Come, friendly bombs, and fall on Slough
It isn't fit for humans now,
There isn't grass to graze a cow
Swarm over, Death!

Come, bombs, and blow to smithereens
Those air-conditioned, bright canteens,
Tinned fruit, tinned meat, tinned milk, tinned beans
Tinned minds, tinned breath.

Mess up the mess they call a town —
A house for ninety-seven down
And once a week for half-a-crown
For twenty years,

And get that man with double chin
Who'll always cheat and always win,
Who washes his repulsive skin
In women's tears,

And smash his desk of polished oak
And smash his hands so used to stroke
And stop his boring dirty joke
And make him yell.

But spare the bald young clerks who add
The profits of the stinking cad;
It's not their fault that they are mad,
They've tasted Hell.

It's not their fault they do not know
The birdsong from the radio,
It's not their fault they often go
To Maidenhead

And talk of sports and makes of cars
In various bogus Tudor bars
And daren't look up and see the stars
But belch instead.

In labour-saving homes, with care
Their wives frizz out peroxide hair
And dry it in synthetic air
And paint their nails.

Come, friendly bombs, and fall on Slough
To get it ready for the plough.
The cabbages are coming now;
The earth exhales.

Nah, on a sunny day it’s nice !

TheChosenTwo · 20/06/2026 23:07

Portmerion in wales, just had a horrible sense of foreboding behind the creepy colourful empty facades of the building. No idea what draws people back for return visits, it creeped the hell out of me.

Violinorbanjo · 20/06/2026 23:08

may I ask why Ilfracombe? We visit for a holiday and I have never seen anything specifically odd apart a massive pregnant lady

BettyBooDoingtheDoo · 20/06/2026 23:08

Drove through Jaywick once. Felt like we were in a seaside version of Deliverance. Nasty 😬

Shakeitall · 20/06/2026 23:09

Isle of Sheppey (for work), couldn’t get back across the bridge fast enough. It felt like deprivation from the 1970s.

Falmouth.

What was it about Oban? We were there a couple of years ago and stayed in a lovely B&B and had an amazing seafood meal.

I think those are both quite nice, possibly I have low standards 😂

Waitingfordoggo · 20/06/2026 23:09

Basildon. Just felt a bit sad and depressing with not much going for it. That was some years ago though, maybe it’s improved since.

I really like Oban. It's a lot nicer than Fort William.

MrsMoastyToasty · 20/06/2026 23:10

Gloucester is pretty grim.
@Ricecrispiesatsix Pilning used to be OK, what's happened?

Right! That’s what I felt too. You’ve put your finger on it

TheExtraGuineaPig · 20/06/2026 23:10

I’m surprised at Bedford, isn’t it just ordinary? Although I have a quite irrational dislike of East Grinstead.

Brighton is... odd. I do like it but it has a weird undertone.

Idoloveaparsnip · 20/06/2026 23:10

Arbroath, Scotland

Ehupflower · 20/06/2026 23:10

Great Yarmouth

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/06/2026 23:11

In the last few years I’ve found York and Chester centres very disappointing. Don’t get the appeal.

BellaBobandBernietoo · 20/06/2026 23:11

We went to Blackpool back in 1996, stayed one night and drove all the way back home the next day, what a dive.

Also it pains me to say Great Yarmouth, we used to holiday there as kids and it was lovely. Lovely is no longer a word I'd describe for that shit hole.

I live near Jaywick and that's somewhere I do not recommend either unless you are partial to living in a shack, bully XL dogs and cannabis.

Isn’t East Grinstead the cult religion capital of the U.K.?

pepayfelix · 20/06/2026 23:11

Southampton. Truly depressing in large parts.
