A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Veering way OT for a moment, if I may: I had a "Beam me up, Scotty!" moment this morning and need to get it out of my system.

I can't remember when I last got on a bus, but today for various reasons it was my only option.

The journey was uneventful until a dead ringer for David Walliams' "I'm a laydee" character got on and sat directly in front of me. The smell of sickly sweet perfume was overpowering - and wafted everywhere as this chap affectedly waved his (bright red) fan in front of his face.

The journey continued without incident until an elderly man in the seat behind me tapped my shoulder, nodded towards the fan waver and said, none too quietly in what sounded to me like a South London accent, "Thassa maaan! Look at 'is whiskas and Adam's apple."

Put on the spot and not wishing to appear rude, I turned to him and silently mouthed, "I know", at the same time noticing the other passengers quietly convulsing.

It seemed like an eternity (but was probably only minutes) that I sat in trepidation of any more comments from seat behind until the "laydee" reached his stop, glared round the bus and got off.

Never again.😱

😂

Yeah, you had me at the perfume. I'd be off and wait for the trailing bus before I was mainlining my inhaler.

I love that this old chap thought he was telling you something you didn't already know.

OH that's so funny. My DH and his cronies are old chaps. Absolutely no filters left to give 😁

Woah this is worrying news for Devon. I've only just done the petition to save the Dartmoor ponies.

Not just a massive one but the largest in Europe.

I’m clearing a house in Wiltshire which has had £5 million taken off it thanks to Limedown it is bloody wicked

One person said tongue in cheek in the comments. "NEVER, NEVER plant JAPANESE KNOTWEED or BAMBOO near Data (surveillance) centres 😉😉

Jesus wept 3000 acres of solar panels.

A company in Anglesey has withdrawn its planning to build solar farms on the island. They didn't give a reason, but we have our suspicions.

Apropos of nothing three schools with solar panels on the roof caught fire in the heatwave.

@justasking111 4.5 metres high 3.5 metres wide 27 football pitches size all over agricultural land it has divided the community like you can’t imagine. The biggest battery centre is opposite a Manor House which will be lit up all night are you joking !

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/07/2026 22:31

Apparently Burnham is doing an AMA on Reddit tomorrow!

Reminds me of the damage to communities that the HS2 abortion of compulsory purchases did

They really do want to leave a poison chalice for Eyelashes, with all these announcements.
Unless the plans is he immediately reverses them to look like a hero.

LupaMoonhowl · 03/07/2026 07:28

Would be good if we could do a Rwanda type deal to outsource prison places to another country where wages are lower (like has been done with all our call centres…)
Anyone convicted of any crime that involves any level of violence goes there and stays there until the end of whatever term they are given.

The spite of the left knows no bounds!

All they're doing is illustrating why Labour should never be in government. How are the Labour fans spinning this one as being a good move?

Yes they are leaving a poison chalice. This will start in September, so just as parliament returns after summer with a new PM at the despatch box. And some still think Starmer is "a decent man"?

Thanks for the link @Ereshkigalangcleg. Some great comments on that thread.

So true.
There is comfort in knowing that I won't see another Labour govt in my lifetime. They'll have to wait for the next generation to gaslight, who won't remember this govt.

Front page of The Times today.

Burnham told LBC: “I stick by the manifesto and the promises that it made. So, let me be absolutely clear (🙄) about that, but there is some room within that manifesto for movement on tax.”

That might be his stance today. See what he says tomorrow. 🩴

NoWordForFluffy · 03/07/2026 08:36

I wonder what movement on tax he thinks he has?

I wonder if he has a different definition of 'working people' to Reeves and Starmer? 🙄

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 03/07/2026 08:47

This is pretty obvious I realise, but I increasingly think the GM mayoral election on 30 July may be the decider on whether Burnham calls a GE soon after September.

If Labour wins - by any margin - I think he’ll see it as Reform’s weakest point since the last GE and will act. If Reform wins, especially if they win quite easily, he’ll stay his hand, IMO.

I’d be interested to know what the Green vote in GM as a whole might be, inc pro-Pal vote lenders. The Green vote in places is apparently high (Gorton result) but in others low (Makerfield). That could be v important.
