get light quite a long time before sunrise, so you could go out at about 04:15 and get an hour or two to practice before the roads begin to get busy. That might help you to get used to the layout of complicated junctions or big, scary roundabouts.

Just go for a walk anywhere i fancy. I have a crippling fear of dogs and have to carefully plan where I go to avoid them being off lead.

I live on a new build estate and can't even walk around it to go to the local shop. The number of people who have dogs off the lead on the pavement or post about a loose dog on the local group is amazing.

Would be lovely not to have this worry and just be normal!

Nofeckingway · 14/07/2026 17:18

Swim
Style my hair
Sleep at night

Obviously it won’t solve the problem but have you thought about carrying a tennis racket?

I know someone who had a fear of dogs attacking her dog and was told having a tennis racket meant she felt more prepared to block an oncoming attack.

Thank you but its not really an attack im worried about. I just have an irrational fear. Its hard to explain but the thought of one appearing behind a gate or anywhere unexpected paralyses me with fear.

Although an attack isn't my fear, its just dogs themselves, it does seem odd to me thay they are accepted everywhere despite being able to attack at any point! I wish everyone would just get a cat!

I would love to be able to sing and play the piano.

I would love to be thinner and more agile so I could go on waterslides/theme park rides without worrying that I will get stuck, not be able to get off at the end etc.

BogRollBOGOF · 14/07/2026 17:35

Wear nice shoes that complete outfits.
Because having wide, high volume feet is apparently freaky and destroys your sense of taste and fashion according to shoe manufacturers Hmm

Do the splits and a cartwheel. I am resigned to these never happening without significant injury being incurred

SpottyAlpaca · 14/07/2026 17:41

Ride a bike. I never learned as a kid, because bicycles cost money that we didn’t have (this was long before everything was made in China & cost 50p). As a young adult I didn’t get round to learning. Now I’m in my 50s and II would love to be able to ride, but I’m very well aware that my balance & co-ordination aren’t the best and I just can’t justify the risk of injury involved in learning & inevitably falling off.

Be the focus of attention/speak out loud, in a larger group setting, without going bright red.

Oh me too. I don't even feel self-conscious, but I did when I was younger, and I think my body has just hung on to that reaction, IYSWIM. Then I think about how I'm going to go red, so I go even redder...

PuppyMonkey · 14/07/2026 17:51

French plaits in my hair.

SaraHoliday · 14/07/2026 17:55

Do a cartwheel. Resigned to the fact that it's not going to happen 😂

Wear strapless or low cut dresses. I had a bilateral mastectomy 12 years ago without reconstruction. I do wear prostheses but because all the breast tissue was removed my chest is concave and anything low cut looks awful.
I don’t regret not getting recon but I do get jealous of nice boobs!

I have left breast mastectomy and I'm concave, I loved my boobs and find it sad I didn't make the most of them when I had them both x

xinser · 14/07/2026 19:04

@SpottyAlpaca seriously, if you could get a second hand bike and take the pedals off (or get someone to do this for you) you could try just scooting about and see how you feel. The balance bike method is so much gentler than the way most people learned when I was a child, with stabilisers. You gradually just glide (or totter) further and further, able to put a foot down whenever you like or need. Eventually you can add the pedals but only when you have got pretty expert at gliding along keeping your balance AND putting your feet down securely to stop. We've taught kids to ride both ways and honestly it is night and day different. I wish you'd get up the confidence to try even once, with low seat, pedals off, both feet in easy reach of the floor so there is nowhere to fall off to IYSWIM.

Or go old school and buy a trike.

Stretch, be gentle and build flexibility: expert tips on doing the splits

Doing a split may look impressive, but experts caution it should not be done without practice and it may not be for everyone

Nofeckingway · 14/07/2026 19:18

@BogRollBOGOF I really don't think not being able to cartwheel or do the splits will mar your social life one bit . Unless you hang out with circus people .

AuntieDolly · 14/07/2026 19:38

Get in and out of a kayak without making a complete arse of myself (literally once when my trousers fell down!)

TheLightOfDay · 14/07/2026 19:44

Oh there are so many things I’d be here all day. I’ve just come to realise I’m not good at much and very bad at most things 🤣 All sport, swimming, diving, singing, driving, making and keeping friends, drinking alcohol, being sociable, drinking caffeine, go a day without tripping over something or breaking a household object or losing something essential 🤣🤣

I’ve barely scratched the surface there 😆

And yet I persist. So there you go.

TheLightOfDay · 14/07/2026 19:45

Can’t do the splits either but I seem to have lots of dreams about doing it, ditto flying 😊

albalass · 14/07/2026 19:49

In no particular order -

Drive
Swim front crawl
Play a musical instrument
Speak a second language
Be able to put my point across without getting flustered
Play sports casually like tennis/badminton - I have zero hand eye coordination and can never join in as I'm so bad!

Loads of others now I think of it!
