Great Yarmouth. Apparently it used to be a nice seaside town but I went there two years ago and it is a sad, unnerving dump. Saying that, I found a sweet little cafe run by a family from somewhere in Europe (not sure whether they were from Romania or Bulgaria), and a decent chip shop. I'd booked a night in a B&B so I stayed, but the next day I couldn't get out of there fast enough 😱

I know this isn't in the same league as shit run down cities, but... Scafell Pike. We went in from Wasdale Head and I just got such a terrible sense of foreboding, I put up with it for about an hour then I had to leave. It just felt... malevolent? I've never felt like that outside of nightmares before. As soon as we got on the road again I started to feel better.

How do you put up with a mountain for an hour when it takes at least 3hrs to reach the top?…. Did you spend an hour at the top?

Raccoonsmacaroons · Yesterday 22:56

Blackpool for me, absolute shithole (sorry!)

7catsisnotenough · Yesterday 22:57

Blackpool without a doubt 😞

DefiantRabbit9 · Yesterday 22:57

Luton, nuke it from orbit just to be sure.

Jemimapuddleduk · Yesterday 22:58

Blackpool.

CoffeeAndCakeBringMeJoy · Yesterday 22:58

Blackpool; I enjoyed the Tower/Pleasure Beach as a child, but the town is now quite an unnerving place. The one exception is going to the Winter Gardens to see a show/concert, but the town itself makes me feel very uncomfortable.

SqueakyFromme · Yesterday 22:58

Blackpool is winning so far

I didn't say we got to the top? Mountains have sides before you get to the top bit. We spent an hour on it, including time to turn back.

Ohhhh who was Dawn Breaks ? That’s carry on girls isn’t it with the donkey and the itching powder at the Miss Fircombe contest ! 🤣

In the 1973 British comedy film Carry On Girls, Dawn Brakes is a highly memorable character played by the glamorous actress and model Margaret Nolan. Dawn is one of the busty, silver bikini-clad beauty contest contestants causing chaos at the seaside resort of Fircombe. My name is Dawn and Dawn Breaks was just a daft nickname people gave me! I aren't busty or glamorous!

Tunbridge Wells. Just didn’t like it and everyone seemed so unfriendly.

GoldThumb · Yesterday 22:59

Not sure where the town was, but we’re driving from Essex to Stanstead airport, and went through/past a small village, and never felt anything like it before. Just felt really oppressive. Then it had these little dummies everywhere, dressed up as random police officer/kid in a football kit. Presumably for traffic to slow down, but just felt so creepy, was getting total wicker man vibes

I had a pretty disappointing trip to Derby, in no hurry to go back.

I was born in Morecambe. My dad says they prop dead people up at the bus stops so it looks busier to tourists 😂it's a common local joke 😂

Lifeomars · Yesterday 23:00

Mansfield, quite near to where I live and it is like going back in time and not in a good way. I have only had to go there for work reasons and it is just grim

SqueakyFromme · Yesterday 23:00

@DawnBreaks brilliant ! I love that film, is that the one with Charles Hawtrey in the silky scarf/neckerchief ? I haven’t seen it for ‘donkeys’ years

Slough. Been through or to it many times and it has a reputation for a reason.

Ooh oh oh

Doublebubblegum · Yesterday 23:01

Bournemouth. I went in the middle of summer. The centre was rammed full of crowds of people and the atmosphere felt intimidating - like it was just on the cusp of everything kicking off.

For me, Blackpool is just sad - the levels of deprivation are just so visible and it feels like a town well past it's prime. But Bournemouth felt edgy in all the wrong ways to me.

CocSoc · Yesterday 22:52

Creepy in what way?

Well its right there on the bay where those cocklepickers drowned, so you've got this beautiful mournful view and this treacherous grey beach. Then the town itself is full of these crumbling blackened buildings, it felt like everything was sort of leaking or dripping, and then to top ot all off you've got these abandoned tearooms and arcade shops, plus loads of crackheads

But wasdale has many mountains… pillar and yew barrow on one side, lingmell before you get to scafell pike. Scafell to the right. You said you got to Wasdale and turned back.

In2mindsss · Yesterday 23:03

Derby is quite close to me and it used to be ok. Went there recently after a gap of many years and I was shocked at how run down it had become. So many places are like that now sadly
