I love Verona. One of my favourite cities in Europe

a visit to the opera on warm summer's evening cannot be beaten

Fighting talk!

Not a particularly pretty city but we ended up in Bradford one year for 3 weeks and had a great time. I started a thread about it that went on for pages, but it's a very interesting place and I'd love to visit again.

The architecture in Bradford city centre is incredible, the Waterstones bookshop in the old wool exchange is probably the most beautiful bookshop in the world. My DD(10) and I jump on the train to head to the amazing fountains in Centenary Square on a hot summer’s day.

Agreed. I literally cannot stand Bath although I know that I should. It gives me really horrible vibes, like the dementors have sucked out my bone marrow. Also, I could not believe that you had to pay to get into the only nice grassed area in the city centre.

I wouldn't go that far but there's something eerie about the place.
Most places have their own vibe.

I don't like Bristol. The nice bits are terrific but most of it is horrible.

Cockermouth, Cumbria.
Port Isaac, Cornwall.

I feel like that about Malvern. Lots of people love it and it is indeed a lovely place, but it gives me the heebie-jeebies.

@AndrewMountbattenWindsor I've not been in what way is most of it horrible

Hoping for a couple of days away at some point this year, so this is a good thread for me 👍🏻

LondonLass2026 · 21/06/2026 16:46

Harrogate
York
Mid Devon
And Castle Combe! Amazing place.

Buscobel · 21/06/2026 16:48

I loved Cambridge on my one and only visit. I’d like to go there again too.
Winchester is lovely.
We live between Chichester and Arundel, so I can go to either. Canterbury, I mentioned before. It felt like a much bigger version of Chichester.
I used to like York and Chester many years ago. Haven’t been for ages.

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 21/06/2026 16:49

Oxford.

Portmore · 21/06/2026 16:51

Rye in East Sussex. Stunning town close to the beach at Camber and only an hour on the train from London.

I can see why you said St Andrews. Full of English students, easy to think it has moved country

it's a very lovely small town in Scotland with fabulous beaches and great wee shops

Nodirectionhome · 21/06/2026 17:41

Hebden Bridge. Can't live there unfortunately; but glad I live close enough to visit often.

Bananadramatic · 21/06/2026 17:42

London

Surprised by all the love for Canterbury- there are some very pretty bits but so much deprivation.

claretblue79 · 21/06/2026 17:43

Scunthorpe. Brilliant little theatre, nice parks and arts centre. And home of the mighty iron!

igelkott2026 · 21/06/2026 17:43

I'm always surprised so many people love St Andrews. Ruins and a golf course. So many other better places in Scotland to love!
