A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions, or controversies here. Think of it as neighbors (I'm a Yank) chatting over the garden fence or having a cup of tea while the kids play together. Everyone is welcome.

It will be calming for all.

Looking forward to the news @MyrtleLion😊
@Mumtobabyhavochope havoc better soon, though all sounds calm and lovely in your house. Reassuring when they are eating!
Lovely autumn views @MissConductUS
My trip to London was a great success and enjoyed the concert with friends.
DS’s team won 29-0 on Saturday. First win of the season and such a step forward considering no wins for last 2 seasons and many 50-0 hammerings. The boys were thrilled!
Just watching about Aberfan. Such an awful tragedy that we think about every year in Wales.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/10/2026 23:14

Agree with you about the awful tragedy at Aberfan. 😔

Lovely and calm ebbs and flows here! 😭

We're all fed with soup now: chicken broth, barley, tomatoes, bow-tie pasta and chopped chicken. Off to my mum's vaccination appt now.

Major congratulations @MyrtleLion (although I will confess that I was tipped off already from 'knowing' you from another place under another name <clinks champagne glass>)

MissConductUS · 20/10/2026 17:44

That's fabulous news about the new job, @MyrtleLion ! 👏

We're off this afternoon to our Subaru dealer to look at the 2026 hybrid Foresters and find out what they'll give us for a trade-in on our 2020. We'll probably end up waiting for the 2027 models to come in so we have more color and trim options.

Sprouts, well done to DS's team on the win! Being winless for two seasons must have been quite depressing.

Here's what the front yard looks like with the colors changing.

Thank you everyone. It was my first day and basically read a lot of documents.

There’s a lot to do, so I can’t wait to get my teeth into the role.

MrsSPenguinz · 20/10/2026 19:38

Great news about the job @MyrtleLion congratulations and glad first day went well.

Lovely to see colours changing @MissConductUS

Lovely food @Mumtobabyhavoc

Glad you had a great time @sproutsandparsnips. I'm also watching Aberfan.

Had rest of car repair done today and car is back. I cleaned the kitchen including going through the cupboards, the fridge, cleaning the oven and deep cleaning the dishwasher and did the floors in there and the entrance hall. Cleaned the laundry room. We got the cast iron bird brackets I ordered and DH used 3 of them to put up the first oak shelf which we made from worktop we had over. I varnished the shelf.

We had to make a 200 mile motorway journey today. It rained heavily almost the entire way. It was thoroughly miserable 🌧️🌧️🌧️

Ah, thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc - absolutely fine, but just so grim with all the spray from lorries and passing traffic - not a peep of sunshine the whole way and almost continuous rain for 4 hours. Just the sort of long drive you’d rather not have to do!

MissConductUS · 21/10/2026 12:46

We went to the Subaru dealer yesterday and test-drove the Forester Hybrid. It was lovely, quieter inside than my current Forester, with better acceleration due to the electric motor. I loved it, and DH talked me into ordering the Touring model, the top trim line with all the new tech and comfort features. The front seats are ventilated, which means they have both heating and air conditioning, and even the back seats have heating.

We had to order the car, and it won't be in until sometime in December at the earliest. I'm fine with waiting, and I get the color I want (Rock River Pearl). They're giving us a very good price for the trade in and the new car as well, so I'm very pleased.

Congratulations about the job @MyrtleLion . I hope everything goes well for you. I’ve started reading your story. That stained glass looks gorgeous.

Hope Havoc is staying well @Mumtobabyhavoc and your eye has healed. Thanks for the shout out ❤️

I cuddled and fed my great nephew, which was wonderful. He was so good. I did shed a few tears after they had gone though

Today is my birthday and I’ve had a fantastic day already. I’ve had so many gorgeous presents and I must say my family and friends know me so well! Books, art, puzzles, games and Seafood Birds Nest from a fabulous Chinese Restaurant this evening.

I always think about Aberfan on my birthday every year, as both my grandads were miners, although not in Wales and the children were almost the same ages as my friends and me. It was incredibly sad.

HildaTablet · 21/10/2026 14:39

Happy Birthday lovely @Umanresources! wishing you many happy returns, and those gifts and cards look exciting 🎁💝🥳

(On a more sombre note, the Aberfan disaster is one of the first major events I really remember. It must have been wall-to-wall on every television news bulletin to cut through my then-childhood consciousness. Utterly horrendous still).

Umanresources · 21/10/2026 16:04

Thank you so much @HildaTablet It’s also the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. On the 200th anniversary my OH took me to Trafalgar Square in London. There were so many things going on there that day with displays from sailors and cadets, marching, lights and music and abseiling. It was fantastic and OH said he’d been quite busy arranging it for my birthday. 🥰. Then we went to the National Opera House where I saw my first Opera. I’d only ever seen light operas before and really wanted to see a professional one. I was not disappointed. That was one of my best birthdays ever. I’m smiling thinking about it now!

