Re standing up to Trump. Why didn't Merz do it but will Burnham?

He keeps repeating that his father was born in Germany in spite of being corrected several times by various media.

Trump met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on March 3 in the Oval Office. They were speaking about the United Kingdom's response to the war in Iran, which Trump criticized before talking about his heritage.
"I love that country. I love it. My mother was born there," he said, referencing Scotland, which is part of the UK. "My father was born.." Trump said, gesturing to Merz, before trailing off with saying, "he knows all about my father. My father was born there."
Trump has referred to his father as German in the past, though Fred Trump was born in New York.
"My father was born in Germany," Trump said at a July 2025 bilateral meeting with Starmer...

Trump also said in 2019 that his father was "born in a very wonderful place in Germany."

Keeping away from the obvious Nazi comparison, the image itself seems to be based on an Ai design with all it mistakes.

On Bald eagles, does it really have to be mentioned that Trumps removal of environmental protections are doing them no good ?

Sure I recall Merkel trying not to snigger when Trump ran the German family connections past her - maybe it was all those memes of Merkel and Macron whispering though.

For F sake :-)

On this Starmer/Burnham thing, I remembered a TRUTH that fits rather well so went for a wee hunt. And as is always gonna happen, I came across another claim from the TURD that should blow everybody's mind. June 26 2026

"For all of those who like to say that Barack Hussein Obama, and his Vice President, Sleepy Joe Biden, did as many Criminal ICE removals as President Trump, the figures are just in. Number One, they included hundreds of thousands of people that never came close to getting into our Country, a difference of perhaps 50% in the numbers. We don't include such categories but, even if we did, ICE and CBP removed many more Illegal Aliens under President Trump than under Obama -- It's not even close! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP"

So, after all this time Trump has finally managed to do more removals than Biden and Obama ?

And what's this, Trump claims they added 100s of thousands of people who were not in the country? How does that even work ? He Claims 50% of the people they removed were where ? In Mexico? Is that his claim.

And why does he not link the data ? I had a look, and there is nowt I can find.

Perhaps he’s referring to border control - if under Biden/Obama more visas were refused? I have no idea if this is the case - of course - but if it were then to my mind it just would mean that Trump has lost control of his borders and lets anyone in for ICE to get nasty with later.

I honestly don't know. Because I could not find news that backed his claim. Likely my web of course, but there was nothing on the WH website. ( Ohh my eyes).

Will Burnham wear a tie in the Oval office and get berated if he doesn't??!!

I suspect part of the Andy Burnham schtick will be "Donald who ?"

PerkingFaintly · 30/06/2026 11:41

I will say that I hope that the UK position now shifts to facing up to Trump and staring him down.

This has already happened: Starmer faced up to Trump and stared him down over using UK bases to start the Iran war.

That's why Trump went nuts attacking him. All that "not Churchill" stuff and the end of the bromance.

I think some parts of the press would prefer us to forget exactly why it was that Trump turned on Starmer.Hmm

Not sure why; perhaps to protect Farage or Badenoch, given they came out hard in support of Trump's attack on Iran but public opinion went the other way. (And as @DuncinToffee says, at least Badenoch has now U-turned.)

We can agree or disagree on whether we're happy allowing the US to use UK bases for "proportionate military defensive measures" against Iran's retaliatory attacks on other Gulf states and Cyprus, now the war has been started.

But Starmer made no bones of standing up to the Trump administration when he felt the occasion demanded – and didn't back down when they started with the name-calling.

I hope one of them dies and it becomes a commemoration of Biden instead; that would seriously upset Trump.

It's also emerging (didn't seem common knowledge) that Starmer backed the BBC to resist Trump.

Which seems to be paying dividends. He is now frantically trying to back out of the case and trying to pressure the DoJ to help him. Educated guesses are that while he himself is safe from any criminal revelations, his entourage are most certainly not.

Taking the wider view, it's likely that as his term comes to an end, and the prospect of him avoiding all consequences (who would not believe he was suffering from some mental disease ?), those around him will realise they may well be left carrying the can. The smarter ones will already have twigged that if he feels safe from reprisals, he can safely dump them in it.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/06/2026 12:01

Which means that we will be left with the smarter ones getting away with it, as usual, I suppose.

RedTagAlan · 30/06/2026 14:26

Found it. Re Starmer, Burnham or Badenoch. I will leave Farage out.

Monday, June 29, 2026 10:27 AM Truth Social

"Do you think people appreciate what a fantastic job we did in building and operating the Great American State Fair at the National Mall, packed with happy people, and everybody loving it? Ask yourself this simple question, "DO YOU THINK THAT OBUMA OR SLEEPY JOE BIDEN COULD HAVE DONE IT?" THE ANSWER IS NO!"

His caps.

So, leaving Farage out, If the UK had a similar sort of event, would it matter who was PM at the time. Apart from Farage.

And yeah. Just imagine if it was Obama or Biden. Or Harris. What an event that would be. The organisers would have to turn down A listers cos the schedule would be so full.

Hell, even Kid Rock would want to perform.

@RedTagAlan

You know, if the US could make fertilizer out of all the shit coming out of Scrotus' mouth, we'd never have to worry about a shortage ever again. Add in the shit coming out of Kegsbreath's, Spkr Johnson's, and K Patel's mouths and we could supply the world at pennies per tonne and still make a profit!

Breaking news per CNN TV. Birthright citizenship upheld by SCOTUS. EO invalidated. CNN has the order, but haven't reviewed it so details unknown.

The outcome is thus:

5–4 that the Constitution protects birthright citizenship for the children of all immigrants.

6–3 that Trump's order is unlawful (because Kavanaugh says it violates a statute, NOT the 14th Amendment.) https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25pdf/25-365_4hdj.pdf

“If you zoom in on the guitarist’s sunglasses you can see a crowd of less than a dozen people… the organizers appear to have recently deleted that image.” 😬 🕶️

If it were not that the band agreed to perform for Trump I would feel really sorry for them: they probably got all excited by the hype, and playing to a crowd that small is horrible and humiliating.

As it is, though, I merely hope they insisted on payment in advance.

Looks like CNN's 1st report of 7-2 was wrong then. It was 6-3 affirming.

this is the breakdown of who affirmed, who dissented.

You betcha! In a way I'm looking forward to it. His rants have been going on so long, are so stupid, and the SPAG are so bad that they are somewhat amusing.

I guess in a way I'm like the parent of a tantrumming child. Eventually, the tantrums lose their power to upset and just cause a sigh and an eye roll. The difference is that you can remove the child from where they're tantrumming, but we can't remove Scrotus from SM.

Just to keep the hopes up;

The 2026 midterm elections will take place on November 3, 2026 (127 days from today) . The next presidential inauguration is scheduled for January 20, 2029 (938 days from today)

Seems congress is allowed to legislate to update the intent of the constitution, according to Kavanaugh

Let's see that applied to the second amendment then. Or do Americans really hate their kids ?
