Guess what good news I received today after giving up hope

Hello all
A lighthearted chat as i am still in shock and didnt expect this !!

I received a email today that I never expected to receive. It was good news but I had given up hope that i would ever have this 'thing' that was offered. I have waited over 10 years for this. Would anyone like to guess... I haven't won the lottery but it feels like its even better than that !!

I know this is a daft chat but I am still in shock several hours after receiving the email.

Apologies I didnt mean to offend and I totally agree with you

I'm not offended, I'm just furious that this is what the government have the cheek to offer us. It's an absolute joke.

Erm have you moved and tried to find a NHS dentist???? 5yrs and im on every waiting list within a 40 mile radius!!

Actually, I have, and travelled back to my old dentist for the past 6yrs. I only got accepted locally last week! I didn't bother making a thread about it though!

Sorry to disappoint I just can't believe I now have a NHS dentist

It’s the best. My appointments now cost £23 instead of £120. I don’t have anything wrong with my teeth so it’s just checkups. The NHS dentist wouldn’t take my husband whose teeth aren’t so great so soends £1000s with them every year…

Good for you!!! I cant get an NHS dentist, despite having veteran status and am risk of losing my front teeth from gum disease. Only diagnosed in 2022 when I was discharged, they were happy to treat me but the powers above said nope......just a number, dont give a fuck.

2differenttypesofpeople · 09/07/2026 22:41

Congratulations!

I managed to get an NHS dentist a few months ago after 4 years of waiting / ringing around. I randomly checked the NHS website every few months and luckily a few spots came up at a dentist local to me. I told my friends, one managed to get a place and another didn't.

Thankyou
It's a shame all of you couldn't get in but I guess it's limited numbers

@Fgfgfg thanks for that nhs price link. He had a white filling so perhaps it cost more but I’m going to ring up and query it because the exact amount doesn’t match any of those prices.

A couple of years ago I had a white filling to replace an old amalgam filling that had failed. The dentist told me that you only get NHS white fillings on front teeth as they don't last as well as the amalgam ones for molars. He did a white filling on my back molar privately for an extra £90 on top of the NHS fee (also had other stuff done). It still wasn't £300 though.

WearyAuldWumman · 09/07/2026 22:55

I pay Patient Plan for my dental treatment, but my dentist apparently cannot deal with my impacted wisdom tooth - it needs to be done in a hospital setting. My dentist is both private and NHS - apparently, that's sanctioned by NHS Fife, and they're allowed to send all their patients to the NHS for treatment that requires an operating theatre.

Worst case scenario, it was going to cost me more than £2k, possibly £3k to have it removed (in pieces) in a private hospital under local anaesthetic. I was referred to the NHS hospital in January and was seen in March.

I got my letter a few days ago - the wisdom tooth is coming out a fortnight tomorrow.

Lucky you OP. My guess was going to be a beach hut!

NHS dental appointment- Righto, ok then 😕

Well I haven't managed to get one for a quarter of a century, so I think it's worth celebrating even if you don't.

Wow! that is fabulous news. I had stopped even checking locally as the nearest was usually a three hour drive away.

RedRock41 · 09/07/2026 23:48

Obviously scrolled to the reveal, but however much jolly caveating there is, absolutely hate the guess threads. So annoying. Yes we can scroll on but they clog up newsfeed and just waste everyone’s time. TF other areas of life don’t work this way:

  • GP surgery: guess what day/time we can give you an appointment;
  • Supermarket: you can’t leave until you guess the price;
  • Concert: it won’t start until you guess the time lead act on;
  • Traffic Lights; guess the exact minute and second they will turn green or they stay red etc.

Might be fun for the Rumplestiltskin Miller’s daughter but by F sooo annoying for many others.

Caveat It’s hot. I’m grumpy. Views my own but not necessarily correct! 😜

A company opened two new NHS surgeries in Glenrothes town centre and they've been inundated with applications from new patients. I'm not sure how they've managed to get a full compliment of dentists, but they've done it.

New NHS dentist opens in Glenrothes - with more branches planned

It comes as thousands across Fife struggle to register with an NHS dentist.

You’ve won the lottery or you’re pregnant or you’ve had a promotion.

Google is very clever, but I don't think people generally find out they're pregnant by email...

congrats op,
ill admit thats one thing i need at some point

LeftieRightsHoarder · 10/07/2026 00:35

I was going to guess you’d won an award of some kind. But an NHS dentist is more useful!

I managed to get an NHS dentist quite easily when I moved.
Getting a hairdresser to reply to messages & get an appointment is another matter !
