LIGHTHEARTED

Ive seen this trend going around on social media, i find MN to be a bit negative at times so wanted to ask what people are grateful for or what makes you feel lucky. Can be anything from shallow to more serious.

My DH is very forgiving, generous and he makes me laugh. We are both healthy, mobile and fully capable of pretty much everything.
Our DC are all healthy, living good independent lives and we have wonderful
GC.
We own two mortgage free properties and have a very comfortable life for which I’m eternally grateful as this allows us to travel pretty much when we like, we don’t have any financial worries and we love where we live.

BettyRubblecausestrouble · 26/06/2026 21:28

Crappy abusive start in childhood and father of children turned out to be shitty too.
BUT I have 2 beautiful and accomplished children and decent health and a now paid off mortgage! Later middle age aint looking too bad!

KeeepWalking · 26/06/2026 21:34

That DH and I have retired at the ages of 56 and 59. We've worked hard, are very cautious spenders, and spent time learning about investing. We have had an inheritance and he got voluntary redundancy, which have both helped. So grateful that we have this to now to travel and enjoy life before my parents need more care and while we are still healthy.

IPartridge · 26/06/2026 21:39

I'm single so I always get to choose what to watch on TV. And have a bed all to myself 😁

Also mortgage and debt free with a reasonable pension pot

SpottyFox · 26/06/2026 21:46

We’ve just bought a house in a tiny village which is a conservation area - lots of thatched cottages and is very pretty. We back on to farm land and get to watch the most amazing sunsets across the fields.

The villagers are so friendly. We’ve been welcomed in, invited to drinks and suppers and genuinely feel like we’ve lived here years.

We can’t get a pint of milk without getting in the car and the house is a doer upper, but we gloss over those things 😂

I sometimes think of people who are living in a war zone and feel thankful that I live somewhere really peaceful.

So glad my kids are doing well. There were a few tough periods with poor mental health etc...now I am just so glad they are happy and healthy.

saltnpepperchips · 26/06/2026 21:50

After many years of crappy relationships I decided to have a baby on my own with great support from my parents. He is 9 now and an absolute delight. I feel so lucky to have him and to be able to raise him without having to compromise with anyone or worry about custody battles in the event of a spilt. Parents having some health issues but thankfully have the funds for private treatment, mum had hip replacement privately recently. I’m not wealthy but have no debt and able to take son on holiday each year 🥰

PenelopeJoanSterling · 26/06/2026 21:50

not sure really, overall i dont think theres anything special about me, im daft and strange but i try to be kind and good mannered overall,

Bellamyhendrix · 26/06/2026 21:54

I have a beautiful family, two boys and a girl, we own two rental properties and our current home is paid off

Ricecrispiesatsix · 26/06/2026 21:55

We own 2 properties in London mortgage free but I don’t actually ever tell
anyone that so no one is jealous!

I actually have a lot to be grateful for/ jealous of: my lovely husband (my friends call him “Kind Mr Ricecrispies), my three children, my health. Being fit and strong and a fast runner! I have a really fun and meaningful job. Our home is colourful and welcoming and we have a constant stream of friends and neighbours popping round.

I am incredibly grateful for my mental health. I have a naturally joyful disposition so whatever is going on in life my default is to be happy.

FortyFacedFuckers · 26/06/2026 21:56

My son, he’s just been an absolute joy for the last 20 years, I am truly blessed to have him and he’s grown into such a lovely young man, so kind, hardworking, funny & handsome.

That I'm pregnant right now! First baby and I'm so excited 💛

Been very lucky and the pregnancy has gone so well so far. I've just felt very content and happy the last few months (hope it lasts!)

WyrdHag · 26/06/2026 22:04

I was chatting with a couple of colleagues at a social thing last night. All in our fifties - one married to the father of her 3 kids, me and the other both single mums to young adult daughters.
Married colleague asked other colleague if she enjoyed being single and she said no, which really surprised married colleague as she said to me 'I know you love it and sometimes you make it sound like a much better option...'

So I guess my freedom.

I also have a really great relationship with my daughter and at the age of 50 I still have my mum - we drive each other nuts and are like chalk and cheese but we always have one another's backs.

We have a lovely, stable, happy family life with some challenges, but lots of laughter. It’s nothing out of the ordinary but it feels amazing.

Something several people have mentioned to me is that I have a lot of energy and that they wish they had the same. It would be hard to believe if you caught me this afternoon, napping in the sun on my sofa, but I do love going to new places, trying new things, meeting new people and just (as my mum says) ‘eating life all up.’ I very rarely find life boring and when I do, I find a hundred new things to do.

Everyone makes mistakes, we’re only human. It’s about what you learn from it and the choices you make going forward. No point dwelling on the past you can’t change it.

Not lighthearted, very seriously something that I am very, very grateful for is that all my pregnancies and babies have been healthy and I have never struggled with fertility. I've seen the pain friends and family who haven't had that experience have gone through. Including still birth and SIDs, it's heartbreaking.

JohnBullshit · 26/06/2026 22:15

I have great friends and amazing hair. But most of all, I have a cooler for my chocolates, so that I never have to choose between breaking my teeth when they're straight out of the fridge, or dripping melted chocolate all over my chops. Not even in this weather.

GingerBeverage · 26/06/2026 22:17

I sleep well in the heat.

thats very true points, well until some ever does develop a time machine, and the only reason i say that is aeroplanes how many years when people wanted flight or flying to be possible etc

Alsosa · 26/06/2026 22:18

That the temperature outside hasn’t been above 19c in my very northern home 😅

Feels cringey but it’s always a thing I’m incredibly grateful for and other people have mentioned to me about being jealous of, i have a very loving wonderful husband in many ways, but the big one people have commented on is he always supported my dreams/aspirations sometimes even when I’m ready to give up on my inability in something, he will still believe and be my biggest cheerleader, if I woke up at 3am and said I have a burning desire to become a cacti farmer or something, he would be starting to build the greenhouse in the morning and researching how to help me become the best one.

Oh now I can cope with everything else on this thread but the chocolate cooler has tipped me over the very edge. Grin