Lucky me, I’ve just had some flowers delivered. The florist took them to the wrong address at first, but recognised my name so brought them here!

MrsSPenguinz · 21/10/2026 18:10

Happy Birthday @Umanresources

Exciting to have car ordered @MissConductUS

We have been told today jacuzzi bath arriving tomorrow so have been busy sorting bathroom downstairs ready for it.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/10/2026 18:31

Total coincidence, buuuuttttt....
I love jacuzzi tubs, new cars, birthdays, lovely presents and the opera and also dislike long drives in pouring rain. Who knew? 💁‍♀️

Sunny and a gorgeous autumn morning here in Vancouver and 11c. 😎

Have already got Havoc up, fed and off to school; my mum's IV's done, but accidentally removed the injection cap when I was disconnecting the line; went to bank; hospital for replacement cap; home to fix the line; another iced latte, toast; and about to get Baby ready to go out until we have to do school pick-up.

🙂💛

MyrtleLion · 21/10/2026 20:18

All my work news is far too dramatic to repeat here, but I’m currently scrolling MN and listening to Smooth radio.

MrsSPenguinz · 22/10/2026 18:30

Hope everything is Ok @Mumtobabyhavoc you are lovely looking after a lot of people.

Jacuzzi bath arrived today and DH and I carried it in, was a bit tricky to navigate doorways as we have tight places here with it being a very old house but its in and looks fine. Need to get plumber and then electrician in to fit it. I then cleaned the floors and did the garden and DH cleared the packaging and cut up the old worktop and is putting it out in sacks alongside an old hoover for special collection by the council. It came on a pallet so having to cut that up too. Had a nice bath with Molton Brown bath foam and then a cup of tea with chocolate buttons. Getting dark outside now.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/10/2026 01:31

Baby seems to be doing quite well after a 2 hour nap, although doesn't want to eat dinner so far. Thanks, Penguins. 💛

I was just out in the garden and managed to pick tomatoes and green beans. I really would've liked to have left the tomatoes for another two days, but forecast is for over night temp of 5c and even though sun tomorrow it only looks like it will reach 14c and then rain and steadily lowering temps after that.

mathanxiety · 23/10/2026 04:19

Congratulations on your birthday, Uman, and to Myrtle on your new job.

Hope DC will recover soon, Havoc, and hope you'll avoid whatever it is.

Your new car sounds amazing, MissC. Will you need any special equipment to charge it?

Currently sitting watching the local NFL team playing well, at home (on TV). They are two scores ahead with one minute and twenty one seconds left. The last minutes of a game last a long time as the clock stops frequently.

MrsSPenguinz · 23/10/2026 20:34

Its been very wet here today but luckily just had indoor activities planned.

Collected Sainsburys order including toffee apples. Collected more shelf brackets. Cleaned laundry room and downstairs bathroom including tiles. Getting old paint off.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/10/2026 22:38

You've been busy Penguins. And mmmm toffee apples! 😋

Just got Havoc covid/flu vaccine and sitting in waiting room for the "15 mins to make sure you're okay. " Havoc is incredibly offended having had the shot, I am so upset, mummy. I didn't like that. On. Repeat.

sproutsandparsnips · 24/10/2026 09:42

Belated happy birthday @Umanresourcesglad you had a lovely day.
Does your mum have a PICC @Mumtobabyhavoc? It makes things a lot easier doesn’t it?
That sounds like a productive and very pleasant day @MrsSPenguinz. Good job everything done before the rain.
Exciting to have a new car @MissConductUS- is the colour kind of a cream?
Just waiting to hear if DS’s game will be cancelled so I can make plans for the day. I hope it is as it is very wet and windy……

MissConductUS · 24/10/2026 13:14

Happy Birthday, Uman. It sounds like you had a lovely day.

Well done getting the Jacuzzi into the house @MrsSPenguinz. You are really doing up the house these days.

Havoc, resistance to vaccination is quite understandable from a child's point of view, as they've just recently acquired the concept of bodily autonomy.

DS texted yesterday that he wouldn't be home for dinner last night, but might come to visit on Sunday. That was a bit disappointing, but I'm glad that he has other things to do than hang out with mom and dad on the weekends.

@sproutsandparsnips, the color is very hard to describe. Google AI came up with this:

River Rock Pearl is a warm, earthy gray-blue automotive paint color. It features a subdued metallic and pearlescent sheen that shifts slightly in different lighting conditions, offering a rugged, balanced look featured on models like the Subaru Forester and Subaru Outback.

The Forester we gave DD and SiL as a wedding gift in 2024 was River Rock Pearl and I have a few pictures of that car when it was new. The picture with the two cars together has DH's Impreza, which is Ice Metallic Silver, on the right.
