The US is now on it's 7th night of bombing Iran, and Iran is striking back. It looks to me it another never ending war. Trump is not saying much. Seems to me he is out of ideas.

Canada needs to sweep it's forests. I wonder where he gets the billions of dollah from ? That would be interesting data to see. Because he says climate change is a hoax and the numbers are all fake. But somehow smoke crossing the border is costing the USA billions ? So what is the US spending these billions on ?

We are holding Canada responsible for the fact that they are not properly maintaining their Forests, and Brush therein, and the United States is being unnecessarily invaded by filthy, polluted, and unhealthy air, the quality of which is dangerous, and totally unacceptable! It's natural for Trump to champion Argentina, after all he promised the country a pre-election bonus $20B Treasury currency swap plus another $20B from private banks and sovereign funds as a condition to President Milei getting reelected. Which he did, as the country was in a bit of a financial crisis.
Of course the US was not interfering in another country's elections.

Yeah. Thing is, it is a commercial event. So, first amendment does not apply. Same as US posters here do not have first amendment rights here. It is up to the owners.

First amendment applies to the government. I would have thought the government understood that.

Do visitors to the US have first amendment rights. Hmmmm... yes. But not according to Trump. Remember him deporting foreign students for protesting. And this brings us to the 14th amendment. I think, and this is why I think the battle against birthright citizenship is interesting. This bit -

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.

Cos the way I read that, Trump could get around it by saying visitors are NOT subject to the jurisdiction thereof.

And that would make the US a real interesting place to visit.

Really though, it's because they have some soft support of Argentina's claims because it slots nicely with Trumps own claims re Greenland, and he likes Milei. If it was a banner on something Trump didn't like (making fun of him, protesting the Iran war etc) then we wouldn't be hearing about Free Speech.

I'm not American, so not sure about visitors, but who wouldn't be could be diplomats and their families as embassies are the same as being in the country of the embassy?

On a serious note, if I were, I would be very conscious of the inherent universalism (one hesitates to say 'catholic') nature of US law. There is nothing in the constitution that actually limits US governments and courts to the US itself. It's just been a convention thus far. Not that the constitution is relevant anymore.

I noticed they also managed to chill discussion of what Kimmel actually said. Even in the UK, I saw broadcasters pulling their punches and only referring to "something Jimmy Kimmel said" (complete with "obviously it's appalling for someone not to speak appropriately") rather than repeating it.

I've seen the Kimmel clip, which includes the Trump clip Kimmel was criticising, and I can perfectly see why Trumpies didn't want anyone noticing that slice of Trump's behaviour.

I think it is because of diplomats that the 14th says "subject to the jurisdiction". Because they were not. And even today are not.

The Constitution has always been interpreted to mean that anyone on US soil, including tourists, enjoys 1st Amendment rights. And the 1st applies everywhere, not just at specific events. This is why preachers can preach vile rhetoric from the pulpit, commentators can make inflammatory statements on the news, and people can protest and shout from street corners. There have been plenty of foreign nationals taking part in, and even leading, protests about issues they're passionate about. Trump's orders of deportation of those student leaders have been ruled unconstitutional by numerous courts. As a result some of the detained student protesters were released. For others the rulings came too late.

The 'subject to the jurisdiction thereof' is specific to the citizenship issue and is interpreted as applying to diplomatic immunity. Tourists are subject to US laws. Diplomats are not. Park in a red zone as a tourist, you'll be ticketed. As a diplomat you will not (or it'll be cancelled by the State Dept). If a tourist kills someone, they'll be tried under US law and imprisoned (or worse) here. A diplomat will be expelled and their home country will be asked to either try them there under that country's law or to extradite them to stand trial here, and they can refuse to do either. The 1st Amendment has no such 'caveats' as to whom it applies.

So theoretically, Los hinchas de España could unfurl a banner saying "Trump apesta culo de monkey" and it would be protected under the 1st. Gee, I hope I don't give them any ideas!
