Guess what good news I received today after giving up hope

Hello all
A lighthearted chat as i am still in shock and didnt expect this !!

I received a email today that I never expected to receive. It was good news but I had given up hope that i would ever have this 'thing' that was offered. I have waited over 10 years for this. Would anyone like to guess... I haven't won the lottery but it feels like its even better than that !!

I know this is a daft chat but I am still in shock several hours after receiving the email.

Jury service

imnottoofussed · 09/07/2026 21:35

Without reading the full thread I’m gonna say it’s a garden allotment

PotatoFan · 09/07/2026 21:35

An insulin pump? If T1 diabetic. Waited 17 years for mine and just had email it’s being delivered next week

My 28 years old som also got one last year in nice bit of London! Clearly some positive things going on hopefully

Hopefully yes... the email said they are working with the NHS in my area and that they were in the process of rebuilding access to the NHS but it would take at least 5 years. Hopefully more dentists will match this approach
Congrats to your son !

An allotment

Very impressed it's only taken you 10 years to get an NHS dentist OP, good stuff.

NHS dental appointment- Righto, ok then 😕

Erm have you moved and tried to find a NHS dentist???? 5yrs and im on every waiting list within a 40 mile radius!!

Noodledog · 09/07/2026 22:03

I was going to guess that you'd managed to cancel your virgin media subscription

JJWT · 09/07/2026 22:04

You have been offered a council house?

Ilikesundays · 09/07/2026 22:05

When I was 17, I was referred to an NHS dental hospital to have all my impacted wisdom teeth extracted under a general anaesthetic. Heard nothing for two years and my parents paid for me to have the op done privately. When I was married, with a baby of two, at the age of 26. the letter came with my appointment- even then, it was for almost a year ahead.

Allotment?

Sorry to disappoint I just can't believe I now have a NHS dentist

Be careful about having to rearrange any appointments.

At my dental surgery if you call up to rearrange an NHS appointment, they’ll do it 3 times before you’re scrapped from the books 😳

BlueRabbitWasNaughty · 09/07/2026 22:22

@Fgfgfg thanks for that nhs price link. He had a white filling so perhaps it cost more but I’m going to ring up and query it because the exact amount doesn’t match any of those prices.

Ironically he’s got great teeth- mine at 64 are awful!!

Negroany · 09/07/2026 22:24

I have an NHS dentist. I have zero tooth issues (well, I do have very sensitive teeth, for which they have now prescribed some toothpaste), but as I'm 58, some could arrive any time. So I go to the appointments like clockwork so I don't lose the place!

I had a health check on the NHS this week - invited out of the blue - to raise awareness of cardio vascular risk and dementia. My score was 4, it needs to be lower than 10. Yay.

Hi there
Thanks for the heads up. As I now have one i will be religiously going every 6 months or every year whichever it is. I will not be giving them any excuse to take me off the books !

London marathon ballot place

BettyJoanPerske · 09/07/2026 22:28

I'm sorry but this isn't funny or lighthearted. Considering what we pay in tax, all dentistry should be free.

Grapejam8 · 09/07/2026 22:28

Well done you!

I am in the 50s bracket have had a few removed at the back but really need to keep all the ones left
